Family owned restaurant with special treatment for each client, which is very rare for Roman restaurants. The food was really tasty, authentic and diverse. Can’t recommend it enough! Rome needs more restaurants like this one!

Su e Giù literally means up and down in Italian. This cute little restaurant in a quiet Italian neighborhood near the Vatican has 3 levels, though my favorite is upstairs. If you get there early enough ask for the table upstairs that overlooks the main dining floor.

Daniel, the owner, is warm and welcoming to all that visit. I have been going to this restaurant for years because Daniel is so friendly, and the food is great. His wife makes all the dishes and is equally as warm and friendly as her husband.

The food can best be described as home cooking, delicious home cooking - the kind of meals grandma would make.

The toasted bread with sun dried tomatoes is good but the real star is the sausage that is served with this appetizer. Honestly, it does not look like much when it arrives, but this sausage is soaked in wine for a minimum of 1 hour. It is absolutely delicious, cut into small pieces and eaten with the bread and sun-dried tomato. A true surprise!

Their soups are hearty and homey and served piping hot for those of us that think that the hotter the soup the better it is. For my main meal I just wanted simple pasta, so Daniel brought me spaghetti with red sauce topped with fresh basil. It was just the right amount and perfect with some of their grated parmesan cheese.

The house wine is not fancy, but it just seems to work well with every choice.

I cannot help but give a 5-star rating.

The only thing better than the food and the atmosphere (which were both excellent) was the service.

The owner carefully walked us through the menu and suggested items based on what were in season and which types of pasta were made fresh today. It is a family owned and run place and they clearly put a lot of love into it!

Everything turned out delicious! We were so full but convinced ourselves to get dessert too and the homemade ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. Truly a special experience!

Side note: The prices were great. About 10 to 15 Euro per main. I was with a group of 4, got multiple apps, mains, desserts, and a liter of the house wine for less than 100 Euro.

This is my go to restaurant when in Roma, because it is not far from the area in which I visit, but also it is very delicious!! I remember visiting Su e Gui years ago and learned that the restaurant is a family owned restaurant. The staff is always very efficient, friendly, and always provide a great service. The main area is pretty tight to sit in (small dining area), but the downstairs area is a bit more spacious with about 4-5 extra tables. Upon opening you can expect the restaurant to already be pretty full so definitely have a back up plan. I have ordered many dishes here, but my go to is typically the seafood risotto because I am never disappointed. The ingredients are very fresh, the entree is hot (fresh out of the kitchen) and pleasantly presented.

Incredible food. I spoke with the waiter and he mentioned that the restaurant is family run. I visited Rome last year and was severely underwhelmed by the overhyped restaurants that were boosted by online food reviewers. When I visited this year I came to Su e Giu because it was conveniently located near my hotel. Little did I know I would be having one of the best plates of pasta I've ever had in my life. I highly recommend anything that is tomato based as well as the tiramisu.

Very small but charming restaurant in the center of Rome! The food was delicious, especially the pasta Cacio & Pepe, which is very simple but not everyone can make it! I highly recommend this restaurant! Also thank you to Ricardo for his hospitality!

This place is owned and operated by the family and they make amazing home-cooked meals. If you’re tired of all the tourist restaurants, then come to Su e Giu for a uniquely different experience. Cozy, quiet and with a personal touch from the owner - Daniel. If you want a real taste of the local food, this is the best place to try it. You will find dishes that no other restaurant serves - like the fried sage (personal favourite).

This was a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint! This was an authentic experience with a mom and pop shop feel. We ordered their home made brochette with sun dried tomatoes plus the clam pasta and bucatini! This was probably the best pasta I’ve had in my entire life! It’s a very popular spot among the locals and we just got lucky to happen upon an open table. We just walked in but I would try to make a reservation. You won’t regret it! For a real authentic and top tier Italian experience this is a MUST SEE!

Wonderful meal. Great with allergies despite language barrier. Had great recommendations. The atmosphere feels small even though the restaurant spans three floors, and our server was amazing, humming along to the music and creating just a really good vibe. Food was excellent! Had the oxtail and fettuccine porcini

We had an amazing meal, stellar service and just a great time here. The restaurant is cozy and unassuming. The owner waited on us and recommended local dishes we probably wouldn't have ordered. Everything is fresh and homemade, including the pasta. We shared our selections and enjoyed everything we had. Prices are fare and we weren't rushed at all. Definitely recommend.

What a wonderful experience! My girlfriend and I dined here for dinner and it has to be one of the best places to eat in Rome. A friend of ours recommended that we try it and I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Firstly, the prices are incredibly reasonable. Second, the food is fantastic. I suggest their Suppli classico and the artichoke hearts (chefs kiss) for starters. Then try one of their ravioli dishes. Third, the staff is incredible and friendly. They know a good amount of English and can brighten up your day. It wasn't overly crowded and the staff were willing to create a custom table for us if need be. So if you're looking for a place to eat dinner and want to avoid the crowds come here!

I’ve had the best carbonara pasta here in Rome!! And the oxtail stew was so tender and delicious. Prices were very reasonable and with good portions. Service was great, Richard was attentive to all his customers and made you feel welcome. I’d definitely return to this restaurant again and again !

Family owned restaurant. We were a group of 4, didn't make reservations, came here on a Saturday night around 8pm. Riccardo accommodated us outside seatings! Lovely gentleman, very friendly!
We ordered fried zucchini & grilled porcini mushroom served with bruschetta.
Delicious pasta, al dente cooked to perfection!
Riccardo also brought us a small treat afterwards. House made ciambelline al vino (wine cookies)

My daughter and I stopped by for a late dinner about an hour before the posted closing time and were greeted warmly by the owner. We are vegetarian and he brought out the most delicious dishes for us. The artichokes and fried sage were amazing, as was the pasta. This place is a hidden gem in the Prati neighborhood one must try for sure! We look forward to visiting again the next time we are in Rome. Thank you, Riccardo!

Worth the visit. Owner was such a great soul, he was the highlight. We ordered everything he recommended, we didn’t regret it one bit. I personally recommend the home made strawberry ice cream.

Daniel welcomed us into his family restaurant with open arms and treated us as one of his own! It was an incredible experience with some of the most incredible food we’ve had on our First day in Rome! The atmosphere was very intimate and sincere, the food was absolutely terrific. Everything Daniel suggested was quite perfect and me and my family really enjoyed our time!

Spotted this restaurant on google whilst looking for a place for dinner. Arrived around 8pm without a reservation, so only option was for our party of 4 to sit inside.
Service was fantastic, bettered only by the food, and there were so many ways to customise the menu options. Having the owner talk us through what was local, traditional, speciality etc, really made the difference,. Everything was truly great, good sized portions, flavoursome, perfect!
Infact it was so good we reserved a table for tomorrow night!

Amazing homemade food. Welcoming, cosy restaurant, not rushed. We visited as a family of four, two adults, two children 11 and 8, they absolutely loved it as much as we did. The girls want to go back tomorrow!
