Absolutely peaceful place, had lots of paintings and murtis of vishnu. We stayed there for upto 30 minutes . The temple is situated in the heart of Pondicherry (now known as Puducherry) town, making it easily accessible to both locals and tourists. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here in the form of Vedapureeswarar. The temple also houses idols of other Hindu gods and goddesses. Like many Hindu temples, Verdraj Perumal Temple hosts various festivals and rituals throughout the year. Maha Shivaratri is one of the most significant festivals celebrated here, attracting devotees from far and wide.

Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Pondicherry. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the supreme god of Vaishnavism, who is worshipped here as Varadaraja Perumal. The temple is also known as Vedapureswarar - Varadharajar Temple, as it houses the images of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati from the Vedapureswarar Temple, which was destroyed by the French troops in 1748.
The temple has a rich history and architecture that reflects the influence of the Chola and Pandya dynasties, who built and expanded the temple from the 11th to the13th centuries. The temple has a five-tiered rajagopuram, or gateway tower, that is 110 feet tall and adorned with intricate sculptures of various deities. The temple also has a granite wall that surrounds the main shrine and the other sub-shrines within the complex.
The main shrine of the temple contains the idol of Varadaraja Perumal, who is depicted in a standing posture with four arms, holding a conch, a discus, a lotus and a mace. He is flanked by his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi on either side. The idol is made of granite and is about 5 feet tall. Behind the idol of Varadaraja Perumal, there is another idol of Lord Narasimha, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. He is shown in a fierce form, with a lion’s head and a human body, tearing apart the demon Hiranyakashipu.
The temple also has separate shrines for other forms of Lord Vishnu, such as Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman, Venugopala, Santhanagopala and Navaneetha Krishna. These idols were recovered from Vaithikupam in 1902, where they were buried to protect them from the invaders. The temple also has a shrine for Goddess Perundevi, who is the consort of Varadaraja Perumal. She is also known as Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The temple is famous for its festivals and rituals that attract devotees from far and wide. Some of the major festivals celebrated in the temple are Ram Navami, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Pavitrotsavam, Kodandaramar festival and Brahmostavam. These festivals are marked by processions, decorations, music and dance performances, offerings and prayers

Serene temple in the heritage town built by the Cholas in the 11th century and improved by the Pandyas from the 12th century. Spared during the French invasion, it housed the images of Vedapureeswarar which was destroyed by French during 1748.
Five tiered rajagopuram, five feet granite idol of Sri Varadaraja Perumal, and 83 spring holes in the Pushkarni are the salient aspects of this ancient temple.

One of the finest ancient temples in Pondicherry with a great ambience.
No wonder one will be spell bound watching the statue of lord Venkateshwara at the main sanctum.
The sanctums of Padmavathi thayaar and Anchaneya are great as well.
There is a powerful statue of Lord Narasimha exactly behind the main moolasthana. You should not miss it.
The premises is neatly maintained.
During Marghazi month (Dec 15-Jan 14) there are daily sevas offered to the lord
Early morning ambience is worth experiencing 👍

A must visit place if you have come to Pondicherry. I had visited this temple back in Jan 2020 (pre COVID era).
This is lord Vishnu's temple and is probably one of the most popular & important one among other temples in Pondicherry.
The temple is well maintained & spacious enough to accommodate bigger crowd.

A peaceful and divine experience worshipping Lord Vishnu at this temple in Pondicherry.
There were also beautifully painted replicas providing information about the different forms of Lord Vishnu at various locations of Tamil Nadu! 😍
