Iguana Surf Camp & Surf Shop

Had an awesome time during our 7 night surf camp! Hotel and surf shop are in a great location and all the staff are super awesome and helpful. Restaurant attached makes for convenient breakfast and dining if you don't want to stray far, and the grocery store downstairs is also beyond convenient. Rooms are comfortable and the shared spaces are great to meet and chat with the other surf minded guests staying at the hotel. Moises got us up and surfing in no time and was great at taking us step by step to become competent beginner surfers. I had high expectations on the knowledge and skills I would learn from a week long surf camp and I am fully satisfied and confident in my new skill set! Warwick was great on helping organize our schedule and excursions before we had even arrived and it was very easy to find someone if there were any questions that arose during our stay. Had an awesome time and would certainly return. Pura Vida!

We had an amazing experience with Iguana Surf. Our family- ranging in age from 6 to 40, all first time surfers, were able to stand up and ride the waves within the hour and had a blast. Thank you to our team of instructors- Kevin, Yola, Annie, Brian, Riner and Alexander. We booked another lesson for the weekend immediately!

My 11 year old daughter took a surf lesson with iguana surf during our vacation to Tamarindo and she loved it! This vacation was her first time in the ocean and Tyler took great caution in making sure she was safe and comfortable. The entire process from booking to the end of the lesson was so smooth and easy. Christian was super helpful at the shop getting her set up. We found the entire staff very friendly! Tyler not only made the lesson fun, she was able to get up and ride several waves! This really shocked me, since this was her first time. I couldn’t believe she stuck out the entire lesson and wanted to go back out the next day. We would HIGHLY recommend Iguana Surf to anyone, especially families. We did a semi-private lesson this AM with Carmen. The whole experience was fantastic. They take care of everything and make sure you are safe. I was able to easily get up and ride a few waves. It’s so fun and I’m loving Costa Rica so far. Thank you!!

It was awesome! I personally was not the biggest fan of surfing, but ever since I surfed here it has become something I really enjoy. Iguana has the perfect vibe of chill and friendly, I have gone here for three years and loved it every time ! And Carmen is one of the best instructors if you call a day before you might be able to get her! She was so friendly, cheerful and super supportive!

Everyone is very friendly and very welcoming. The surf instructor Luca was great and very patient and constantly positive and just happy to share his love of surfing. It was easy to change boards if wanted and staying at the surf hotel just made everything easy! Thank you!

I have gone to Iguana Surf before and everytime it has been so wonderful! I went in hoping to book a last minute lesson and Christian was so helpful in organizing it for me! Set me up with a fantastic instructor, John who was so knowledgeable, helpful and fun!

Had a fantastic lesson with Kevin today. He did a great job of making sure we all had a great time and caught lots of waves, while managing the group and keeping us safe when the area we were in got busy. He’s a high quality instructor who gives great feedback and helped a variety of different kinds of learners succeed. Couldn’t recommend him and the team at the shop highly enough!

My 10 year old daughter and I had a great week learning how to surf at Iguana. Luca was a phenomenal instructor. He was knowledgeable, patient, kind, and had us up and catching waves in our first session. He emphasized proper positioning and technique, and taught us about wave selection and timing. He made sure our sessions were fun and safe.

Christian and everyone at the surf shop were super friendly and helpful. So many people went out of their way to say hello and ask us how we were doing.

We stayed at the Iguana hotel which was comfortable and clean. It is right across the street from the beach and within walking distance to everything. Warwick was a fantastic host with excellent communication leading up to and during our stay. He ensured a seamless airport transfer and helped us book a horseback riding trip.

10/10 recommend.

I was a camper here and it was such an amazing time! The staff were so helpful and let me check in early :)) My instructor Luca was the absolute best he gave me 1:1 feedback and explained all the concepts to me so concisely. In one week I went from a total newbie on a soft 9ft board needing a push to get on a wave to a hard 7'10 board and no push no direction. Now I can rent my own board and catch my own waves!

Kurt was a phenomenal instructor! He was knowledgeable, patient, and kind! We were very happy with this surf shop as they were timely and professional. We feel so lucky to have had Kurt as our guide, we came in not expecting to stand up during surfing but he had us up on the boards right away!

We had a semi private lesson with Kevin and it was awesome. He was extremely helpful with pointers and correcting what we needed to do, and made it easy to learn. We were able to get up quickly and get comfortable on the boards. The staff at the shop were great and it was an easy process to book. It was a really fun and great experience and I’d highly recommend booking with them! I’d definitely go back

Made me feel like a superstar! All I’ve ever heard is how hard surfing is first try. I am not young and not small. I thought I would be happy if I caught one wave alright. I got up every single time. A dozen waves? More? I stopped counting after two. I’m beyond happy with the results. If I can, they can get you there too! Pura Vida!

Did a two hour lesson with the family. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend it! We would definitely be back. Our guides were great. Pura vida !

Great experience!! Manuel is a great instructor. This was my first surf lesson. Manuel gave us an easy to understand lesson on the beach and I was up surfing on my first try. I also was able to rent surf boards at a great price the rest of my trip from Iguana. Highly recommend.

We had Fifo and Luis as instructors for a semi-private lesson. They were absolutely amazing instructors. Patient, knowledgeable and extremely fun to hang out with. All four of us were able to stand up with their instructions had several great runs. Would definitely recommend this surf shop! AND ASK FOR FIFO OR LUIS!!!!

My husband and I both got private surf lessons at Iguana surf and our instructors were Kike and Moses. Both were fantastic instructors and we both had a fantastic time learning to surf for the first time. They made it easy for us to learn and by the end we felt confident on the board! We rented a surf board from Iguana surf as well after the lesson and took what we learned from the lesson and applied it the next few days by ourselves. We will definitely book Iguana surf again the next time we are in the area.

We had an AMAZING time! David was our instructor and he was a wonderful teacher and fun person. He made us feel comfortable with our surf boards and we were up and surfing within the first 30 mins as complete beginners!!!! They were also very accommodating when we needed a last minute schedule change. Highly recommend and would request David/Mauricio if I went again! HIGHLIGHT of our trip! Make sure you bring cash for the photos they take. It’s $35 if you want them (you’ll want them) and with a card is much more. PS reasonably priced parking right across the street.

We cannot say enough amazing things about Iguana Surf and our 4 private instructors. Kenny, Carmen, Reanor, Keylor were absolutely incredible for the 3 days we had with them. They made my 3 daughters (ages 10, 9, 6) and wife enjoy every second of their surfing experience. I cannot recommend Iguana Surf and these 4 instructors enough. Thanks for the memories, you will be missed.
