Nostra was the best dining experience! The servers were amazing and so friendly! We had the 6 course meal which was about $100/person. This is well worth the price since everything in Iceland is more on the expensive side. The food was delicious and very fresh. Our waiter gave us great suggestions on places to go and eat. He's a native that lived in the US for awhile so he understood us. They even gave us tour of their kitchen. Everyone in Iceland spoke English very well!

Creative and Tasty 6-Course Vegan Dinner

My husband and I reserved a table the night before we planned to eat at Nostra, and the restaurant happily accepted our request for a vegan 6-course tasting menu. The restaurant's location is right in the heart of downtown Reykjavík on the famous Laugavegur street. It was easy to find and we loved the black spiral staircase that leads up to the restaurant's modern dining room. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows makes the place seem large but not overwhelming. The staff was really friendly and attentive when we checked in.

We decided to head to the lounge to have a cocktail before sitting down for dinner. My first cocktail was called the Artson Mule. It's mix of ginger, cucumber, vodka and some other ingredients that I can't recall, blended perfectly together. I normally prefer beer but this cocktail was so pleasing to my palate that I looked forward to every sip. I honestly didn't want the drink to end. Before I finished my cocktail, we were told that we could sit at our table whenever we were ready. Our taste buds were primed for the vegan menu they had set up for us, so we decided to sit down for dinner. As we sat down, we noticed little touches of color in the restaurant. The gold trim around the table, the rose colored clothe napkins, the large and lush green plants and the hanging lamps that shone a variety of colors, made the atmosphere feel elegant, comfortable and a little playful.

Our waiter introduced himself and he was excited to announce that we were the first vegans that they were serving in the restaurant. He cheerfully said that the chefs had prepared something tasty and unique for the 6-course menu. Before jumping into what we ate, I think it is worth noting that the waiter emphasized that the goal of the chefs is to use as much of the whole vegetable as possible. This was evident while we were eating and we appreciated the creativity that went into minimizing waste. After ordering my second cocktail, Blue Suede Shoes - a very refreshing concoction of blueberry, lemon, vodka and herbs - our first course arrived. Technically, it was a "bonus" course that the kitchen wanted us to try. Below are the 6 courses (7 with the bonus) that we ate.

Bonus Course - bouquet of fresh herbs and beets doused in vinaigrette

1st Course - Cucumber & Walnut puree

2nd course - Tomato 4 ways

3rd Course - Onion 3 ways - so so delicious - our favorite!

4th Course - Celeriac 3 ways

5th Course - Parsnip - 3 ways

Palate Cleanser - Lemon thyme sorbet with puffed barley

Dessert - Strawberry 4 ways

We thoroughly enjoyed our culinary experience at Nostra and we highly recommend them.

Wonderful meal that felt balanced and unique throughout! Service and preparation were great and felt quality in every aspect. Michelin level restaurant in my opinion and hope that they get their star soon!

Fantastic! Unique! Spectacular! I am a very picky eater and diner, I admit, and when I am on vacation, splurging on fine wining and dining, I want nothing but the best. Well, Nostra restaurant passed the test! Hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in my life. I am absolutely in love with everything about this restaurant. It was just beyond words. I ordered an 8-course meal, a bit of wine and a cocktail. I left buzzing with a belly full of satisfaction. From the cheese-infused goodness to the pan-seared scrumptiousness, it never seemed to end and, while I was ultra full, part of me wanted it to go on forever. The staff were welcoming and highly professional. The decor and atmosphere was perfect. The food was a homerun. Iceland was a fun place to visit despite being February. It was a good trip overall and I think it is worth going at least once in your life. But, because of Nostra restaurant, it is worth going a hundred times.

Nostra restaurant is an experience I will never forget for the rest of my days. First, let me say, walking into this place was just fabulous right from the start. The staff were welcoming and the place just looks amazing. It's like walking into a whole new dimension where nothing is wrong in the world - where everything is perfect.

As I have mentioned before in my reviews, I am not a big fan of dropping boatloads of money on anything. But every dollar I spent at this place is what made my trip to Iceland worth it. I am not kidding.

The seating was comfortable and the service professional. Incredible drinks, wine selection and an 8-course meal that never seemed to end! Just fantastic. I am from the United States and I have travelled plenty in cities like Chicago, LA and NYC. I have never had such an amazing restaurant experience from start to finish. The meat was perfectly cooked. I don't even know what some of those vegetables were. The sauces! Its like nothing else on the planet. Five stars! I'd give ten if I could! Bravo!

BEST restaurant in Reykjavik! Having tried most other fine-dining options in town it was a pleasure to find one to top them all. From the greetings by front-of-house to being seated in first the cocktail bar, Artson, and then in the restaurant the service was topnotch. Attentive, witty, and just the right amount throughout the evening. We went for the 8-course menu with wine pairing and what a treat! Our company had both pescetarians, vegans and omnivores - enough to stress any kitchen trying to time servings - but they managed beautifully. Highlights from the bar include a smoked cherry Manhattan, a aquavit-based aperitif (with seaweed!), and from the kitchen the celearic dish, the nutty salmon belly, and the de-/rehydrated beets dish were standouts in a row of star compositions. It's a new space in Reykjavik two months) and in some areas they still need to work out minor kinks in comms but nothing to make this any less than a 5-star evening and review. I would not be surprised if this place ends up with a star in a certain guide come summer... Go here. You do not want to miss out on some of the best and most inventive cooking and wine pairing in the country.

Oh my God! From walking in the door into a magnificent atmosphere to being swept up in a montage of flavor throughout my six-course meal, I was stunned by how perfect everything was. I don't usually dine out at fancy restaurants, so maybe my reference isn't the greatest, but my girlfriend and I were celebrating! And boy did we celebrate! Fancy cocktails that melted our mouths and wines that seemed pretty high class! I don't usually drink wine, but we were blown away. Then the food. How do I even describe it? There was so much going on. It was like nothing I am used to. The flavors, the presentation, the service! It was spectacular. There was a potato dish called vichysooise (I hope I spelled that right). Sauteed with leeks and wine, cooked penny bun and dill, it was bursting with mouth-watering flavor. The dill potato chips and burned leeks were a nice touch - oh and potato foam! Whoever heard of potato foam?! I remember all this because the waiter explained it all nicely to us in perfect English when he served it. Super experience over all and I highly recommend!

Exceptional place. Beautiful premises with a great view overlooking the street life of Laugavegur, the main shopping street of Reykjavik. Had an eight course menu complimented with non-alchholic drink pairing. I can highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant with fantastic service. I was visiting Iceland on business and I feel so lucky that my company decided to splurge on buying my team a nice dinner here. Incredible drinks on the menu! I had two fancy cocktails and each sip was just electrifying! The multiple course service was unique, tasty and filling. I especially felt like we were getting some true, homegrown Icelandic food with a twist of modern, globally influenced cooking that really set my taste buds into a flurry of emotion. That's the best way to describe it, really. Everything was so good! Loved it. Five stars! Go there! You won't be disappointed!

Absolutely fantastic dining establishment. I almost never write reviews, but this place really was like nothing I have ever experienced before. I had a six-course meal with my wife and it was to die for! Every plate was a tantalizing delight for the senses. Neither my wife nor I are accustomed to Icelandic food, but Nostra provides that experience right down to the very last detail, blending centuries-old tradition with modern day tastes. It was really spectacular. Overall the service was keen, quick and polite. The atmosphere was fantastic. Everybody spoke English. It is a very well-managed establishment that I wish I could return to again and again. I would if I didn't live in Canada. I highly recommend you try Nostra.

To be quite honest, my wife and I didn't know what to expect as we rarely dine in such fine establishments with multi-course meals paired with wines and served with ornate presentations. But, wow! Absolutely breathtaking! Coming up from Canada for our first trip to Iceland, we decided to splurge and it was worth every penny. Knowing this was truly local food prepared by such elegant, skilled chefs really made for a unique experience. The staff were welcoming and everybody seemed comfortable in English. It really was a special treat and I wish I could back again and again. If you are debating between restaurants, I recommend this one, hands down. It's like none other on the planet.

On Saturday night me and few friends went to Nostra to try out their 8 course menu. We looked forward to it since we had heard so many great things about the food.

Without hesitation I can say it was one of if not the best restaurant experience I've had in Iceland. Every course was excellent and came with a detailed description from the staff. The service was also excellent in both the restaurant and the bar.

I tried all of the non alcaholic cocktails and they were simply amazing!

We had a great time and this 8 course menu is something you really need to experience.... words don't do it much justice.

Easy 5 stars and look forward to my next visit!

Had the pleasure of dining with a friend in this newly opened fine dining restaurant that celebrates Icelandic local produce. We had the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing. A really surprising and wonderful experience both for the eyes and taste buds.

Very professional service and knowledgeable staff.

Raw but beautiful surroundings.

Would highly recommend to any culinary and fine dining enthusiasts!

The place is beautiful, the cocktails were fantastic, the service was really professional and the food and the wine were awesome. We had a six course menu and wine pairing and each dish was special, beautiful and tasted really good. It was cool how each dish had focus on few ingredients but had so full and interesting taste. We agreed that this was the best food experience we have had in Reykjavik.

The level of service is top notch and the staff were very nice and friendly. Overall a 12/10 experience and would definitely recommend.

I was a little hesitant at first because I knew it was going to be expensive, but, in the end, I am so glad I decided to spend a little extra on dinner as this restaurant visit became a highlight of my trip to Iceland. The waiter was so helpful, informing us of the dishes we were served and, at six courses, those dishes just kept coming! There was salmon, potatoes, vegetables, sauces and dessert! It was all paired with a lovely wine. Good times were had. This restaurant is worth every Króna!

I live in NYC which can make many a little jaded as New York has raised the bar on standard wining and dining in general! I dined at Nostra with a group of 11 friends and we did the full package at Nostra restaurant with wine paring as I had heard that, that was the only way to really have the full experience.

We started our experience with cocktails at the bar (Artson) and that was a great way to start the evening, I can recommend the House Old Fashioned and the Sunny Sour cocktails. The dinner experience was great and even with a group of 12, the service seemed effortless, informative and professional. The food was a journey for the taste pallette, all with local ingredients and mainly organic. The wine pairing was spot on! They obviously have a talent as a sommelier.

The location is on the shopping street down town Reykjavik, with nice balconies for “fresh air” the interior is pretty cool and the music is really nice.

Beyond our expectations is what comes to mind after visiting Nostra . I believe that is all one can ask for when in barking a new and wonderful experience! I highly recommend that you make a dinner reservation at this restaurant on your trip to Iceland.
