Gurukulam hostel

If you are travelling solo, gurukulam hostel is a great place to be, you'll meet super nice people there and be a part of community, manager and owner of the hostel are super nice people very helping and understanding. If you are the one who is constantly worried about the belongings leave all your worries behind everything's safe and it is a great place to be. I had a very beautiful experience in my time there.

After a week and a half in Gurukulam Hostel I have nothing but good words for the place and its employees. The best value for money option in Pondicherry without a doubt, with excellent location. Also the atmosphere among the guests is very good. If I come back to Pondicherry I will stay here again for sure.

It's a proper backpackers hostel, amenities which will be enough for your stay like decent beddings, washing machine, clean bathroom.
Met a few nice people over here who were backpacking, also the owner of the place is cool and very welcoming.

"You can check-out any time you like but you can never leave." This place is an experience in itself. A humbling environment and that too in a Prime location. The hosts and the aura of the place was none other than home. The breakfast they serve is a treat to your senses, healthy and relishing. Each one shall have a different story to take from this place. I cant recommend this place more for the warmth that you are about to experience.

Best hostel I have ever stayed in, cannot wait to go back here! The hosts are really friendly and helpful, they treat you like friends and you feel so at home here. The whole hostel has a great atmosphere, with quirky interior throughout, attracting a really great crowd of people. The ambience is perfect, and there are many open and cosy spaces, inside and out, to relax/socialise in. Beds are comfy, with mosquito nets, there is free drinking water and a good breakfast provided. The kitchen space also useful if you choose to cook, and you can do laundry here at a small price. The bathrooms are shared and there is hot water should you need it. Overall we loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Pondicherry!

Great little hostel with very friendly and helpful people. One of the guys is an artist and you will be able to discover his paintings throughout all the rooms of the hostel. Look for them!

When arriving, trust the number of the street because there is no sign that you can look for from the outside. Just walk in, the door is open.

The rooms are shared so there are no locks on the doors. Take your important stuff with you just in case.

Sudheesh and his lovely team provide an excellent experience that none can match. They go the extra mile to take care of your needs. The host family (that includes a cute puppy) are lovely people to interact. They have a vast experience of running hostels and strive to make our stays better. They make you feel at home and respect your space and needs.

The dorms, common areas and toilets are super clean and well-maintained. The prime location of Gurukulam helps us reach most of the places by walk. There are fantastic restaurants in the close vicinity of the hostel. The kitchen is well stocked and accessible for the guests. Also, the delicious food they provide is a bonus here. Oh, wait! One more exciting this about this place is that it is very artistic, and the lovely wall paintings were my favourite. If you're in Pondicherry (solo or group) and looking for a fun-filled memorable hostel experience, I strongly recommend you to try Gurukulam hostel.

Located in white town. Very close to beach, Aurobindo ashram. Auto rickshaw available. Staff really good. Mosquito nets provided for each bed. Bathroom is common. No attached bathroom. Overall, clean and neat dorm. For budget travellers, it is worth stay here.

It's just 3 months old, but it's really good...the ambience is nice and it's kept really clean..the walls are painted beautifully...it's a bit hot but they are in the process of installing more fans all around....and they serve authentic South Indian Breakfast!!! That's pretty neat for a hostel❤

One of the best place to stay. The hosts (Govind and Shahid) are really friendly and helpful. They treat you like friends. You feel like you are at home. Breakfast is also good. This place is close to everything (Especially Beach and Cafe). Overall, I enjoyed there a lot.....:):):):):)

Gurukulam hostel is situated in heart of Pondicherry, near white town. This place exactly catches a Pondicherry vibe in a quirky way with Its beautifully painted walls and quotes
Food here is amazing , light on stomach good south Indian kind.
If you are an artist, planning a long sabbatical in Pondicherry, then it will really be light on pocket and you'll get to meet some amazing artsy minds here.
So definately worth staying...!

Nice hostel in a perfect location. Everything is in walking distance. The Owner is incredibly helpful and wants you to feel comfortable! Breakfast is super delicious and made from a local woman every morning.

I stayed in this Hostel for 3 nights. The location is close to the main area and beach so it is very convenient for you to explore Pondicherry. The staff is also very kind and helpful. He introduced many things and stores in Pondicherry. I really had wonderful time here and will come back again.

Stayed at this gem of a place in Pondicherry during mid April 2019, travelling solo. Loved every bit of it! In particular:

1) If you are arriving earlier than the check in timing, do not worry at all. You can lounge in the common area (even sleep on one of beds there, if you are tired), and they shall try their best to arrange your dorm room for you as soon as they can.

2) Breakfast is made fresh and piping hot in the kitchen by an elderly lady that comes every morning, and it is not just the standard "idli sambar vada" that they serve. During my stay, we were served a traditional Kerala dish called Elai Adai (go look it up!), and it was delicious!

3) No curfew on timings (you can leave at 530am to watch the sunrise; there are house keys kept at the counter).

4) Homely and relaxed atmosphere and feel (unlike some other hostels which looked a little too pretentious, sanitized and hotel like).

5) Most places max 8 minutes away on a scooty/max 20 minutes away on foot. Scooties, bikes and cycles are available on rent at very reasonable rates.

6) Despite being close to most places of interest, the house is located on a peaceful street, slightly removed from the hustle bustle and chaos of the town, and yet, not so far removed that you feel aloof or isolated.

7) You can sleep in the common hall overnight if you don't want to feel closeted in the dorm room. The common room area is quite airy and huge.

8) There is a hall like room above the terrace to practise yoga, or to just sit and read a book or something.

9) Unlimited mineral water available for drinking through dispensers in the kitchen. The kitchen can be used to make your own stuff.

10) Lots of open and cozy places to sit and chill within the property if you don't want to stay confined to the common hall or the dorm room.

11) Rooms and halls remain cool even in April which means that AC is not strictly required.

12) And lastly and most importantly, 2 terrific people in-charge of the place to interact with and make you feel at home. All requests were catered to promptly too. Special shout out to Sudheesh here. Thanks for making my stay wonderful!

Lovely cosy hostel with a great host who's name rhymes with Kapish. Good breakfast and coffee, really nice chill out area, good for playing chess and making friends.

Nice location with good places to eat nearby, I have no complaints!

Gurukulam- place filled with positive vibes, clean and cozy rooms, and very peaceful. They serve delicious breakfast everyday. Sudheesh and govind are best hosts one can ask for, very calm and helpful. Thanku sudheesh for showing us the beautiful sunrise and for d great hospitality. Waiting to meet u again.

It's a cozy place to relive a homely atmosphere. Creativity and innovation have made this place something a backpacker would see and feel here. Worth for money and hence most visit place to stay and enjoy Puducherry.

Great place, best hostel in pondicherry.. they could have done a better job of managing there heat in this summer however at this price you can't expect more.. decent rooms, beds, chilled out atmosphere, near to bus stand and railway station.. 15 minutes walk from rock beach.. hosteliers looking for good place within budget then head to this place..
