Massimo's Al 39 Restaurant

Massimo's was our first diner during our stay in Rome and if I can be honest, it was the best place we ate in the whole trip.

We were quickly taken to a 2p table and it also didn't take long to have our orders taken. I picked a Margerita Pizza and my wife asked for a Lasagna. To drink, I got a Peroni (the smaller option).

Again, the food came really quick and the taste was marvelous. My wife's lasagna was amazing. Its meat tasted like beef, like a minced fresh beef, not your usual frozen ground meat. My pizza was the best I had in Rome. The only pizza that could be called a "true Roman-style pizza". Not the crispy, thin pizzas that they serve in other nearby restaurants. This one fulfills you in both quantity and quality.

The check came fast too, meaning, the whole service was straight to the point: no unnecessary small talk, no delays, no nothing. Just a pleasant place to eat when you're hungry, looking for something tasteful but in a reasonable portion as well. Lastly, the price was surprisingly positive, given the food quality and the restaurant's location. In the following days, I've paid more money for worse food.

Went to the restaurant following recommendation from the hotel staff. The place was nearby and has great atmosphere making you feel very relaxed and comfortable. The food was amazing and portion was great. Had pizza and pasta. The pizza was very filling and it can be shared by two people easily. The dessert selection was great too and really enjoyed their tiramisu.

Lovely little place!
I went with my husband and 2 children (15 and 9)
Great menu, something for everyone! Which is good when with children.
The garlic bread starter was beautiful, The carbonara was delicious - very tasty, the pizzas were lovely and very big portion, the only criticism would be the meatballs and pasta, it was a bit of a let down but still edible!
The prices were very reasonable!
The restaurant itself is lovely, it was quiet when we first arrived but became busy and it was clear it was a popular place.
Would definitely visit again!

Such great gastronomic experience. Pizza Romana (pinsa) is very rich in texture and flavour. The waiters were so nice, polite and kind. For those who enjoy layers of flavour, this place is a must visit.

Delicious food, quick service and a very nice cellar-type atmosphere! The spaghetti with mussels was particularly good. We'll be coming back!

Excellent , pizza delicious and large you could share it for sure. Atmosphere is beautiful. Reservations a good idea .

Great little restaurant with tasty, traditional food. We spent 3 out of 4 nights dining there, only because we didn’t realise what a gem we have next to our hotel. Would definitely come back for more if I could. Staff is friendly and helpful, but not pushy so you can just relax and enjoy this amazing food. Grazie mille!

Best carbonara in Rome

We went here on our last night but wished we'd gone sooner because we would have returned. Pizzas and pasta were lovely and the waiter was friendly. Very cosy and good value for money. Just wish we could have gone again.

Fresh and tasty food with very friendly staff. They speak a little English so it was simple to communicate! The atmosphere was like a traditional trattoria which was great for a dinner in Rome.

A authentic Italian restaurant, good service, good atmosphere! The guys working there was super kind and friendly, the food worth the price! Not too expensive but a fair price, we got a good carbonara and a primavera pizza super recommended, just the arancini and the others starters was not so good frozen inside but it is 9/10 I mean.

It was just an really amazing experience eating there. The restaurant seemed completely booked out but they still somehow gave us a table. The food was served in only a few minutes even though as I said there were a lot of people. The food was so delicious. I never liked tomatoes but chose to take an option with a lot of them in it. Somehow they kind of changed my mind about tomatoes to the better. My friend and I each bought a juice and a pizza (me: Rukola, ham My friend: just ham). Together it costed 28,50€ and both of us were filled with delicious food and good mood. Thank you for this experience. I really recommend people to go there, if they don’t know where to eat good Italian food.

The 4 of us all agreed this was the best food we have had while in Rome... as in we should have just eaten here every night. The ribs are cooked perfectly and the meat falls off the bone. The spaghetti arriabiata was spicy but not too hot. Pnicci was great too. Prices are just right and servings are healthy size! Thanks for a great dinner.

A very nice restaurant at 100 meters from our hotel with very friendly people, and so good Italian food that I want to taste everything on the menu.
The chardonnay wine, also from Italy, was very good. I have paid much more for wines not even close to this one.
If you are looking for great Italian food you should visit this restaurant.

Delicious, fresh and tasty food. If you're looking for a traditional trattoria with a cosy, local feel and proper Italian food, this is where you should go! The fillet steak melts in the mouth and the fresh ingredients on the pizza are delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive and all of this for a very reasonable price!

We just needed something quick and easy. The food was absolutely delicious. Exactly what we needed. The lamb chops were amazing!

Pasta portions are huge and very tasty.

Shame it was Covid and less tourist in Rome as they cook really good food there. Not many people were in so I had really great service to.

We are visiting from Chicago and take pizza seriously and the pizzas we got tonight from Al 39 were very delicious! We also got a pasta dish and a bottle of wine suggested by the restaurant staff and we very much enjoyed our first night’s dinner in Rome!
