A wet day and a walk aroundxthe Gardens and trip to the Grot and waterfall. Tearoom was open so called for refreshments

Gardens look lovely. But Rydal Hall - who own the estate, wanted to charge us £8 for day parking, even though we were intending to visit for an hour. So did not visit.
Guess the gardens are free if you can walk to them - a donation is recommended.
Would have been better if they just installed a parking ticket machine - or some clear signage.
The man at reception said that we had to pay £8 to even park for the tearooms - but the lady at the tearooms said we could park for free - if we visited the tea rooms.
Perhaps some basic training in customer service for reception staff would be useful.
