Very beautiful place.
Although I am an atheist, I found it very calm, peaceful and full of oxygen.
So many trees and plants, big nice garden, well maintained.
Huge car parking space.
Extremely clean and a very small entry fee of Rs. 10 per person.
For nature lover and historian, this will be a good experience.

Very beautiful place. Here u can enjoy pin drop silence and peace , staying even after in the heart of city. The Church is one of the oldest architecture of Calcutta, which was constructed with the stones collected from the architectural remains of Gaur. Here u can visit the Grave of Job Charak, Mr. Watson, Halwell Monument, several Judges of Supreme Court in 18th century. Not only that, here u can enjoy the sound of India's oldest Pipe Organ's sound. A special room is preserved in the Church, which was once used as the Office of Warren Hastings. Here table, Coat holder, cabinet, wash basins, Photo frames, Chair- everything used by Hastings, preserved properly.

St. John's Church was built in 1787 by East India company, and was one of the first buildings erected by them on land donated by an Indian Maharaja. Till 1847, it was the Anglican Cathedral of Calcutta before it changed to St. Paul's in 1847. The church area and the tombs (of many luminaries of British East India era) are well maintained. The church charges a small Rs 10 per person. There are also famous tombs like Lady Canning's tomb, Job Charnock's tomb, Lord Brabourne tomb etc.

This is among the three oldest churchs of Kolkata, established in 1787. ,,,,, 60 years before the St Paul's cathedral.

Nearest metro:- Chandni chowk
Nearest railway station:- B.B.D bag

Historical sightings arround the church => 1) Holwell Monument or The Black Hole Monument.
2) Lady Canning's tomb
3) Lord Brabourne's tomb
4) Job Charnock's tomb
5) Rohilla War Memorial
6) Francis (Begum) Johnson’s grave

Inside the church => 1) Johan Zoffany's Last Supper . It is somehow replica of De vinchi's famous painting "THE LAST SUPPER" . But zoffany gave it an Indian touch.
2) Memorial to James Achilles Kirkpatrick, The White Mughal.
3) Memorial to James Pattle and his wife.

A special thanks to Rangan Dutta and his historical blogs.

Magnificent. Completed in 1787. The third oldest Church of Kolkata. Wonderfully maintained and landscaped. Extremely beautiful architecture. The trip comes in a 10 Rupee ticket and the people maintaining it are the most beautiful people on earth. Lady Charlotte Canning's grave is situated here coz it was shifted from the original graveyard located in Barrackpore due to technical reasons. The entire ambience is magical and this Church is a must see while in Kolkata. A pure global Church of international fame.

Entry fee is ₹10 per person, the collector said it’s to help the needy and for maintenance.

One of the oldest churches of Kolkata has Job Charnock & Lady Canning’s tomb inside. The garden will soothe one’s soul. Overall a peaceful environment.

Visiting this marvelous church is an experience of a lifetime. I was spellbound and enthralled by the impeccable British architecture, captivating beauty and the colossal size of this extraordinary paradise of worship. At present, this church has been transformed into a place of tourist interest & a nominal entrance fee of ₹10 is charged from the visitors (for social welfare purpose). It's one of the best places for spending some quality time in solitude, peace and harmony, in a world that's engulfed in chaos and distress. The maintenance standard of both inside & outside the church is simply top-notch. Photography was permitted during my visit. Apart from the church building, the garden is also something to be cherished, for all the visitors. From lush green trees to colourful flowers to stunning memorials, the church's garden is an extremely serene place, which certainly deserves admiration. It's a highly recommended place to visit in Kolkata. 👍🏻

Videography is prohibited. Still photography is allowed however I think that is limited to only the outside area and not the inside of the church.
Warren Hastings Chair is enclosed in a case, a must see for any visitor. Ask any staff or guard you see to guide you there.
Really peaceful and quiet surroundings.
Saw all the graves and especially the 1756 Seige memorial and Job Charnock’s Mausoleum.

St. John's Church, originally a cathedral, was among the first public buildings erected by the East India Company after Kolkata (Calcutta) became the capital of British India. It is located at the North-Western corner of Raj Bhavan, and served as the Anglican Cathedral of Calcutta till 1847, when the see was transferred to St. Paul's Cathedral. Construction of the building, modelled on St Martin-in-the-Fields of London, started in 1784, with Rs 30,000 raised through a public lottery, and was completed in 1787. Currently, the church is undergoing restoration. The architecture is interesting. The history is important, and visiting the graves around the church is quite informative. But the nice atmosphere was a wonderful gift to any stressed visitor to Kolkata. After visiting here I felt lot of peace. Got lots of positivity. I Will love to come here again. Now about church it is clean and good.
