Really nice onsen experience. They had 3 private onsens along with 2 public ones. The onsens all are outdoors and it was a very nice relaxing experience after a long day’s walk. The rooms were also spacious and traditional Japanese style - had a very comfortable stay
Only downside is that there is not too many food options around Gora area at night however.

Hot spring experience was absolutely amazing. Having your own personal, outdoor bath was luxury. You can enjoy staying in the bath for hours. The public outdoor baths were cool, but the water in the hose to rinse yourself is extremely cold.

First and foremost, this ryokan is a little outdated, as if it peaked in the 90's. My travel agency booked two nights including meals (vegetarian which had to be requested in advance). There is nothing I can say about the ryokan except for the layout. It can be confusing and the front desk needs to better direct guests to the moon building. My room had all that I needed with the outdoor bath. It was glorious taking a bath in the morning or evening. The onsen was nice too - I appreciate the warm water of one bath. I have no tolerance for the 44 degree celsius water. I prefer the privacy of the private bath tub but also the experience of the onsen. The meals themselves were insanely proportioned and tasty. My dishes included unseasoned tofu and lots of mushrooms but that's to be expected. I never finished the meals because there was so much food. The ryokan is located within 5 minutes of a cable train station but the town is sleepy and there isn't much to do. That shouldn't be a problem since there are attractions and activities a few train stops away. Oh, the one complaint I do have: the in-room massage is done on the bed. It's unusual. I thought there would be a portable massage table. The massage was fine but would've been more comfortable had it been done on a massage table. Overall, 4.5 stars. It's not Park Hyatt quality nor is it a highway motel. For what it is, a large ryokan in a remote (ish) location, it has everything you need and then some.

We loved our Ryokan experience! The location is a major plus as it’s literally 2mins away from the station!

Checkin was smooth and all the information you need like maps, facilties use and timings are given as a flyer in english so you are well aware on the layout of the hotel and also the freebies (and there were many!) included in your stay.

The private onsen in our room was glorious! We enjoyed it as a couple and you have privacy! But definitely enjoy the public baths too (segregated by gender) as it’s a lovely cultural experience! So many freebies like snacks, late night ramen, fresh coffee and tea, ice cream and probiotics drinks outside the bath house!

Definitely a place to go back to when in Hakone!

Stunning mountain resort with Onsen spa.
A perfect base for exploring lake Ashi, mt Hakone and environs, set beside Gora train station.
The hotel restaurant serves shabu-shabu alongside kaiseki cuisine. It is breathtaking, although many of the dishes contain a strong fish dashi which some may find off-putting. Breakfast is also kaiseki, and leans heavily into fish.
The main event is the Onsen: hot pools, cool pools, and carbonated communal pools. Private heated pools are extremely popular, you will have to wait for late night or early morning in order to secure one. Some rooms have their own bath on their balcony.
It feels like a fantasy world, or a religious retreat. Guests are offered yukata and casual robes which are comfortable dress for walking around the hotel. The sublime decor conveys the cultured history of the region, with walls covered in art.
A fabulous experience, well worth the price.

The food is very great if you like traditional Japanese food. The hotel is very close to the train station. It takes only 5 minutes walk. The number of private spring booths is only 3.

Has option for Onsen which is public onsen and private onsen in the room. There are free drinking yogurt and ice-cream services in front of public Onsen. The food is not strong flavor. There is a little souvenir shop with many cute and yummy snacks. Overall is Excellent!

The hotel is quite big with multiple Onsen (private ones, public, etc). The rooms are very beautiful, and feature a bathtub on the balcony. The food as great and the location is easily accessible, I had a great stay!

We loved our stay! The rooms were so spacious and cozy. The onsen was fantastic and the highlight of our stay. The meals were very large and decent - though I think I would have skipped the set meals to try local restaurants. The staff were all very nice and tried their best to help us foreigners.

We came to Gora for the first time to experience onsen in Japan during winter, and stayed in this hotel for 2 nights.
Everything that the hotel provided exceed my expectations; the welcoming service, traditional meal, spacious room, and outdoor in the nature private onsen experience really capped off our trip.
We also noticed that most of the guests stayed in the hotel are from local. This shows that our onsen experience are as authentic as it get.

My partner and I just finished a 4 night stay and had an excellent experience. We were a little nervous after reading some reviews but it was unfounded because the staff although they spoke limited English (some spoke English very well) they were so lovely and helpful. Housekeeping did a fantastic job and the dinner and breakfast experience is next level. My partner is a vegetarian and was fully catered for and fussed over. The onsen offered are private (3 to chose from but you sometimes have to wait a short time) or the gender seperated onsen. We soon got the hang of wearing traditional Yukata for meals and wandering around the hotel which was lovely. The location of the Ryokan in Gora, is 2 minutes from the charming train station where the cable car is also located which connects to the Ropeway gondalas that take you to Lake Ashi. The surroundings are stunning.
For a true Japanese experience I highly recommend staying here. It requires willingness to join and understand Japanese culture but is well worth it. Outstanding. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for your patience and service.

Very lovely place. Beautiful views, comfortable rooms and killer hot springs. The breakfast and dinner were incredible, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, and would try their best to communicate and assist you!

For the hot springs, there were one same sex public ones, a unisex public one, and 3 private ones available to choose from. I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy the public one when there weren't many people around, and the atmosphere and facilities were beautiful and clean and very enjoyable.
The private hot springs are also very nice but incredibly popular at night, with all of them occupied most of the time! I was only able to enter one early in the morning at 5am!

As for the rooms, the one I stayed in had an incredible view of the mountains and an outdoor bath to go along with the view. The room was also very cozy!

Lastly, the food. They are top notch and very enjoyable. Rivalling high class Japanese food I have tried!

A hefty price for a stay, but definitely worth it for a getaway, and very close to other attractions around the mountains. Definitely come if you can!

This place is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. With some added confidence the desk boy could pick up all the chicks he wants.
The rooms are amazing. The balcony bathtub fits two people easily, and that is mostly why you should visit this hotel. Yesterday I woke up to take a bath on the balcony. Later in the day I soaked in the lovely private onsen they have in the garden. I ended the day floating in our balcony bathtub again.
The traditional breakfast is another story. They use the best and freshest ingredients they can get to make unidentifiable food that has the consistency of something prior digested. And what do we do with the rice? There is nothing to eat the rice with. You can escape this 'rice with soy sauce' ordeal by getting pizza in the place across the street. I heard the vegetable pizza is great!

Amazing location and food. 3 private onsen, one main public and a carbonated public onsen will make your stay relaxed. My favorite thing was free chilled drinks and ice pops after being cooked by the onsen.

It is situated on-top of a beautiful mountain and is surrounded by many shops and stores. The rooms were very nice and comes with a hot spring like bathtub. There are many ammenities, including food as well. Dinner comes with a room, and is a delicious Japanese traditional course meal. Breakfasts is included as well, and is a traditional rice set. Overall, it was am excellent experience.
