What a gem!the staff were amazing, a great way to experience a Ryokun. The Onsens were great and the food was on another level. It is well located to get to local attractions, and the hotel will drop off and pick up from the bus / train stations. Would return here if we came back 👍👍👍

If there was one thing my family and I really wanted to do while visiting Japan, it would be staying in a traditional ryokan. We had all decided that we could book one when we were in Hakone as there seemed to be a good variety of choices to choose from since they're known for their hot springs, and people flock here cause of that. We did have a couple of stipulations though as some of us have tattoos that aren't easily able to be covered and others weren't quite down for the idea of bathing traditionally with others. Luckily, we found out that this establishment checked all the boxes for all of us!

When we had arrived at Miyanoshita Station, a shuttle was already waiting for us, so that was much appreciated! We were welcomed warmly and quickly by one of the hostesses and were led to a tea room so that she could explain what we were to expect and what other activities we could do in the ryokan. This included a zen room where they had about 5-6 massage chairs available to relax in, a room specifically to take photos in, and of course the star of the event - the private onsens! There are public onsens available for both genders, but to enter the private ones, you will have to book in advance. After that, we were led to our suite and given clean nemakis to change into. Just a tip for those visiting, don't pack toiletries as they provide those for you as well.

From here, we were basically left to our own devices until dinner, so we all decided to check out the public onsens before heading to the private ones we booked earlier. The space was clean and tidy, with a separate room for you to change into and out of your garments before the wash room/bath house. Keep in mind that the public onsens are indoors, while the private ones are outdoors. It was such an amazing experience, and we all loved it! So relaxing and just an out of this world experience. Definitely a must if you're in Japan!

The dinner that is included with your stay at the ryokan was nothing short of amazing and delicious as well! It was about an 11 course meal and def filled us all up. They will also give you an option on your main course just in case you aren't up to par with the suggested dish. Every dish was beautifully made, and you could tell the amount of time and effort put into each one with the way it was arranged.

If you have time to come out to Hakone, you NEED to book here!

Stayed here a couple nights. The rooms were clean and cozy. Yes, room wifi is spotty but it's usable for basic browsing. The private springs and in room bath were relaxing. Getting off an economy airplane seat and walking nonstop days prior made these springs a godsend. The massage chairs on the 2nd Floor are great, especially after a soak. The meals were visually delightful and quite delicious. The staff was helpful and accommodating from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. The young lady(sorry, I did not get your name) who served our meals was wonderful. I would definitely come back again, especially during colder weather.

Loved staying at this Ryokan! Stayed here just one night. The staff was super sweet, the meals were delicious, and the hot springs were wonderful. One of the greeter teased me about calling them a few times which was a surprise but totally endearing. Also loved our room. Would def stay again.

Notes from other reviews about a slight language barrier and outdated facilities are accurate but in my opinion these don't get in the way.

Beautiful traditional ryokan in Hakone. We really enjoyed our stay. We had our dinner and breakfast served in our room. And they prepared our bed on the tatami floor. This is a great experience for the kids. We also enjoyed the hot spring. If you are ever in Hakone, stay at Musashino Bekkan.

This was an excellent place. The baths are lovely and clean. Since the ryokan is located on the mountain, the baths are all situated on different floors along the side of the hill. There are two private baths you can book half hour timeslots, and gender-separated public baths that are open for you to visit whenever. Service was excellent; we were waited on by Yoshizu-san who was extremely cordial and just a joy to talk to, even with the language barrier. Most of the staff speak only Japanese but with Google Translate and lots of gestures, we got on just fine. Some of the lobby staff speak English so you won't be stranded. English menus and signs are all available. Their gift shop was lovely and OMG THE FOOD. SO MUCH FOOD. They serve you breakfast and dinner and you do not need lunch at all. The dishes were all unique, very Japanese, richly flavored, and perfectly made. Our room overlooked Mount Hakone and a lovely bamboo forest. The only warning I would give is that, since you're in the mountains with outdoor baths, be careful of the various insects that you might encounter. The ryokan itself is lovely and clean, but bugs around the outdoor baths cannot be helped. I had a bad cold arriving and with two days of bathing I literally felt revived. The ryokan also provides alternative diet options if you don't eat raw fish, usually meat dishes that are still as delicious. They also provide a shuttle from Miyanoshita station which I highly recommend, as the ryokan is some distance away from its nearest bus stop. Getting there on the bullet train and local trains was so easy. Please visit this ryokan!! I'll definitely be going again!

From the way they treat you to the food they serve, what you get at Musashino Bekkan is a true authentic ryokan experience.

This means that yes, you will have to sleep on the floor on a map and eat true Japanese food, not westernized versions of it like California rolls or pasta.

Getting to the ryokan is confusing if you do not have a vehicle. They did email us beforehand asking us if we needed a shuttle from one of the stations. Since we rented a vehicle at Odawara Station we did not need it. I highly recommend renting a vehicle if you are visiting Hakone. It will allow you to go sightseeing at your own pace. There is plenty to do in Hakone as well including the Open Air museum, the overhead cable cars, Ashi Lake, Hakone Shrine, the boat tour, etc etc.

Anyways, the food was amazing. The attention to detail with each dish served was extraordinary. They were like little pieces of art that we got to admire and then enjoy. They were authentic and we felt more enlightened about what Japanese cuisine is truly like afterwards.

Sleeping on the floor was surprisingly not bad. The mattresses were quite comfy! They will set the beds and clean it up in the morning for you and then serve you breakfast.

The staff here is extremely sweet except for an embarrassing moment we had figuring out how to put on the bath robe. You should watch a video to avoid any cultural embarrassment.

The onsens are an amazing experience. There are 5 areas. Two smaller private ones that you get 30 minutes reserved for yourself. You have to pick - we recommend the one on the first floor as it is a lot more intimate and the water does not smell like chlorine. In the mornings they are open from about 6-10:30 AM. We woke up early the next day to try the one on the second floor. Nobody was there and we had it to ourselves.

The fourth floor has 3 onsens. One for men, one for women, and one coed for families.

On the last day we it was raining and we did not have an umbrella. The attendant gave us one free of charge and walked us out to our vehicle.

We stayed at Grand suite of "toki no shizuku". It was a wonderful experience. The view from the outdoor bath in a private room is amazingly wonderful. The hospitality of the staff is also the best. The food is also delicious.

Locations is little far from hakone-yumoto. But you may call for settle. Room was clean and big. Little pricy and if you are not used to Japanese foods you might want more spicies. Their service was greater than any other place.
