The food was so good, I forgot to take pictures! Great service. Small, snug, cozy breakfast spot. Menu isn't huge, but it's really good. The potatoes were perfectly cooked. Loved my cappuccino. The bread is made in-house and makes the most wonderful toast. From the time you step down into the cafe until you finally drag yourself back outside, you'll feel well cared-for - and full!

This was our first stop after getting off the plane (and a great choice). Thought we would help the transition by having a nice hearty breakfast with bacon and eggs. Fun experience and an easy way to experience a little Iceland culture and hospitality with an American flavor.

Quaint, small little restaurant my husband and I ate breakfast at our first day in Iceland. Don’t be surprised if you have to wait a few minutes for a table - there are only seven from what I recall. The service is quick and servers very friendly. I had the Basic B bagel with cream cheese and jam, and it was delicious. It had a ton of cream cheese on it, so if an overwhelming amount isn’t for you then maybe ask for it on the side. My husband had the eggs & bacon and said it was very good, and a good sized portion. This place is a very good option just one block over from the main tourist avenue in Reykjavik.

Make sure you try “the truck”! It comes with a taste of everything. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, fried tomatoes, potatoes, and toast. I’m American, and they make the best pancakes in house! Delicious! I’ve come here 5 times during my stay in Iceland and never disappointed.
Keep in mind they have a small dining room and are very popular. There is typically a line outside of people waiting to be seated. So be patient and don’t try and jump the line! The wait is worth it. 😊

Cozy first stop in Reykjavík after an overnight flight. Delicious breakfast in a cute spot with books and art on the walls. (Food was so good I forgot to take pictures!)

A quaint spot for a massive breakfast! This spot is a must. The fresh baked in house bread, butter and pancakes were the real stars here.

Can’t get enough of this place. The food is SO good, and the people are incredibly warm, kind, and generous. Highly highly highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a hearty breakfast and a welcoming environment!

By far the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life. We ordered American pancakes and shared it and we were full, maybe 1 serving of American pancakes is too much for just one person.

The attention was fabulous, I did not like the coffee and they were kind enough not to charge it, it’s a small thing that I highly appreciate and makes de difference.

Although I liked the food, I wouldn’t recommend the coffee, it had a burnt taste, so maybe try ordering some hot chocolate or any alternative.

Nonetheless, it is highly recomendable place, very well located and beautifully decorated. The best breakfast in Reikjavik.

Fantastic breakfast option. The restaurant is quite small so plan to wait for a table. The staff is very friendly. I ordered The Truck, their most popular dish, which has eggs, bacon, potatoes, and pancakes. I would recommend it to anyone looking for breakfast in or near downtown Reykjavik.

If you're looking for a cozy and charming spot to indulge in some delicious American-style breakfast, Grái Kötturinn is the perfect place for you. This quaint cafe tucked away at the side of the street is a hidden gem that serves up some of the most mouth-watering breakfast items you'll ever taste.

One of the menu items that you definitely have to try is The Truck, which is perfect for those with a big appetite. It's a hearty and filling dish that will leave you feeling satisfied for hours. And if you're a pancake lover, you won't be disappointed by the fluffy and soft pancakes that are served at Grái Kötturinn.

To wash it all down, their aromatic tea is the perfect complement to your meal. But if you're feeling a bit more indulgent, their hot cocoa is an absolute must-try. It's incredibly rich and decadent, with the whipped cream and chocolate drizzle on top adding an extra touch of sweetness.

The cafe itself is cozy and filled with books and cute antiquities, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your meal. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the service is quick and efficient.

One thing that really stood out during my visit was the excellent customer service. When they ran out of hot cocoa, the staff kindly offered us a small cup made from the remaining chocolate for free. And when they later made more chocolate, they informed us and asked if we would like another cup, which we happily accepted and paid for.

Overall, Grái Kötturinn is a fantastic spot for a delicious and cozy breakfast. The menu is filled with tempting options, and the friendly staff and excellent service make for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommended!

The truck was awesome! Tons of food. My husband and I shared it. They make their bread daily and it is so soft. They use loose leaf tea which was very nice. The hot chocolate is tasty.

The grey cat is such a nice little breakfast stop. My breakfast 'The Truck' was accurate as I felt like an 18-wheeler by the time I'd finished.

The staff were friendly and the coffee was really good. Best of all the bread is made in house and its so tasty!

The atmosphere was warm and cosy, and we loved it. Really recommend breakfast here.

Fantastic place, service was awesome. Recommended if you are looking for a British/American style breakfast where you roll out of the place after eating. We stood in line outside to get in, but did not wait too long. Recommended!!! You should go here.

Had a great breakfast here the morning getting into Iceland. The pancakes are some of the best I've ever had! The service was very good. They are extremely nice people here.

I will say to sit down, you may have to wait for a table to open up. It is a very small place but it is for sure worth it! There is a parking garage very close by, I would recommend parking there.

I went to the Grái kötturin for brunch with my husband.
We really liked the warm welcome and the politeness of the staff throughout our meal.
We enjoyed the food, it tasted good and felt fresh. My husband said he had one of the best cappuccinos ever.
If we lived in this city this cafe would be our regular one for weekend brunches. For sure.
