This is probably the largest cemetery that is located in Kolkata!! Here lies the mortal remains of Michael Madhusudan Dutta and Debendranath Thakur. This cemetery is used till date and is mainly used by Christians and Brahmas.

A huge cemetery located near Mallick Bazar crossing in Kolkata. This is the final resting place for thousands of people who once walked the planet and left their mark in the hearts of people. This cemetery is also popular for Michael Madhusudan Dutta's grave, which is located just a few steps from the entrance, on the right hand side. It is well maintained and can be visited by anyone, willing to understand the bitter truth of life - Death. Please maintain silence inside the premises.🙏

This Cemetery is located adjacent to Institute of Neuroscience. The authority says a graveyard can't be closedon any day. It is still on operation. This was established on 1840. This place well maintained and clean than South Park Street Cemetery as the latter mentioned is much older.
Mentionable tombs are of Deenabandhu Andrews, Hockey Olympian Claudius, Educationist Bethune, Michael Madhusudan Dutta, Quiz Master Neil O'Brien, Model Sonika Singh Chauhan.
P. S. I went here on a Sunday and it was opened.

This is the final resting place of so many of my family and friends. I visit it often to say hello to all of them, especially to strangers long gone before me. The old headstones interest me most and I read the dates and the accompanying narrative - it is almost like reading history. Sadly it is in a state of disrepair.

The heavy rains make for soft earth and the headstones and old architecture tumble to the ground in a short number of years. This situation has improved just a tad with concrete pathways which gives a visitor a decent change to locate their loved ones.

My photo mission was to preserve to recorded memory images of old graves that will soon be wiped out to make way for the new. If more people can record the ones beautifully preserved on the far right side as you enter, the better it would be for generations viewing it after we have left this good earth.

Lower Circular Road Cemetery, also known as General Episcopal Cemetery, is located on the crossing of Mother Teresa Sarani (former Park Street) and Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road (former Lower Circular Road), Kolkata, India, with its entrance on Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road. Lower Circular Road Cemetery was established on 1840 and is still operating as a functional cemetery. It contains approximately 12,000 graves including many former British East India Company employees. There are two Second World War Commonwealth war graves, of an officer of the British Indian Army and a purser of the BOAC.

Opened in 1767 and used actively until the 1830s, the eight-acre necropolis is enclosed by a high brick wall which protects the eclectic mix of tombs, cenotaphs, and mausoleums. The nearly 1900 graves represent a melting pot of design influences from European gothic to classical antiquity to Indo-Saracenic styles all jumbled up in a maze of obelisks, cairns, urns, and sarcophagi. A number of the graves belong to famous military and political figures of the time, including Sir William Jones, founder of the Asiatic Society, whose towering memorial obelisk is the tallest of the structures in the graveyard.

While South Park Street Cemetery is undergoing constant upkeep and renovations, the rich tropical surroundings continue to encroach on the mouldering stones. Green mosses and prehistoric ferns cover much of the grounds making for a haunting setting for visitors looking for a little history in their boneyards.
