we visited the museum already some years ago and they have some pretty interesting exhibits, first of all the fossilized bones of „lucy“ / dinkinesh (displayed is the replica, the skeleton is preserved in the museum’s stash). shortly the section about the ethiopian antiquity was renewed and shines in new brightness. it tells the story of the aksumite kingdom up to the spreading of christianity and islam in medieval times (kingdoms and sultanates).

I had the pleasure of visiting the National Museum of Ethiopia recently, and I must say it was a great experience. This place has a wealth of archaeological and cultural heritage for you to explore. It is a must visit place for anyone coming to Ethiopia. It offers an insight into the history and culture of the country and is a great way to understand the significance of the land. I highly recommend it to any traveller!

When I arrived at the Skylight Hotel, near the airport, the staff greeted me, saying, "Welcome Home."

This what they often say to their guests, and the idea that we are all, in a sense, Ethiopians is something said by Ethiopian Airlines.

When I went to this museum, I felt that.

I was blessed to have a guide, which all the more enriched my experience. It is, however, not necessary to have a guide. There is information everywhere in English.

A must go.

Let's respect Lucy. She is our story, the history of everybody. We come from there. She is our ancestor, your origin. Please respect her!

Proper first place to visit in 2014 Eth.C as the spirit of holidays due to our Ethiopian New Year, I figured to start from our very own National Museum of Ethiopia💚💛❤
Where I learnt about the rich culture and variety of my people's history that is preserved properly. It is a great experience, a walk through our history due to the exhibits and various collection of objects and materials of cultural, religious and historical importance. It was definitely an enjoyment as well as education for me.

The museum is in good shape considering the recent problems in the country. It's worth a visit. It has 3 floors , one with prehistoric stuff and the other 2 with things that are more specifically related to Ethiopian history. The price was around 1€.

This was such a wonderful place to visit. I really like the history that is held in this museum and would visit again when I am in Ethiopia next year. The one thing that I did not enjoy was the state of some of the artifacts. If they keep them with all this dust they will not survive very long. We really need to donate some money here.

Home of the famous prehistoric fossil Lucy (Dinknesh) and others. All the prehistoric fossils, different shapes of stone from the stone age are found in the basement. Art and artifacts are on the 1st, 2nd and 3 third floor. If you love post cards, you can get them for just 2 ETB from the 3rd floor. You can get books published during hailesilassie era for just 25 ETB.
