Worth a look and quite interesting to try and work out what was what. There are information boards there too.

Once you find it by going through the park entrance and entering the field through the gate on the right hand side, its a great little peak into history. With descriptive signs about the little or larger areas and some great back drop views to boot. We went on foot, so you may need to look into parking if driving there.

Cool place to visit, if you are already visiting the local area 🙂

It was amazing to see what the Romans did here all that time ago. And to see the walls on the mountains in the distance is another spectacular view from the Fort ruins. Worth the visit and look around.

Roman fort -center part excavated. Seen better one and looks like more job can be done. Great place for a walk

A fine example of a Roman Fort. As a former student of Classics I must say I rather enjoyed my visit. Not a lot of information was present, but what was there was well written and easy to understand by anyone. Well worth a visit, and it got my desire to stop what I was doing and dig a trench right up there (don't worry, I didn't) (though if you're reading this and you're looking for someone...)

It is always nice to visit historic places. The remains of this roman fort are just before Ambleside and it's a really nice walk through the fields or to Ambleside.

We came across this after getting off the boat from Windermere lake. An interesting site right on the edge of the lake overlooking a beautiful landscape.

I've visited the Roman fort a few times, it's really interesting! Loads of history and right in the head of windemere, it's free and well worth a little visit if you're in Ambleside as it's around a ten min walk from Ambleside itself!
Loads if history and there's a few signs with loads of info!
It's a two minute walk from the Ambleside ferry launch and a few shops and bars, so if you're walking past definitely pop in and have a look!

Low walls/foundations remaining of a high Roman Fort with some interpretive signs. Amazing place to visit despite the sideways rain and wind giving us a sense of how hard it may have been to live there. From the hill above you get a great sense of the layout. It was easy enough to park up off the road, but the access road is very steep and narrow. Take care!

There's not actually very much on the ground to see but it's fascinating nonetheless, and given it's right next to Lake Windemere at Waterhead there's more to do and see. We had a brilliant sunny day which always helps, but it's still amazing to see where the Romans strutted their stuff so long ago. I wonder if they caught the Ferry?

We enjoyed visiting this site and imagining what it would have been like in roman times.

The picture of it says it all, good when I went because the weather was nice. Rainy weather would be a no no.

I love tangible history. This ticks that box splendidly. Also, it is easily accessible from Ambleside Waterhead and the YHA. Beautiful views of Loughrigg Fell and Windermere lake.

This is an excellent historical interest site to visit: it's free, there is lots left of the ruin to see, there are several information boards for you to learn from, it's easily accessible (from a path that follows a pretty route alongside the river) and its in a beautiful location surrounding by excellent views of lake Windermere, and the hills and mountains.

Impressive to see the Romans work as always. Lovely location by the lake, great to see the footprint of some of the old administration buildings

You can see the fort layout and imagine the buildings from the pics and explanation boards. Get to walk around them too. Ground was soft and spongy due to all the rain, wore our hiking boots and stayed mud free and dry. No tickets needed.
