A fun way to get to the Westfjords. The ferry has a galley and lounge. Definitely recommend if you're planning to visit the Westfjords.

A great way to relax from a few days of driving and make our way to the West Fjords. As the pictures show, we had some tall waves tossing us about, so be prepared for sea sickness if one is prone to that feeling. We were fine and found the ride fun.

It is great place to spot the ship leaving the port, also look over the firehouse and the area.

Lovely ferry ride with two main sitting areas; restaurant in bottom and the second area (above where the cars are parked) with windows out to the sea. Upper floor was full with people, a quieter place is in the restaurant area but no windows.

Ferry left at 1030am on time with boarding at 10am.

1.Free wifi
2.Several bathrooms
3.Ferry is wheelchair accessible with lifts between floors.
4. Ticket for one adult and one regular size car was approx 100 usd (130 cad); one way.
5. People slept, played cards, read, ocean gazed
6. Crossing is approximately 2.5 hours with a brief stop in Flatey.
7. This time of year, there is one ferry crossing per day. Earlier in the summer, there were two per day.
8. Restaurant has typical priced items (20 usd / 26 cad) with good variety; you can also hit the grocery store before boarding called Bonus, if you choose.
9. Note: Once you have boarded and left the vehicle downstairs, you cannot return to vehicle during crossing. Prepare accordingly.
10. Plugs on ferry are 240v.

Great way to take a break from driving and enjoy a view of Iceland from the ocean. Ferry is older but has everything you need.

If your rental car is not 4X4, it’s much better to pay the ferry rather than driving 400 extra kilometers, because the road is still half gravel, until august 2023.

An older style ferry. Great tour around some islands.

Definitely is the right decision to take the ferry to Westfjord. The ferry ride is calm, peaceful and relaxing. Not too many crowd, free wifi on board (though unstable), good scenery, why not?! If anything, my only concern is the gaps between the parked cars are too close, you can barely walk between the cars.

Crossing the Breidafjordur by boat makes for a nice diversion, you can see the little islands wash by, wathc the puffins and other birds fly over the water, if the weather is right you can even see rainbows forming bove the islands.
The onboard cateteria served me a cheeseburger whihc I would not complain having from a terra firma shop.
Caveat, if you are subject to sea sickness, and ou are on vacation, consider driving to the other side by land. It will take you longer, but in a day of quite good weather, in the middle of the traverse we still got waves taller than the deck. You can be awestruck by the might of nature... or you can throw up your bowels. You are warned.
