Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC) is a statutory body under the Transport Department, Government of West Bengal that was established in 1969 for the purpose of construction of a new bridge across the river Hooghly when the iconic Howrah Bridge was being found to be inadequate for catering to growing trans-river communication. It was fully responsible for design, drawing and construction supervision of vidyasagar setu which was inaugurated in 1992. They have high tech quality control lab. Presently they are responsible for maintenance of vidyasagar setu.
