If you think South Indian food means only dosa, idli, bada, sambar etc.. you should try this place. I loved their prawn dishes especially the Malabar prawn, No one wanted to eat chicken after that 😂. Though I expected the food would be spicy, surprisingly everything was very subtle and delicious.
We went there during Durga Puja, so we had to wait a little more than 30mins, which was completely okay during Puja. They took some extra time to serve the food too... but service was great.
Worth the money.

I visited 'Tamarind' on Durgapuja this year, at midnight. We didn't expect the food to be so good at that time of night. All the dishes were delicious. I highly recommend their mutton biriyani.

Location:
On Sarat Bose Road, just opposite to Deshapriya Park.

Ambience:
Typical South-Indian decor, simple yet gives a warm feeling, nice lighting, tables have good space between them so privacy is maintained.

Service:
Very prompt and helpful, attentive.

Ordered:
* Mutton Alisa Soup: nice creamy texture, has good amount of shredded mutton pieces, topped with beresta, excellent taste. Rs 175
* Bhetki Porichadu: starter, 5 pieces of bhetki with a thin coating, medium spicy, good taste. Rs 500
* Elaneer Payasam: thin strips of coconut in coconut milk, not too sweet, very good. Rs 175

Overall, excellent food, average prices.
Highly recommended!

I have been craving for some good South Indian food, and Tamarind was on top of my mind. Having visited this place a long time back, i knew they serve some amazing food. We started off with a Tomato Rasam, moved on to the classic Chicken 65 and Mutton Sukka, and on the main course, we ordered in Malabar Porota, Appam, Bisi Bele Huli Anna and Chicken Chettinad. Needless to say, the food didn't disappoint. Would come back again without any doubt!

Good food equals good times. Tamarind proves this. I really loved the food here. The ambiance is beautiful. The staffs are polite and the service is quick. Do visit this place with your family and friends for some amazing south indian cuisine that stay true to the roots. There is nothing to hate here except maybe for the lack of space. Located just beside Deshopriya Park this place is a must visit.

When Tamarind Kolkata opened it's doors some 20 plus years ago, the city officially got it's first South Indian Restaurant offering Non-Veg varieties of different regions and states mostly around the coastal area. You just get to experience South Indian food beyond Dosa, Idly and all those familiar dishes one would think of when they visit a South Indian Restaurant.

Over here things are much more special and indeed a homage to many culturally rich dishes which most of us wouldn't be knowing till yesterday, but Tamarind has binded all these rich cuisines from Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coorgi, Karnataka, Goa, Coastal Odisha and of course Bengal and welcomed everyone to relish it's preparations under the guidance of trained chefs who carefully keep the authenticity of the dishes intact by maintaining the flavour and true presentation.

I was recently very delighted to come here and celebrate their existence over the years, treating their patrons such great food and making a big name in the city.
I had the opportunity once again to feast over their signature dishes like Coorg Chicken, Fish Porichatu (Bhetki), Kodi Sukkah, Appam, Mutton Stew, Malabar Paratha, Chicken Chettinad and Ambat Dal. The meal was such a heavenly affair that i though i was sitting somewhere in the Southern part of India, getting exactly the true taste of the food like the way how it's done.

Would urge all the foodies out there to definitely visit this place and explore the culinary delights it offers as it would totally turn out to be a memorable dining.

I always had a soft corner for coastal cuisine and this place deserves appreciation for its efforts to present the coastal delicacies in its truest form.

The spicy crab soup was the star of the show and mutton fry with coconut actually had coconut in every bite.Malabar prawn curry went well with egg appam and coconut payasam as desert was awesome.

This place deserves multiple visits...!!

Well done..!!

**Tamarind Restaurant: An Asian Culinary Gem**

Tamarind Restaurant offers a tantalizing fusion of Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese flavors, meticulously prepared with top-notch ingredients. Standout dishes like the Tamarind Glazed Chicken impress, while attentive staff and charming ambiance enhance the dining experience. A must-visit for those seeking authentic Asian cuisine in the city.
