After my tour, Yuki showed me the next few places I ought to check up for my very short day trip here and even kept the place open after opening hours so I could get some personalised postcards made!

Friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to offer help for queries about Beppu. Highly recommended to get the value-for-money 2days Kamenoi Bus Pass for unlimited Kamenoi Bus rides to explore many places (Jigoku Onsen Park, Beppu Ropeway & Mount Tsurimi, Kijima Kogen, Yufuin) if staying in town for 2 days or more.

I bought the 2 days city pass for one day to yufuin and the ropeway. One day for the hell of Beppu and other places.

Make sure you get the time schedule of the buses. Because the bus frequency especially to hell of Beppu is only like one every 40-60mins intervals. So make sure you study first

Tourist information is in front of station, you can buy bus tickets to Meguri Hell.

Great for bicycle rentals too! I had a couple of hours while waiting to board the Sunflower Ferry so conveniently grabbed a bike from Wander Compass and got sightseeing in Beppu. The rental was quick and easy and the cost for the electric bike was only 500jpy more than the luggage lockers and Wander Compass stored my bags! The Staff are friendly and helpful so don't be shy.

It's simply the best tourist info hub I've ever been to in Japan. This is my 4th trip to Japan and I've visited a lot of tourist info centers. The staff are, informative, helpful, cheerful. Everything is so well organised. Thank you for all the help! 👍👍👍👍

I had a very great and wonderful time in Beppu thanks to the staff at the Wander Compass Beppu Tourist center. They were informative and provided a free guided in Beppu. I recommend stopping by the center when u visit Beppu

I can highly recommend!!! So friendly and helpful. We came 3 days in a row for tips like bus schedules/ where to eat/ what to do and beside that just for some lovely chats. So willing to help no matter how or for what. They were just happy to have us there. You guys are amazing. Hopefully I can come back to Beppu one day and say hi to you again ❤ So much love!

The team of Wander Compass is really great!
They have a variety of tourist information leaflets for sightseeing in and around Beppu.
You can store your luggage for 500 yen per piece (we did so until we could check-in to our hotel).
We also purchased the "Monkey Marine Ticket" there, which includes the Umitamago Aquarium, the Takasakiyama Monkey Park as well as the bus ride there and back.
They did also help us with bus routes and schedules.
Everyone we met at Wander Compass spoke english and was really nice and supportive.
Made our stay at Beppu a great experience.

Timo and Mayu were incredibly friendly and helpful. Both were very interested in us and our preferences for activities and ways to relax. Using this information they gave us really great recommendations and helped us make the most of our time in Beppu. We even stayed an additional day! What brought us to Beppu were the onsens and Timo taught us how to make the emoji with our hands (see pic). The facility itself was well-organized and had TONS of information for the area. Make time to stop by when you get off the train at Beppu Station. You won’t be disappointed!

The best tourist information centre in Kyushu so far on our trip. The staff who helped us spoke perfect English and is very very helpful and knowledgable. She recommended the day bus pass and hells pass for 3000Y total pp, which is the best deal and most people get this one (October 2023).

We walked enquiring about local rental car companies. A very helpful staff member walked us to a nearby store and helped interpret for us. We wouldn't have been able to do it without her.

Got absolutely fantastic recommendations and directions here everything was explained, all the buses marked and times explained. They even had vouchers for the hotspring baths.

Got recommended some fantastic pudding. Honestly couldn't have planned the day better.

Tomomi-san (Timo) and crew are amazing and you owe it to yourself to drop by! We stopped in with a general plan to visit some of Beppu's famed onsen. They directed us towards their onsen expert who gently probed our preferences like an onsen sommelier and then created an amazing list of places to visit.

We returned the next day with the first page of our onsen passports completed and Tomomi-san was so excited for us!

We told her that we wanted to get our onsen passports certified but were worried that might miss our bus to Fukuoka. She said "Follow me" like the protagonist in an action movie and swept out the door with us in her wake. She then led us on a 12-minute power walk through markets, narrow alleyways, and side streets until we arrived at the onsen passport building. She used her Japanese and fluent English to get our onsen passports expedited, immortalized it all with a celebratory photo, and then made sure we caught our bus with minutes to spare. 10/10 experience, highly recommended.

Both Ren and Nicole were of great help, explaining the buses and routes to 7 hells, providing maps, bus stop locations and schedules. Their English was excellent as they told us about the passes and entry tickets they sold us. A wonderful experience. Thank you

I have been to many information offices during my travels in Japan but the one in Beppu is by far the best and in particular the person I had the good fortune to work with - Pami, who was knowledgeable, friendly, thorough and simply a delightful person to work with for my time in Beppu. Wander Compass Beppu tourist information center is the best in the world. Staff there are informative, helpful, knowledgeable, cheerful, and friendly. They are passionate about helping you and service from the heart no matter what questions, queries, and difficulties. They made calls for us to make reservations for bus and taxi. They spoke excellent English. We bought 2 days pass, with maps and information, we had a wonderful experience in Beppu. Highly recommend tourists to visit this center and meet these awesome, kind, and professional staff, especially Yuriko. I love you all

This is by far the best travel information center I have ever seen. The people there are so helpful and kind. We just asked for which bus to take and got a discount voucher for our trip to monkey mountain and they checked the real-time bus location within seconds to give us the most precise information for our trip. It felt like they really cared for us to have a good trip. This information offers everything you need to know for onsen, hiking routes, buses, etc. They also sell the one day bus pass tickets there. They speak really good English, so communication was very easy.
The second time we got there we had more time and got even more travel recommendations and they made a call for us to make a reservation.

Beppu is a wonderful place to visit. It is beautiful and the people are nice. The Wander Compass staff are also very kind, informative, and helpful. I accidentally left my souvenirs in their office and they had patiently assisted me and kindly sent the package to Tokyo for me. I had such a great experience.
