Cool cliffs to see! Parking is right there. Steep climb up onto the cliffs. We found out once on top, there’s a less steep rocky climb on the back side of the cliffs if you choose. VERY windy on top of the cliffs. Very vast and open. Beautiful to see! We spent about 30 minutes here before venturing on our travels. Wild horses near by to say hello to when we left.

Would have loved to spend even more time climbing up the cliffs. Such an interesting view of the basalt columns. Don’t forget to visit the old church down the road

Looks cool also in the winter. You can drive right next to it. No fees, no services.

When we visited in April, there was no-one else there.

Visited the site down a short F road on a very windy morning. Very chilling experience, but we really enjoyed on the enormity of the basalt cliff and the amazing geological aspects of it's presence.
Not for everyone I am sure, so don't drive up the road if you are not into rocks.

Wonderful place with basalt columns. You can climb up and walk there. From the drone you can see colorful crater nearby. Astonishing place during sunset

Cool place to checkout. Doesn’t require too much time, but has a nice view of the cliffs from below as well as a beautiful view from the middle of the cliffs.

The stunning basalt column formation. Off the main road with free parking. There are two paths to the top one is on the left and the other one is on cliff face. But on my opinion looking from the ground is better.

It’s not too far from the main road. Going behind a farm you will see the cliff. It’s a natural made Great Wall. Quite amazing. If you dare to go to the top, the view is amazing.

This is a truly stunning location and judging by other reviews, an underrated stop off during a trip around Iceland.

If you are driving from Reykjavik and heading to the Snaefellsnes this is the natural first stop, and an ideal stop to stretch your legs after a few hours driving.

The rock formations are natural and this to me is what makes the place so stunning, from the bottom and the top. If you can, be sure to climb to the top (remaining safe of course) because the view here will give you a different perspective. If you are unable to get to the top do not worry, the scenery is equally beautiful from below.

A cool looking rock ledge! Its a great way to break uo the drive if you are traveling between Reykiyavik and Snaefellsjokull.

Theres an easy flat dirt road leading to these cliffs with a decent sized parking area (no bathrooms). Theres a few trails up on top of the cliffs which are easy enough and not that tall. Theres no railings and no sigs which is actually very nice! Just you, a few paths, and a cool rock cliff to get a good view.

Nice place to stop by. Rock formations are interesting and you can climb up the hill to get close to them. I recommend a visit if you have enough time, otherwise it's not a 'Must see' in Iceland :)

Quick and easy hike (moreso climb) up. Nice stop on the road, cute church nearby.

Another picturesque geological formation in Iceland. You can't see them all, but this is one that you should try for. Large basaltic columns form the cliff face, and you can climb to the top for a great view.

Great place to stop if you are interested in rock formations or spectacular colour contrasts. If not, skip this place. The pillars are the main attraction at this location, but if you travel further along the road for another
5 minutes, additional interesting spots can be found that I personally found more exciting and unique photographically than the main site. Things like rhyolite hills, lush streams, and black hills with striking lime green to yellow moss and lichen are just around the next few corners, but most people stop before they get the chance to see them.

Easily missable when travelling west on Road 54, right at the beginning of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Gerðuberg cliffs are a captivating rock formation well worth the short (1 kilometer or so) detour off the main road.

Arriving in the very conveniently placed parking lot, you can just get off the car and stare in awe of the imposing, vertical columns perfectly aligned in a kilometer long line, like an unflinching, dauntless and eternal army formation. Or, better yet, you can move to take in the fresh air and, more importantly, great view of the surroundings. We went about things (and were quite happy with the result) by climbing to the top of the cliffs and walking their whole length to the other side, stopping every once in a while to look down the 10-15 meter drop or gaze into the distance towards the Eldborg crater; after reaching the end, we returned on the path by their base and were treated with an equally stunning view of the basalt columns rising up against the blue sky.

To be short, while I wouldn't perhaps travel all the way across Iceland just to see Gerðuberg, if you're nearby, it would be a shame to miss such a great spectacle of nature, especially since it's so easily accessible from the main road.

While driving through Snæfellsnes in December, we stopped to climb up. The views were stunning, and the ice formations a close second!

[September 2021] Upon turning into a sign labeled Rauðamelsölkelda, the cliffs are viewable right away. It was fantastic driving past the looming hexagonal basalt columns on the way towards Rauðamelsölkelda. Although I didn’t allot myself enough time to explore the columns more in-depth or climb to the top, it was still nice to see and appreciate for the brief amount of time I had. I would love to visit again earlier in the day so I would not have to feel rushed, should I return at a later point in my life.

Beautiful wall made out of hexagonal pillars. There is a path to the top but the views there are quite underwhelming.

Interesting cliffs on the west of island. There are not a lot of people, and you can make some interesting photos. It could be a little windy.

This is a short drive off the main road to two gravel parking lots. The first parking lot offers an easy hike up to the top of the cliff. This was probably the windiest place we went on Iceland so it’s totally worth it to bring a jacket and a windbreak.
