I would say that this was my most favourite view during our trip to Iceland. There are lots of beautiful places to visit, but this one was just breathtaking!
It is something I have never seen before and it is really stunning!
I would say be careful walking towards the glacier as it is very slippery and slanted.

If you want to visit the Sólheimajökull glacier or book a tour from here, then this is the place to park your car. It's a huge parking lot. Unpaved, unmarked. So it really fits any sized car, RV our bus.

There's a visitor center, public toilets and many tour operaters starting their tours from here. But you also can enjoy the glacier on your own. A trail leads to the glacier, it's a nice little walk.

There's a fee to park, so make sure you pay up. Easy with a QR code.

Amazing place to experience nature and its power to produce. Ot’s a good 10 minutes walk from parking lot to the Glacier. Need to be well prepared, or be part of a guided tour to explore the icy landscape. The view is thrilling from the top of ice.

The Glacier is melting at a rapid pace. So lots of running water and deep holes between icy patches.

The parking lot has plenty of spots. It cost about $5.25 USD (or more based on vehicle type)to park. There’s restroom, but need to pay 300 ISK to use it every time.

Definitely need to visit, one of the most amazing things I have seen. It is very surreal and it really helps you understand the impact of climate change.

Out of all the adventures we did on the vacation to Iceland, this is the one we constantly talk about. It was surreal. The feeling of seeing the blue ice as we walked around the corner and then the glacier itself....SUPERB.....and I'll never forget it.

Hiking glacier. The thing you must do in Iceland. The day is perfect (February 2023).
You better join 5 hours glacier tour. That is incredible!

Of all the amazing sights that we saw during our trip to Iceland, seeing the glacier up close was up there with the best. We arrived late in the afternoon when there were very few visitors there. The car park was large and had plenty of spaces. It was a relatively short walk to the glacier which, from the initial viewing platform, you can walk down to it just passed the sign which warns not to go any further unless you're being accompanied by one of the guides and are participating in walking on the glacier itself. It's an impressive sight and one highly recommended to visit.

In redible views of the glacier and bay with plenty of free parking. It took us about 4 hours from Selfoss driving on the ring Rd. There's plenty of free bathrooms, a cafe, a fish and chips food truck, and a small gift shop.

We booked this hike through Reykjavik sightseeing. When we arrived we met Kate from Mountain guides Iceland. Kate had fantastic knowledge of the glacier and I felt very safe with her. She took us on a wonderful hike and made sure we got to see the most scenic points. It really did amaze me and I'm so glad to have done it in the snow too! We were given all equipment needed (helmet, crampons, harness and an ice axe) which really helped hike the glacier. The car park was extremely icy and after taking off the crampons you forget how icy it actually is, be careful! Loved it, a memory that will last a lifetime. Thank you Kate.

2022.09 we have to give a five star to all we see. What Iceland government did is good for us. Glacier is going to disappear meter by meter daily

Parking lot is correct but just the starting point to see the breath taking glacier Sólheimajköll. The valley itself and the glacier at it's end is definitely worth a trip. Take that 10 minutes walk to the base of the glacier and dive into a complete different world. There you will get a sense of arctic 😎. Restrooms and a small restaurant is also there. You can also book a hike on the glacier - but the walk there and the massive ice with it's structures is also worth to see.
