We loved our stay at Stow House. Stylishly decorated and lovingly restored. Very friendly welcome and Sarah was kind enough to make some excellent dining recommendations and even booked the table for us and the taxi! Breakfast was delicious too. You must try a cocktail if you visit - the lime daiquiri was perfectly prepared. Stow house is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful area, lots of walks right from the doorstep or a short drive away. Highly recommend

This was by far our favorite B&B we stayed in on our trip. Sarah was a wonderful hostess and very helpful with dinner recommendations for the area before we arrived. The owners' have a fun, unique, and beautiful decorating sense throughout the house. Our private room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean; the bed was the most comfortable we'd had on the trip as well. They serve a traditional full breakfast which was delicious and filling, they have homemade granola and some local jam and meats that are great. There's a bar in the sitting room with great liquor and mixer selection where you can get a drink (hosts have a cocktail hour in the evening, or mark your drinks on an honesty tab outside that hour). Beautiful location from which you could start different walks.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay. Can’t recommend the place enough. Such a beautiful location; and a stunning room with glorious free-standing roll top bath and fabulous views of the rolling hills. Incredibly good breakfasts, too.

Every evening has cocktail hour (NB prices added to bill at end of stay) which a) was a great way to meet other guests (if you’re in for that!) and b) offered some superbly-made cocktails!

Sarah, the proprietor, was very welcoming and helpful, too.

We’ll definitely be back one day!

We had a wonderful stay at Stow House. The location was beautiful with a lovely view of the Yorkshire countryside and the house itself is perfect for a romantic vacation. The host (Sarah) arranged both taxi and reservations at restaurants for us, and served a great breakfast. Highly recommended! ☺

A True gem in the the middle of a gorgeously wild landscape. Elegant rooms each carefully renovated, to honor their original proportions. Beds placed to gaze out over the view through the old fashioned windows. Tip top breakfast with tons of choices and freshly squeezed juice. Charming land lady who is stylish and informative about the area. Furniture; a clever mix of Moden design and antiques. Our two dogs where welcome whole heartedly and had adventurous walks. Definitely will come again…

Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful house. Sarah was very welcoming and helpful with suggestions for walks and places to eat. The room, Kes, was spotless and had everything you would want for a luxury break. Excellent breakfast and cocktails. We will definitely return. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

I honestly can't recall how we found out about Stow House but I am so glad we did, and even more so that we were lucky enough to bag the last dog-friendly room for a long weekend in mid-February. The house looks dramatic from the approach, and inside is creatively decorated and a world away from the chintz often seen in U.K. small hotels. Our room, "Lovebirds" was very comfortable with great views across the Dales, and a huge bathroom with both walk-in shower and freestanding roll-top bath. No evening meals but an excellent breakfast with plenty of cooked options. Sarah is an excellent host with plenty of good advice about the area, and also a dab hand with the early evening cocktails. Unfortunately both Aysgarth inns were closed for refurbishment in February but there are plenty of excellent evening options a short drive away. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely plan to return when next in the Dales.

Just the most lovely B&S. Beautiful house, so tastefully decorated in one of the most stunning parts of the UK. Rooms are gorgeous, our room had an amazing view over the dales and breakfast is really delicious. Sarah recommended the perfect walk and a lovely place for lunch - even with suggestions on what best to order! Well we are going back

WOW! What a place! Possibly the best place we have ever stayed. A beautiful building in a beautiful setting. We stayed in Kes and lovebirds with our pup and both rooms were stunning. The art work, themes, style were all complimented perfectly with comfy beds, plush furniture and a warm welcome to create a homey, cosy feel amongst a relaxing luxurious art gallery. The views from each room were marvelous with a cup of tea in bed each morning. We slept like a dream every night, the beds and pillows so comfy. The showers in both rooms large and powerful and even better in the lovebirds room was the roll top bath which I idled hours away in on a Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine listening to the birds and lambs outside. The whole house was a great temperature even with the expansive rooms and high ceilings and unusually cold May weather. The lounges downstairs were cosy, we loved a cocktail in the bar before heading out for dinner, served by the wonderful Sarah who really makes the place. She instantly made us feel relaxed and at home and a good laugh too. We really enjoyed a breakfast, we each had something different each day and loved each one, the freshly squeezed oj a lovely touch. I especially enjoyed the coffee, very nice. We visited as part of the Herriot Way and never once felt out of place as scruffy walkers with our worn out pup. She enjoyed the large garden to roam about in and sarahs dogs to say hello to. We can't wait to return and enjoy the area in a bit more style. Thank you so much for a magical stay, we'll hopefully see you soon!

Must be the coolest place in the Yorkshire Dales….

If you are searching for top-end luxury mixed with a splash of Urban in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales, then look no further. Stow House it just that.

Without sounding like I’m repeating all the 5 star reviews below, this place is just amazing. Not only are you surrounded by just the right amount of antique and vintage furniture that’s perfectly placed throughout Stow House, you are also greeted with really cool, quirky modern artwork throughout the place… And you know what?, it all just works. It was no surprise to read that Sarah and Ian (the Owners) had careers in creative advertising because you could just tell they know what looks good and what works. You know that feeling you get when you walk into a hotel or somewhere you are saying and just think ‘yes’, well Stow House gives you that feeling 10 times over.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights with our dog (Oscar) and just didn’t want to leave. Sarah and her team made us feel so welcome. Sarah had this knack of being able to spark up conversation that was interesting and relevant to us and our tastes. Who would have thought I’d be talking about Kill Bill, LA and James Bond with a hotelier I’ve only just met in the Yorkshire Dales. The artwork that is so perfectly placed throughout Stow House needs to get a second mention. It had that ‘private collection’ gallery feel about it where each piece told a story. It wasn’t just some fancy picture that was put up on the wall for the sake of it, it all had meaning and a back story which was clear as Sarah told you about any piece you asked a question about (ask about Babycakes Romero).

Our room was arguably one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in (I don’t say this lightly as I’m well-travelled and have seen a few places in my time). The room was Cowboy Balance on the second floor. Very spacious, amble room for all our stuff (inc Oscar) and a view that stretched for as far as the eye can see showing the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales countryside in its most breath-taking form …especially as the sun came up in the distance each morning. The renovation of the room (and entire place) was immaculate were no expense was spared. Top end fixtures and fitting throughout, remote powered velux windows, Burlington bathroomware and again, more antique pieces that have been very well looked after really made the place. Having the large bath in the room also was a nice touch as you could just gaze out of the window and watch the day turn into night. The king sized bed with multiple pillows was bliss after a long days’ walking which as soon as my head hit the pillow, it was lights out. It’s quite obvious but I’ll say it anyway, the room was also extremely clean. The images on the website, don’t actually do the room justice.

Breakfast was a joy. You could order your breakfast the night before and also what time you intend to eat. Sarah was very accommodating for Vegans, which was also a pleasant surprise. Sarah also does a cocktails hour each night in the bar but unfortunately, we missed this. A shame really because we would have loved to have spent a bit more time with Sarah & Ian and they seemed really interesting people who you know you could have just chatted with for hours. The bar is a honesty bar which im sure some people will also find helpful as we could see any shops to buy drinks at in Aysgarth other than the pub.

All in all if luxury boutique B&B’s (Seems weird calling this a B&B as it’s so much more than that) in the Yorkshire Dales is something you are looking for, Stow House is the blueprint.

The perfect place to break a journey between London and Newcastle. A lovely independent B&B which is run by the owners. The cocktails were excellent, as was the atmosphere in the bar, and breakfast involved locally-sourced home-made ingredients. The decor inside is fun and the views outside are breathtaking. This lovely old country house has been refurbished to a very high standard.

Went to Stow House for our three year wedding anniversary. Sarah was lovely throughout the whole process and was super helpful and accommodating. The room was lovely and I think I may have fallen in love with the shower. Breakfast was great too. Bed was comfortable and the chairs in the room provided much entertainment! Well worth the money.

We recently stayed at Stow House and we really enjoyed it. The large Victorian house and the way it is decorated and run made us feel as if we were part of an invited group in a country home, not paying patrons in a hotel. Its partly that there is a cocktail bar and snug to sit in with other guests and partly that Sarah has the sort of personality that gets a party started. However, you all have lovely and large rooms to go to should you just want a quiet bath or read. The decor is fun and quirky and yet still very comfortable. All the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. Its very clean, the views are sublime and the breakfast was excellent. Sarah and Phil have created something different here, and its really great.

Just been with my wife & our friends for a Saturday night stay here and have to say the whole experience at Stow House has been faultless. Stunning - and I have to say, thoughtfully quirky! - decor throughout, along with beautiful, high spec bedrooms, added to a very enjoyable stay. Owners, Sarah & Phil couldn’t have made us feel more welcome (Sarah, front of house) and fed us better - Phil manned the kitchen and presented us with just the best of breakfasts! We will return!
