The interactive nature of this museum makes a rather complicated topic easier to understand and visualize. I wish something like this was available to all elementary schools. Very well done. Engaging and informative.

The LAVA Centre is a fantastic place to visit. Informative, interactive, and with very knowledgeable staff. Excellent for school groups. Amazing views from the viewing platform on the roof, and a great shop with lots of interesting things to buy.

Randomly drove by this and decided to stop off - So glad we did. Though it’s relatively small for a natural history museum, it’s one of the coolest and most modern ones I’ve visited. Highly recommend.

This is such an amazing place! If you're interested in the how and why of Iceland and its volcanoes, this place is an absolute must visit!
Packed full of interactive exhibits that are not only awesome to look at, but also super informative. There's even plates in the floor that let you experience different types of earthquakes!
The rooftop viewing platform really brings home how many active volcanoes there are in the immediate area too.

Very informative interpretative centre of the volcanic activity in Iceland. Excellent video on the history of the various eruptions, including a live overlay of all the earthquakes on the island. There is a lookout, gift shop and a cafe onsite.

A very nice exhibition about volcanos and tectonic activity on Iceland. There is a gift shop, where you can buy postcards, souvenirs and even Icelandic made wool clothes. A very nice staff eager to help you find what you are looking for. There is a viewing terrace on the top of the building and a smal caffeteria. Because of Litli-Hrutur volcano eruption, they had a screen with live camera view from the eruption site. Incredible! 🙂🌋

Very entertaining even for quite young kids. The exhibition visit + video can be done fast track in 45min if you have little time, but definitely worth spending a bit more time.

Had a great experiment at the Lava Centre. It was very informative and most of all it was interactive which made it fun. It takes you around and you get to learn about all the volcanoes past and present. There's even an observation deck up top, which point to each volcano so you can see them in real time. Very cool!!

This museum is amazing! I really liked that it was interactive. You had to move your arms and rotate a wheel for information. Besides that, it was sooo interesting and they give a great amount of information. Not to much, but what they do tell you is very interesting and breathing even. It might be a little bit pricey, but if you take the time to read everything and look at the movie and all the pictures, it's definitely worth it! The rooftop view is equally awesome. You can see all the active vulcanos in the region.

In my opinion, this is a must place to visit prior to seeing Iceland to learn a bit of history of volcanic eruption and how Iceland as a country was created from lava and basalt rock formation several million years ago. It's quite educational. I was able to appreciate and remember the mountains, glaciers and volcanoes that we saw along the way though it is hard to pronounce the name. I particularly like the earthquake's magnitude simulation and the effects they used for the interactive exhibition. The footage we watched at volcano cinema is somewhat eye opening and gives me perspective about proximity and safety when volcano is erupting. There's a shop inside the center for souvenirs and books. Upon exiting the museum you have the option to go up the roof top where you can have 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape, glaciers and farm fields.

It was a bit pricey but the exhibition was super cool!! There was a really cool movie showing lots of up close volcano footage, and some videos with personal accounts of people living near volcanoes. The interactive part of the exhibit was my favorite, there was a really cool earthquake simulator.

Definitely worth a stop to understand more about the volcanic nature of Iceland. The exhibits are interactive and highly visual. All are viewed at your own pace and interest level. The number, location, and intensity of volcanic activity on the island through history was eye opening. And that giant magma reservoir display made me more than a little nervous. Would definitely take kids here. Great gift shop!

This was a little museum that told you about the volcanoes in the area. The old ones and the new ones talked a little about the recent volcano activity on the island. Also showed you all the different places that had earthquakes within the last 2 days which was very interesting. But most of the earthquakes are under too so you can't feel them. The guy was very informative. They had videos to watch to help you understand more. All in all very important
