Great place for groceries and provisions. Has pretty much everything that you would normally need from quick eats, snacks to groceries, cleaning supplies and spices. Reasonable prices and parking my car within walking distance has never been an issue here. They also do have a vegetable and fruit store in the complex though that's not very well stocked with fresh veggies.

There is no option for 3.5 so I am giving 4.0.

I like almost all things about this store.
I have visited this store at least 50 times during the past 5 years or so.

The rating would have been 5.0 except for one glaring mistake committed by them, namely....
Bags for customers - The shop owner coolly quotes the union government's guidelines for avoidance of plastic bags.
So, they end up charging for cloth bags or poly-woven sac bags that are given to the customers.
My point to ponder is - "Compare with Online deliveries" of the same items.
When you place an order for such items online (let me not make use of those billionaire companies' names here), you get the items neatly packed and using approximately 5 to 6 times the packaging items. Those companies do not charge extra for packing or for the packing materials.

Then why is it that these local supermarkets and big stores charge extra for giving us bags? I am openly asking all the supermarkets to reconsider this policy and give "non-polluting cloth or poly-woven" bags to customers at no extra cost, at least for a purchase above a particular value of money.

In case of this Vijaya Ganapathy stores, if they give a free bag on purchase of over Rs. 500/-, their customers are bound to go home happier and therefore the chances of their return are much higher.

I mean, how much is such a bag going to cost them (in bulk)? Rs.2/- or Rs.3/-? Why are they hesitating?

We still have VST and Ram Silks cloth bags in our house, they are over 30 years old.

When we see those bags, it induces us to revisit those shops, doesn't it?

It's up to the shop owners to decide and do something which will benefit all.

UPDATE: Nowadays, we are being given Polypropylene sacks whenever the purchased items take up a large amount of space. Good to see the adjustment made by the management!

It is a very good super market with variety of goods. The products sold are very good and nice quality. The staffs are very polite and customer friendly. They even do door deliveries which only a very few stores in pondicherry are doing. Located in ECR road easy to commute, with less parking space for cars & better parking for bikes.

Decent shopping Mart with reasonable pricing, eatery is outside for some quick bite, park facility is for two wheeler and four wheeler outside by road side

Large place for monthly provision. Close to Lawspet. They have started a vegetable and fruit shop. Popcorn shops and fast food shops outside the shop are good. Vijayaganapathy is a popular shop in Puducherry. This is a new branch which is very close to residential area. Plastic products, dry fruits, stationery items are available apart from monthly provision. Ample parking space for 2 wheelers available

They have most of the products needed for daily household use
Not only that, they also give awesome dicounts on all the items one buys
Recently they have also separated the plastics,kitchenware etc division in a separate shop
There is also a vegetable shop next to this supermarket

Very spacious inside. Items are displayed in an orderly fashion. Wide variety of household items available. Courteous staff.
