The church can be seen in 10-15 minutes and is free to enter with seating inside. The big reason to go is that it’s one of the oldest churches in Rome and has beautiful mosaics from the late 13th century.

What a wonder to visit one of the oldest churches in Rome! We also happened to be at the evening of the centuries old Festa do Noantri. “The origins of this popular festival date to 1535 when a group of local fisherman discovered a wooden statue of the Madonna at the mouth of the river Tiber during a storm.”

“The colourful procession will begin at 18.00 from the church of S. Agata, filing towards the church of S. Crisogono, where the statue will stay for nine days before returning by boat in the "Fiumarola" procession down the river Tiber at around 19.00 on Sunday 30 July.” What a spectacle to see and it is also accompanied by fireworks!

What magnificent design and architecture there is inside the church! I definitely recommend a visit when you’re in Trastevere. Pictures do not do it justice! Please remember though that this is a religious place and they usually require you to cover knees and shoulders.

Beautiful Church in between the famous streets of Trastevere. It has ancient pillars of Antiquity, Tombs of some popes, artistic altar and you can see lot of devotees visiting here.

Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful 🤩.

The Basilica was probably the first official place of Christian worship in Rome. The church is notable for its use of classical Roman architectural forms. The 22 columns in the nave were appropriated from ancient ruins. The straight beam, or architrave, resting over the columns evokes classical Roman construction.

There are a number of 12th and late 13th-century mosaics in the basilica. The "Coronation of the Virgin" sits atop an apse vault. Below are mosaics of the "Life of the Virgin" by Pietro Cavallini.

The ceiling painting is Assumption of the Virgin.

There are a lot more to see in this basilica. You just have to find them out by yourself.

One of my fiance and I's favorite places in Trastevere. If you get to the square early enough, you can watch the sun come up over the basilica... Beautiful!

Basilica Santa Maria is one of the oldest church in the city of Rome. It has also one of the oldest fountain in Rome outside in the piazza. If you want to pray and have more spiritual visit to a church, come here. Less tourist coming here so you will have more time to pray without being disturb by lots of visitors.
The interior is majestic with all those numerous granite columns. The ceiling of the basilica is so beautiful and is comparable to all other churches in Rome.
It is open for everyone who wants to visit, the church pews are very well made.
Outside in the courtyard, with it’s fountain is so marvelous. That very square is very busy at night for it is a big gathering place in Trastevere.

Another significant church in Rome. Entrance is free, though you can pay for a more extended tour, at certain times. This is a function church, so there are services on a regular schedule through the week. The interior is decorated with amazing art and architecture. Not as busy with tourists as other churches in the city, but still popular. The piazza outside the church gives way to any area that becomes busy at night. All in all, a must see if visiting this area in Rome.

Another example of a church with a simple exterior and a fantastic interior of such dramatic colours. Don’t miss the Stuart family crest (Bonny Prince Charles) on the right of the altar above the side chapel. Then find the Latin inscription and place for when Jesus was born oil spurted.

Small and beautiful church in Trastevere. We love it so much that we went 3 days in a road. Because all the restaurants around are really good to eat. And don’t forget to get gelato at the piazza too. 😉

The main church in the center of the Trastevere area. Very beautiful place, with stunning artwork inside (like so many other places in Rome). Definitely worth a visit when walking around Trastevere.

Stunning inlay work on the flooring and lovely intricate ceiling. It wasn’t too crowded even thought I went on a Sunday. Worth seeing for sure

This church has many architectural features that are unique. The columns are from Roman ruins, and are mismatched, but come together to make a beautiful setting. The tops and bottoms of the columns are of different sizes and designs. Some of them have pagan symbols still showing on the top. The copper ceiling has a mural of Mary painted on it. The church is very large, but by far from the largest in Rome. From the outside, it’s hard to tell just how big it is. In the entryway, there are many engraved stones that came from the tombs of the catacombs. They have early Christian writings on them.

We missed the mass! Please update Google maps to reflect start time on Sunday is : 9:30 am ( not 10:00 ). The next mass after is at 11:00!
Stunning church founded in the very early days of the faith, ~ 200 AD. It has been redone and rebuilt quite a bit, mostly from old Roman bits and pieces. Interior is beautiful. The floor is covered with amazing tile work.
FYI- I don't advise giving the women begging at the front anything. 2 days in a row I see them disregarding the church, plopping their "cane" on the holy water basin and plugging in their up to date smart phone to watch videos. It's absurd. Give to a worthy charity instead!

One of the oldest churches in Rome. The basic floor plan and wall structure of the church date from the 340s, though much of the current building is from the 1140s during the Romanesque period.

The interior has extensive mosaics from the 12-13th century. The Baroque coffered ceiling was added in 1617.

The basilica of our Lady in Trastevere is a real piece of art. You can spend hours in observing and appreciating the ceiling (check the photos). I spent an hour in this basilica and will go back again during my next visit to the eternal city of Rome. The surroundings are full of charm. This is one of the most charming areas in Rome. A lot of great restaurants!
