Hakone Checkpoint

Beautiful lake, water is so clean it reflects everything, shrine on lake was interesting to see especially due to the hundreds of people there queing up for photos.

Recommend to take sun glasses at every time of the year due to sun reflection on water it becomes painful after awhile.

It’s not only good at architecture but also the view of landscape. After taking some steps, traveler can have a great view of mountain Fuji. Highly recommend.

Great area to check out, so much nice veiws.
Recommend you catching the boat and checking out the ares for a day.
Plenty of nature to see.

If it’s a sunny day, pls take a boat ride with first class seats. It’s really worth it to sit on the front row to enjoy the view. Must go place.

It’s a nice place to learn the historical importance of the checkpoint in hakone. There should be a great view of lake ashi and mt Fuji but when I came here it was fogging and I can’t see anything. I still really like walking through the museums and exhibits.

The view is absolutely amazing, especially for 500y. Worth the watch !!!

Important checkpoint worth visiting - there are written explanations in English and you'll also get a pamphlet in English when you buy a ticket. Do go up the steep steps to get a fantastic view of the lake.

Great day out with great views of Fuji-san. The museum provides quite good info about Japan during Edo period.

We went here on a rainy day in spring. So it was rather cold. But still worth the visit.
The recreated scenes and architecture gave a glimpse of the past. It also reminded of most things that seem to remain in their culture to this date.
The views from view point were amazing. It was worth the climb even on a windy/rainy day with low visibility.
The museum was also a great experience.
Wish I had more time available to visit this on a day with better weather.

It's a nice place to know about that period of time when people used to travel from Kyoto to Tokyo and this place was used as a check post. The best part of this place is that you will get an excellent view of Mount Fuji from there. Just sit and enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from there.

Very enjoyable the boat ride was pleasant then the coffee and matcha cake were very nice lots of motorcycle overall good.

I'm glad I didn't listen to the reviews. The checkpoint museum does have all the displays in Japanese but it's pretty obvious what each display represents. It is worth the 400 yen entrance fee for the view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from the top of the hill.

An interesting place to visit when you travel to Hakone. There are some parking nearby and it is easily accessed via ferry.

Beautiful exhibition and excellent restoration of old buildings. One feels like back in the old times where Hakone was used as a checkpoint for travelers to and from Edo. The area in general is very enjoyable to walk around as well! Absolutely recommended.

Restored and maintained checkpoint from the Edo period. Here the traffic between Kyoto and Tokyo was inspected for contraband, snuggling, etc. . There are the stations and equipment one would expect to find with this type of place, and there have even been statues of people at the time taking the place where the real people may have done their work. You can get an idea for how serious the Japanese government at the time took the movement of people of goods. There are many beautiful vantage points all around. My only minor complaint is the museum of artifacts at the end had almost nothing in the way of English guidance, so it was a short walk through that part.

Worth the entrance fee if you don't mind the steps up the hill. Lots of interesting scenes and historical information "behind the scenes". An amazing view from the lookout

Very beautiful spot and nice day trip from Tokyo. There's a lot of good shops to eat at but as a warning, they're all closed right after lunch until dinner. We arrived around 3pm and couldn't find even a coffee shop to sit down at.

It's nice but because the bad weather they canceled half of attractions that's was included at CV our tickets and no refund for it. But it's very beautiful side see of lake Ashi. Ropeway ride was nice.
