HAKONE ONSEN GUESTHOUSE TSUTAYA

I booked this place last minute and did not expect much, given I booked for the dormitory, but I was pleasantly surprised. This place has a fabulous outdoor onsen which I was able to enjoy by myself each time, it boasts an excellent kitchen with all the facilities and equipment needed to cook a nice meal, and the lounge area is beautiful. Great place to meet other travellers, and has almost a cafe kind of vibe.

The staff are lovely, and they keep the place in immaculate condition. The lounge area also has many games and books for you to enjoy.

This is what a great hostel should be like, and I would highly recommend to any solo travellers.

Very friendly staff (good English), capsule were rather big and there was a nice common room. There were an outdoor and indoor onsen, both very nice. Good location: the bus stop was 1' by foot away. Would recommend to stay there at least a night!

The bed itself is pretty wide. The onsen is decent. As for showering, they have all you will need, including conditioner and body lotion.

As for the service, the front desk was very friendly helped me carry my hand carry and also tried to speak English, but I told him he can speak Japanese and he looked relieved haha.

We got lost using Google Maps, but a lady at the guest house reception helped us find our way. Her help showed how great this place is. We loved the location and the staff were really friendly. We'll definitely stay here again next time.

👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 this onsen guest house is incredible value and made of a truly delightful, relaxing stays in Hakone. The setting is lovely - in a quiet, small town and easily connected to other towns in the regions by bus. The guesthouse itself is meticulously maintained and has a cozy, hip vibe. It’s kitchen and lounge is stocked with everything you’d need (eg, loose leaf teas, coffee, cookware, books, games, etc). The onsen itself is amazing and they provide an excellent, comprehensive selection of bath products in the communal showers. It was hard to leave and kinda ruined other hostels in Japan for me 🙁

Beautiful guesthouse with a very cozy lounge space with library, kotatsu and full communal kitchen. Outdoor and indoor onsen open in mornings and afternoon. Highly recommended staying at least two nights as you'll want plenty of time to relax in the baths.

This might have been the best place I've stayed at on my trip. It's not the fanciest, it's not the most convenient, but it's incredibly relaxing. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, even organizing things like making onigiri for dinner. The outdoor onsen is lovely but doesn't have a shower attached. Also, the only showers in the entire building are in the indoor onsen but once you realise this, it's no big deal.

Ultimately, I will 100% be back.

Not exactly the best location but I would definitely choose this over the majority of other hotels, this place is clean, affordable and comfortable. Great for families as well as backpackers.

There was very clean and cozy place.
Room is more big than I taught.
Onsen is clean and peaceful. You can relax.
But The location is little far to the bus station,train station.

The guesthouse is just superb 🤩. I stayed 2 nights in the dorm. There were wooden capsules which were super cozy and it smelled like being in the forest. There are 2 indoor and 2 outdoor onsen (men and women separated). The common area is awesome with much focus on little details. It is like a paradise. There is a fully equipped kitchen which can be used. Water, coffee and tea are for free. Would recommend this place to everyone!

Staff was very friendly and speaks good english.
It's a great place to stay to visit hakone, bus station is very close. The onsen is very nice too and not packed around the late hours. Would definitly come back. The mix dormitory is nice and calm. People are respectful and keep the bathrooms clean. Wifi is good and available everywhere in the lounge and rooms.
Mangas are available, and some are in english! (Jjk)

Very beautiful location. We had a big room with a balcony and the beds are great. Normally I'm not a 'shared bathroom' person, but the toilets were very clean and modern. I really liked the outdoor onsen. It was very peaceful and I would recommend this guest house to others!

Onsen is great and it’s right next to the bus stop so easy access to the main attractions in Hakone.

The best guesthouse in Hakone. I don't know where to start, the staff are very helpful and polite, rooms are so cleans, beds are comportable and I fell in love the main area. In addition, besides its good design, I loved the window overlooking the forest and the lighting of the guesthouse. And again, both indoor and outdoor Onsen overlooking the forest took away all my tiredness. Thank you so much for your best service!

Hands down the best hostel I’ve ever been! 🤗

- the best part is their onsen — indoor and outdoor. It’s just a little troublesome to dress up again to switch from indoor and outdoor bath coz they are in separate areas.
- it’s conveniently located just a few steps away from a bus stop
- not in the middle of nowhere — there are restaurants and convenience stores nearby
- service is really nice and they could speak English well
- rooms were very clean and comfy (I was in the mixed dorm)
- their toilets were big and clean with complete amenities
- the common area is so functional and the facilities are too pretty to use
- the design of the whole place is amazing and mesmerizing — it felt magical!
- I felt that the PRICE was cheap for the whole experience. Super worth it! 💜

My sister and I had a lovely experience here during our stay in Hakone. It's a bit tough to get to as it's on the side of a hill but very well worth it. Very clean and aesthetic. It has a full sized kitchen with every utensil one could think off and a beautiful common room to start off and wind down after a long day. We stayed in the capsule rooms and found it quite spacious and quiet. It is also very well heated inside.

It was our first experience at an onsen but we really enjoyed using both their indoor and outdoor onsen! Most of the time we had the onsen to ourselves which was great. Bathrooms and change rooms were also really clean and there are coin laundry facilities in them.

The receptionists are super lovely and extremely helpful. Upon checkout, one of the men helped us carry our luggage up the stairs. I also lost my glasses during my stay and it was found only after I'd checked out and moved on to our next stop. They kindly went above and beyond to send my glasses to my next accommodation! I'm eternally grateful for that.

10/10 would recommend to my friends and family! Hope to visit them again soon on my next holiday to Japan! :)

Wow!! What a wonderful place. I couldn't fault it. Lovely traditional Japanese room with futons. Both indoor and outdoor onsens available. Toilets are shared, one available per floor. Onsens are seperated by gender, but hardly busy so each time I went, I had the onsen to myself or with one other person. Nice lounge area with kitchen facilities and kotatsu. 7-eleven just down the road for food, but restaurants and cafes in the area too.

The service was so lovely as well. The lady at the front desk (sorry we didn't get her name) was so friendly and spoke really good English!!!

Hakone is a lovely day trip as well to see Mt. Fuji, it was cloudy when we went but it was still fun and we loved owakudani!

A very flexible set up with nice common lounge and kitchen and fantastic onsen. Great shops and places to visit in the area as well as a river walk through the area. Would be perfect for families as well as corporate retreats since the whole place can be rented for 150,000 yen (at this writing). Regular private rooms (3) and capsule space is available. Excellent place to stay when exploring Hakone.

This place is amazing. I have Rarely seen such good taste in interior decoration in a hostel. There is a beautiful common room with both tatami mats and cozy tables and chairs. A modern kitchen with free coffee and free tea is also included. Everything seems very new which is probably because it has been renovated recently. The staff is extremely friendly. There are inside and outside Onsen. The place is close to a seven eleven and some simple restaurants nearby.
