Nice viewpoint of Lake Windermere. Though hidden by trees 🌳 its a nice walk for those who like forest treks. It's not a huge forest but claims to have the tallest trees in Cumbria/Lake District.
There is a small waterfall within which can be heard from the car park. There are several tracks you can follow amd easily spend 2 hours here. If you want, grab a small lunch/picnic break at one of the benches overlooking the lake.
Be ⚠ Warned ⚠ the road leading to the gardens is very narrow, steep and single lane. Parking is limited, max 10 - 12 cars if squeezed.
Oh the walks can be a bit steep!

Lovely garden, secluded. Further paths in the wood adjacent. Some gravel parking. Turn off hard to spot on main road

We were a little too early on in the year to see the garden in its glory but it is always a tranquil oasis. We will be back in a month's time to see all the azalea and rhododendron in bloom.

Lovely azaleas, rhododendrons and acers in a steep wooded area. Worth visiting now. Very little parking but an easy walk from Ambleside. No facilities.

A beautiful walk when visiting Ambleside, it is owned by The National Trust but it is free. It has stunning gardens, waterfalls and bridges to walk around and admire and plenty of spots for picnics. Definitely worth a visit.

This is the kind of place you could easily drive past, and I confess that over the years I've been visiting the Lake District I've done exactly that. On our latest visit we decided to have a look at Stagshaw.

What a gorgeous place! It's situated just off the main road, and if you're visiting by car you can park in the woods just past the garden entrance. National Trust members get in for free, but there's an honesty box by the entrance and an entry fee is posted. In fact, we were so enchanted by the garden that despite being members we still paid.

It's a small place, built on a hillside, and your walk takes you around and through the garden. There are three bridges to cross, a pretty little waterfall, beautiful trees, rhododendrons, bamboos and mosses, and fabulous views across Windermere. Everywhere you look there's something to take your breath away, and we enjoyed it so much we walked around twice, and promised to return on our next visit to the Lakes.

A real hidden gem of a place.

Glorious oasis of calm shady woodland, with spectacular splashes of colour from Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Bluebells. Best visited in May! An easy 1 mile walk from the centre of Ambleside.
