Love this waterfall. In the winter the blue ice is so cool. In the summer you can walk behind the falls. Just down a pathway is Gljufrabui I believe. It's another waterfall. Totally worth a stop if you're around.

Awesome quick stop on your way across the island. They have a huge parking lot and just charge a small fee. You can walk all the way around the waterfall or head to the top and go down a trail to visit a bunch more. It was a fantastic view and a great start to your trip!

One of the most stunning falls! If the weather is right, you can walk under a rainbow!
If you plan to walk near or behind the falls (highly recommend) be sure to wear waterproof clothing and shoes, you will definitely get wet (not soaked, just misty). It is a short, easy walk.

There is a parking fee that you can pay after you park then place the pass on your dash (maybe $6 usd)

There was a cute little shop and snack stand.

We drove past this after dark one night too and there seemed to be spotlights lighting the falls up and cars in the parking lot so possibly it's open quite late or 24 hours.

Where else do you get to walk behind a huge waterfall? Easy access via a short walk from the parking area. We went on a rainy, blustery day in October and the place was packed. Very tricky footing on the waterfall path, but just go slow and watch your step. You definitely don't want to miss this! Continue down the paved trail away from the parking lot to see the second hidden waterfall, Gljúfrabúi.

Breathtaking it's the main word to use. The main waterfall is amazing. But take the path to the hidden waterfall through the pass

Iceland has done a great job, as well, of managing tourism. This used to be a major RV campground. They have now turned into a beautiful field.

Easy stop off the ring road. Plenty of parking. As of 2024 it is 900isk for a car to park up to 24 hours.
Souvenir shop that sells wool jumpers and a cafe that sells hot drinks and sandwiches are available. Toilets including for disabled are also here.
The path to the waterfall is short and well laid, maybe 2 minutes. Accessible by wheelchair and pram. But to walk behind the waterfall you need to climb steps.

You can also walk down the path to 2nd waterfall in the canyon.

This has probably been one of my fav places of our trip in Iceland. This waterfall is absolutely gorgeous and amazing.
You can explore the inner cave through a passage. It is pretty slippery so pay attention.
Make sure to wear waterproof clothes and prepare some warm clothes in the car for when you come back!

Amazing waterfall with cave in the cliff you can walk through to get behind the waterfall. Definitely need to be prepared to get soaking wet in just the mist being blown from the waterfall. Also highly recommend a waterproof case for you phone to take photos without getting the phone lens wet.

Paid parking available.

Beautiful waterfall that you can get up close and personal to. It is located just a bit off the highway and has a good amount of parking. If you park in the lot there's a small parking fee. Then you take a short hike to the falls. It can get slightly crowded on the path that goes around and behind the falls because it is fairly narrow. It is also very slippery in spots, and I saw one person fall down on the rocks. You will get wet if you walk around the falls, so I would recommend a rain poncho. That being said, it is so worth it. The views from behind the falls are amazing. Near the falls there is also a walking path that goes along the base of the cliffs that is nice. My kids explored some small caves. There was also a small gift shop and cafe that looked nice, but we didn't visit it. Overall this is a must see attraction in Iceland IMO.

Beautiful waterfall that you can get up close and personal- including wet! Wear a rain jacket and hike underneath/behind the falls. It’s so mighty and powerful. Stunning moss covered cliffs make the waterfall pop. Once going under the falls, keep walking along the trail and find the cave waterfall less than a mile away and get two waterfalls in one!

Stunning waterfall up close and personal! Make sure you pay for parking while you’re there, as they have a parking officer going around and giving out tickets. Wear your waterproof gear here as well, you get very close to the waterfall

Oh look. It's yet another absolutely beautiful waterfall in Iceland. Who woulda thunk? It's like they're everywhere! Waterfalls, waterfalls, waterfalls.

Anyway. You can walk behind the waterfall. You can walk to where the water hits the pool. It gets loud. And, not surprisingly, it gets wet. Plan ahead!

Don't forget that Gljúfrabúi is a short hike away.

One of the best places we stopped. It's right of the ring road and an easy walk. You can walk behind the waterfall but bring the rain gear, you will get soaked. Pay to park here, but there are restrooms and a cafe. There are several waterfalls here if you want to walk a little more.

A beautiful place worth visiting. You can go around the waterfall, but I recommend waterproof clothing, otherwise you will be completely wet. There is a smaller waterfall about 500 meters away that is also must see!

The walkable waterfall on the ring road. Of course, be sure to visit! Parking (painfully expensive; license plate recognition) almost directly at the waterfall. Accordingly, it is usually crowded here; quiet most likely in the early morning hours. You can walk behind the waterfall - that's a humid pleasure, but a pleasure all the same! In any case (!!!) continue the few meters to Glufurarfoss; it's worth it!

Huge and beautiful waterfall! Our favorite part was actually the hike along the top which had a great view of the snowcapped glaciers and many more waterfalls upriver.

No surprise here, the view is amazing and you can take a hike behind the waterfall !
Wear a raincoat and optionally pant protection. You'll get entirely wet if you walk behind it !

Also, i would avoid going there during peak hours since the parking lot is quite small and we ended up waiting 25minutes to Park the car.

Gorgeous waterfall which you can walk behind if you choose, beware you WILL get soaking wet, so unless you don’t mind a damp car, it’s best to bring waterproofs that you can take off.

The car park is pay and is pay and display, plenty spaces however this, as you can imagine, is a very touristy attraction so you may have to wait a little bit for a spot in peak times.

I took a tour and this was my first spot and the truth is that it is wonderful, as you can see in the video, the ground is made of black stones since they are remains of volcano eruptions.
