A lovely shop choc-full of delightful, quirky items. Many shops with a similar vibe can be lovely for a browse and then you inevitably walk out empty handed - not "Detail." There was so much I would have loved to purchase but I kept it to a lovely embroidery kit which I've never seen anywhere else. The staff were also very friendly and indulged us in some lovely banter. We will be back, soon!😊

This is a lovely of interesting curiosities. So many beautiful things … you will find it hard to walk out without buying something. I did. Family run businesses like this deserve to be supported.

I went into the shop over a month ago with my husband and will be frequently visiting from now on. Both staff were absolutely lovely, very friendly and chatty. It was lovely to be in a shop where the staff seem to genuinely get along with each other and allow customers to join in with their banter and have a laugh.

Stock choices are wonderful, and the young lady downstairs was very helpful in answering our questions. Clearly staff are passionate about the shop and what they sell.

Overall a very enjoyable experience, will be recommending the shop to family and friends who are going up to the lakes.

It's not often that me and my 8yo son are on the same page, but we both could have spent all day in this delightful gem of a shop. A real antidote to the numerous tacky gift shops and adventure gear stores in Ambleside, we both spent the bulk of our holiday spends in here on craft supplies, jigsaws, books and mementos.

Gorgeous shop, perfect place for really nice quality gifts. If you go downstairs there’s even more. I also bought some wool to crochet my daughter a chunky scarf. Heidi was very helpful and recommended the number of balls I would need, such lovely soft Rowan wool, the only problem was choosing which of the beautiful colours. The scarf is so lovely I now have to go back to get some more wool as my other daughter now wants one. Xx

what a lovely little shop. full of things cumbrian, with some other quirky, cute, and gorgeous stock.

Definitely a little jewel of a store, two floors of eclectic slightly left fields products, with collection from local artisans .. and an a interesting pick me up books !

Ordered a gift for a friend from the website, it arrived very quickly, in perfect condition and beautifully packaged. I will certainly use them again

I ordered a mug online from Detail Retail at the weekend not knowing if it would definitely get to me by Christmas.

This shop has a wonderful selection of bits and bobs and friendly staff. They have great iron-on patches and pin badges for the different lake district fells. I could've bought this whole shop if only I had the money 😢

Fantastic shop and even better staff! We regretted not buying something when we were visiting the area and a quick message to the shop and it was in the post same day, wonderful service! They stock lots of unique items from independent and small businesses so you're bound to find something you might not easily find somewhere else. Can't recommend this shop enough.

Great little shop and efficient online service. Pictures arrived quickly, well packaged with a lovely hand written note. Need more stock online as I may have purchased additional items.

Can be expensive but recommended for a visit. You'll find some items here you'll not find elsewhere.
