Great little museum we loved the houses and church and also the elves houses. We left a donation in the church then the door opened up and we heard footsteps above us. There was no one else other than myself and my wife we stood shocked. Could this place be haunted or was in in fact the elves

Lovely little museum
We were taken there by our guide on the South Coast Tour to fill in a little time. It was fascinating. The little homes outside displaying how they lived were brilliant.
If you get the time, I really recommend popping in. It's in a beautiful setting with a lovely cafe & views.

A nice museum that demonstrates what some of the local life was like in this part of Iceland. You don't need to spend too much time at this museum. But, you can learn a lot while here. A museum staff gave us a brief introduction. They have some nice out buildings to visit. Also, they have a nice restaurant on site for lunch or a snack.

I liked how they did up the transport museum with everything in one place, and how explorable the outside part was. The folk museum was great if you like to see how people used to live, but it was a lot to take in! Some interesting animal 'specimens' in the basement too.

I'm not a heritage museum fan, but this is worth a stop, especially for the boat and the natural science of Iceland downstairs and the outdoor living quarters.

Open throughout the year, the Skógasafn open-air and local history museum has a remarkable collection of over 12,000 exhibits on Icelandic history and gives visitors a very good impression of how life in Iceland developed through the centuries. The special highlight of the museum are the old original turf and dwelling houses as well as the church and school building, all of which were brought here from different places in Iceland by the museum’s founder Þórður Tómasson. There is also a large collection on fishing and seafaring, handicrafts and agriculture as well as natural history and the transport museum, in which the development of Iceland into a modern state is documented. Admission currently costs 2500 ISK (approx. €17 or $19) for adults and 1500 ISK (approx. €10 or $11) for children. Even though Þórður Tómasson sadly passed away in January 2022, his life's work and the preservation of the cultural heritage are still carried on by the employees with just as much passion.

We love checking out ethnographic open-air museums in each country that we visit! This one was on the smaller side. Moss and grass covered exteriors unlike any other we've been to! Beautiful view of Skogafoss waterfull nearby! Extensive historic collection of automotive/radio/phones, etc.

The museum is interesting and worth a visit, but if you want to experience great food and some of the most beautiful people you'll ever see in your life, go to the Freya cafe inside. It is amazing.

Very interesting museum. You can visit the whole place (5-6 museum / site) with only one ticket. I find the Transport and Telecommunications Museum so interesting! The small old houses are fun to visit too.

Such a great stop along on our tour of Iceland. A great museum documenting Icelandic history. Beautiful, authentic, early buildings to tour give you a real feeling of how Icelandic life was. Well worth the time to learn more about the history all around us on our vacation. There is a small fee for entry to the museum and grounds. Bathrooms are available on site.

We had a quick stop here as we wanted to see some turf houses from the inside and were very surprised at how much there was to see, spent about 2 hours wandering around reading about icelandic history. Impressive collection and very well done.

Very interesting, especially the outdoors where you can visit small old houses that remain decorated as before. The museum guide was also very nice and explained everything very well. There's a nice collection of old islandic treasures and archeological items. Worth the visit.
