Pato's Surf School

My brother and I paid $120 US for a 90 minute semi-private lesson that includes a five day rental of the surf board and board shirt. The lesson with José was very helpful to make the most of the experience. I highly recommend Pato’s Surf School if you would like a pleasant introduction to surfing with great value.

I took 6 lessons with 3 different instructors over the course of a month. All of the teachers are great, and super passionate about initiating others into the sport. But Daniel in particular is an exceptional instructor - super calm and chill, highly knowledgeable, friendly and funny. He genuinely wanted me to have the best experience possible, and was generous with his time and assistance to make that happen.

Pato's Surf School was the BEST place to learn how to surf. My only goal was to be able to stand on the surf board and I was able to learn how to do it early on in the lesson. My friends and I were there for a yoga retreat and our instructor Danny explained to us how there were many parallels to yoga and surfing. Danny was a great instructor he was very patient and able to tell right away where we were getting stuck and gave specific instructions on how to fix what we were doing. Would recommend Pato's Surf School to anyone who wants to learn how to surf. They also offer drone footage of the lesson. I wish we would have taken advantage of that as well. 10/10 definitely check them out!!

Couldn’t recommend this more for anyone visiting the area. They were patient, friendly, accommodating and flexible. Danny was our instructor and he was great. They really make you feel comfortable even if it’s your first time! Wouldn’t hesitate to go back here next time I’m in the area. 10/10!!

This is a great place to learn to surf! My husband and I spent a few days taking lessons with Marcelo and he struck a great balance between helping push us into waves so we had fun, and teaching us skills to be able to surf independently. We appreciated his kind but straightforward teaching style. The whole team here has a great vibe and is very welcoming. Lessons here come with board rentals for a few days if you want to practice independently. When the water conditions turned less than ideal for learning halfway through our second lesson, Marcelo arranged for us to come back the next day and make up the time which was really nice. By day 3, we were both able to paddle into waves, stand up, and turn without help. Thanks for a fun trip to Samara!

Can highly recommend Pato‘s Surf School.

I booked a private surf lesson together with my 8 yr old son and really enjoyed the experience - we learnt a lot and had so much fun! Following the lessons, we were allowed to borrow surf and body boards for five days - for free. Overall value for money was really good.

Every member of the staff we met, including the owner family, were really lovely people and particularly welcoming to our small kids. They answered all the questions we got and recommended the best times to hit the waves.

The location could also not be better. The surf school is located at a beautiful spot of Playa Samara, next to a nice beach bar and restaurant.

Excellent surf school! We really enjoyed the lesson and managed to gather first, highly positive surf experiences within days. Our instructor was Paco. After a theoretical introduction covering the different positions, their transitions, and some security insights, we were ready to surf :)

After day one we were allowed to train by ourselves and could use the boards free of charge.

The surrounding is really nice with chairs and a lot of shadow under palm trees!

Pato's is GREAT! Everyone was laid back and easy to work with. Kate made booking a breeze. Elder was our instructor and did great with our kids (7 and 10). My husband, the kids, and I all were able to get the hang of it. I HIGHLY recommend Pato's!

We booked lessons for my wife and 2 kids (8 & 6).

Jose took the time to explain the basics on land to all of us before getting into the water.
He spent the entire time in the water with our kids while my wife and I enjoyed the waves on our boards.

Both kids loved it and were surfing quite well with the personal instruction of Jose.

Great price, excellent instruction, and we were allowed to use the boards anytime for the next 5 days to practice our surfing.

Patos is great! Really wonderful instructors, plenty of time to learn and surf during the lesson. When I walked by the next day, they knew me by name. Great atmosphere to try something new. Based on your experience they will recommend the best time of day to surf for you, not just to fill in spots. They want you to have fun and feel successful.

Loved every minute of the lesson. Jose was a fantastic teacher who had a great sense of humour. The crew was nothing but fun, professional and can’t recommend enough!

Our first time doing surf lessons, we were able to catch a wave and stand up surf within the hour and a half lesson. Success! The instructor was very cheerful and uplifting with clear instructions. A great value because the use of surf board is included for a further give days after the lessons. Best to book a day prior or early morning because optimal time to surf depends on the ocean tides. Best lessons I've ever had. The instructors were super knowledgeable and I was cruising waves by the end of my lesson. Super friendly and amazing staff. 100% would recommend to any and everyone!

Had a surf lesson with José and it was fun all the way. José showed us the fundamentals, gave helpful advices and motivated us. I also liked his sense of humor.
Board rental included the next 5 days after a lesson seems fair to me. Totally worth it.

Pato's Surf School is just amazing! We took a two hour lesson (2 people/120 dollars) as absolute beginners and afterwards we were able to take the surfboards 5 more days for free! We had so much fun. We can definetly recommend them :)

Had a private lesson with Hosuan, very friendly guy and good teacher who is from Samara and surfed his whole life here.

He had no problem repeating some things I wasn't sure I understood correctly, and gave me feedback after each wave I caught.

He was always there to give me props for catching any wave, which was nice, when you surf your first time.

Also gave me all tips I asked about the beach, tides, etc.

Regarding Pados surf school itself:
I like that the price includes that you can catch a shirt & surf board depending on you current skill 5 days after Ur lesson. That's awesome when you just want to practise an hour per day or so, without having to take money with you to the beach or to wonder if it's worth the rent fee :)

Ah, and I booked my session for the next morning just the day before via website chat, which was super comfortable.

There are basically only 4 bad reviews here which are from the same person/family, what a shame.

Can definitely recommend this school to everyone!

When I was there there was also a Mexican photographer, Julio, who took pictures which you get when you message him afterwards and can just leave him a tip, depending on Ur budget and how you like the pictures.

Couldn't have had a better experience at Pato's. The instructors were awesome, free 5 days of board rental is a killer deal.

Great school and rental shop - have had several lessons here over the years and always return for the quality board rentals. Towards the end of the surf beach means more space to line up and maneuver.

Rented multiple times a surfboard at Patos and can totally recommend the surfschool. I also had a surflesson and you can have the board for 5 free days afterwards. Very friendly staff and good vibes.
