The statue gives a sad impression at the first look. A man wrapped in rusted metal and bound hand and foot, doomed to withstand everything for all eternity.

The statue predates Anthony Gormley’s better known “Another place” work on Crosby Beach. It is quite similar in appearance to these statues. Anthony Gormley’s Iron Man is in a prominent location, close to Birmingham town hall. Its placement is a nod to Black Sabbath, who often played at the town hall and who released the song Iron Man on their album Paranoid in 1970.

Basic statue, a bit boring with no information boards that I saw. It's ok but not worth a special trip or anything

I don't get the fun of this statue. It's big, rusty and ugly. It was a gift to the city by the Trustee Savings Bank, in March 1993.
