The Cossipore Club is a very Special Place with a very calm and serene atmosphere and very friendly people.

The architecture and design of the Cossipore Club is also very interesting and makes it a fascinating place to visit.

The Coaches are very professional and very friendly, and it is a Pleasure to play Tennis here in Cossipore.

Everything about this place is simply awesome.

The history of the Cossipore Club goes back in time even before the sun stopped setting on the British Empire. The British East India Company purchased thirty-eight villages in 1717 and added them to their property at Calcutta. They later reconstituted them as fifty-five villages. Cossipore was one of them. As the British consolidated their hold the volume of repair work on gun carriages increased. For this a bigger workshop was set up here and after two upgrades the workshop built in 1830 had graduated to a full fledged Gun and Shell Factory by 1905. This was the time when this club was set up for Europeans and Anglo-Indian staff of the factory. Surrounded by high walls, an unlikely club house with an imposing double-storeyed building on a huge estate is now ensconced. It boasts a grand pediment held aloft by a row of seven fluted columns with capitals of the Corinthian order. It is a very picture of perfection as you walk around the structure whose sheer volume makes you feel dwarfed. It has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities ranging from Tennis, cricket, archery, badminton, table tennis and billiards. Add to it a full-fledged gymnasium and a swimming pool. A bar to relax and good food. You could not have asked for more!!!

This club is just too good giving you a nistalgic feeling and at the same time its equipped with all modern amenities. Tennis court are just wow. Gym, billiards, swimming, archery name all and it this club has it all. I just love spending time here. Its full of greenery lush gardens and children park is also nice. Located in the heart of the city near dumdum station and airport.

It is a very nice place to spend time. But outsiders are allowed only after getting the permission to go inside the for some activity.

It is located on Dum Dum Road so anybody can locate this place.

It is a defence area so be mentally prepared for that. Though the guards usually do not harass still be prepared.

It organises parties during year end and such days. The charges are very nominal.

Recently I observed that music classes are arranged here. That would be very much helpful for local music lovers and kids.

The East India Company obtained from the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar, in 1717, the right to rent from 38 villages surrounding their settlement. Of these 5 lay across the Hooghly in what is now Howrah district. The remaining 33 villages were on the Calcutta side. After the fall of Siraj-ud-daulah, the last independent Nawab of Bengal, it purchased these villages in 1758 from Mir Jafar, and reorganised them. These villages were known en-bloc as Dihi Panchannagram and Cossipore was one of them. It was considered to be a suburb beyond the limits of the Maratha Ditch.[2][3][4]

H. E. A. Cotton writes, "The Cossipore Reach was one of the finest on the river, and is lined by a number of villa residences." From those days Cossipore had a number of industrial units. – the Government Gun Foundry, the Snider and Rifle Shell factories (originally constructed by Colonel Hutchinson), sugar mills and jute screw houses.[5]

Entally, Manicktala, Beliaghata, Ultadanga, Chitpur, Cossipore, parts of Beniapukur, Ballygunge, Watganj and Ekbalpur, and parts of Garden Reach and Tollygunj were added to Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 1888. Garden Reach wa later taken out.[6]

This club is a British built up area with swimming pool, mud lawn tennis courts, billiards, bar, snacks, tea corner, library and a well equipped gym. The entire area is spick and span and very well maintained by GSF authorities. It dates back to early 19th century. Situated inside the Seven Tanks Estate, a dwelling place for GSF officers, surrounded by 03 schools within the campus.

Campus is huge. Didn’t allowed me to click pictures. But the campus was well managed and beautiful.

The main building is one of a British architecture. The gardens and entire area is beautifully organized with colourful garden and many equipments used in defence. The club has many sports and cultural training sessions in which anyone can enroll his/her name. Different types of sports activities like swimming, lawn Tennis, badminton are offered by the club.

A place to spend your leisure time playing billiards or enjoying a match with the club members. This place has its own canteen which serves delicious snacks at reasonable prices. Moreover the antique royal interior gives this place a peaceful ambience.

Awesome place.. A lot of facilities are available here.llike swimming, club, table tennis board, lawn Tennis, cricket and football ground. First one has to join the member of club to avail the facilities at nominal monthly fees. It is under Gun And Shell factory, cossipore.

Location is just perfect .One can enjoy sports ranging from cricket,football,lawn tennis, table tennis, archery, swimming,snooker to name a few....yup but entry restricted to defence personal and club members☺
