Returned Letter Office (RLO) - What happens to letters which never reach their destination?

Returned Letter Office, (RLO) of India Post was earlier known as the Dead letter office. The RLO functions as the lost and found section of India Post and all postal articles such as letters, parcels etc. which cannot be delivered either to the destination or to the original sender.
All efforts are made to contact the sender or addressee. Letters which are any possibility for locating its addressee or sender are still kept for a period of three months in anticipation that the senders or the addressees may come to claim for their articles, failing which such letters are shredded and destroyed. Parcels and other large articles are kept for a period up to one year, after which the same are disposed of through a public auction by fixing a reasonable base price.

The RLO building is now a heritage building being owned by Department of Posts. It is located at the South East corner of Dalhousie Square with a 120 feet tall bell tower. It is an iconic building beautiful and ornate and was designed in 1868, and it’s construction was completed in 1876.

My Graduation certificate was not received on my address.At last it was in RLO the overall team members had worked hard and at last found my certificate.They did the work sincerely.Finally got it.

I hate everything and everybody related to Customs in India. Do us all a favor and game end yourself you selfish, money grubbing, fat, brainlets.

My shipment is stuck there for a month now, they seem to dont care about anything or anyone, even if its a life and death situations. So people beware of Kolkata RLO Customs
