Long and winding roads can lead to wonderful things and Coyol was one of those memorable treks.

Ambience here is magnificent whether you get here at sunset, or when you sit beneath the twinkling lights and the candles when it’s dark.

The beginning of our coyal experience was a little bit rocky as our Initial host was not as accommodating as we had hoped. He first sat us next to a very loud family. We asked to be moved. When we got to that table, it was situated on a little bit rocky and uncomfortable place so we asked to be moved again. Even though there were many other seating options this host, he was very annoyed and said, You can either have rocky table or the one with loud people “. So we reluctantly sat close to them.

Once we were attended to by an amazing server, we were able to enjoy our time at Coyol.

Menu is beautiful. Lots to choose from, including a cocktail list, which is lovely.

The complementary homemade bread with three delicious sides was unexpected AND tasty

The pork ribs were so tender, and the barbecue sauce was out of this world. That steak came with side tray of french fries that were perfectly cooked as well as a nice tasty cauliflower

Awesome overall experience. Highly recommend this beautiful restaurant in the hills with charming atmosphere and delicious food

Adventure awaits! The drive is not for the faint of heart. It's a climb! I was thankful for my AWD Subaru it handled the road with ease.

The food, service and atmosphere was out of this world. 10/10 recommend if you are in the area.

Absolutely worth the drive, everything’s was delicious and what a beautiful view! We recommend going at lunch, and we had the place to ourselves and an easier drive in the daylight. Food and service was excellent, and the view was truly beyond words.

We came here during our honeymoon trip through Costa Rica and this place was recommended to us several times. It definitely lives up to its high expectations! The road up the hill is an adventure itself but easily doable with a 4x4. The prices are high but reasonable given the remote location and quality of the food. We definitely recommend the Tuna Tatar which was amazing! Make sure you come here early to enjoy the sunset with stunning views across the valley and the ocean while hearing the howler monkeys in the trees. A big thank you to the extraordinarily friendly stuff for making this night so special for us!

This restaurant is difficult to drive to. It is on a mountain and you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Once at the restaurant, you see why people make the journey. The view is amazing and the food and service are very elegant. It's upscale prices so plan on paying at least 30-60 minimum per person. We had an outdoor table but had to be accommodated inside when it rained. The whole experience was great.

Before I start, I will admit that getting to this restaurant is a journey in itself. My family thought I was crazy when we were driving up this mountain. They kept arguing that there was no way there was a restaurant at the end of this road. Well…. There was, and I have to say that it was well worth the trip. The views outstanding, the atmosphere PERFECT and no words can even begin to explain how absolutely delicious the food was. Take the advice from the waiter and start with the eggplant appetizer, even if you’re not a fan of eggplant. Every bite left me wanting more. Each of our meals were equally delicious. My short rib was the best and most unique preparation. The portions were huge, and we boxed up our leftovers to enjoy the next day. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT miss out on this dining experience.

This place was absolutely worth the drive. Aside from a stunning sunset and delicious cocktails and food, we had the most amazing waiter. Jordi was incredible!!! He made us feel right at home. He truly made the experience complete. We can’t wait to come back!

This place is over the top! A memorable dining experience for sure. My best advice is get a very good car to bring you up there and arrive early so that you can have some solo time on the swing. Plan to spend the evening without rushing. The 40 oz Tomahawk steak served on a sizzling platter is out of this world!

We dined at night with a big group. The view is amazing. The food was delicious, and the portions were large. I tried the "salad" which turned out to be huge and shared it with the table. Not my favorite 😞 The ribs were very popular but on the dry side. The drinks were delicious. The house red was one of my favorites.

I've been in Costa Rica 2 years and this was the best meal I have been served!

Getting to Coyol is a small adventure, as it is located on a hilltop above Nosara. Steep gravel roads from Nosara will get you to a small, adequate parking lot in front of the restaurant. The first thing I noticed is the beautiful landscaping and wood grill out front of the restaurant.

Upon entering the building, the dark colors, tico portraits on the walls and interesting fixtures give a trendy feeling to guests. The indoor dining area is cozy with maybe 10 tables.

Moving out to the covered outdoor dining area in back, there are several more tables before reaching the uncovered outdoor tables but by this time you aren't looking at the restaurant anymore. Now all you can see is the gorgeous views to the ocean and sunset, until your attention drifts back onto the swing over the hill and the wooden chairs around the outdoor fire pit. The location and environment is perfection.

The cocktails were all well prepared, crafted really but the favorite of the night was the tangerine mojito.

We had a large group and ordered all manner of appetizers and entrees. Our group shared, so I got to try a little of everything and everything was amazing. The favorites in the group was the tomahawk, the oysters and the eggplant.

Sadly, everyone in the group wanted the ice cream sandwiches for dessert, so we all got the same thing and nobody cried. It was quality ice cream between two giant chocolate chip cookies. Delicious!

Best restaurant and meal in Costa Rica so far and that is saying something because if you look to my other reviews, you will see that I eat out far to often.

If you are in the area of Nosara and miss this restaurant, I am sorry for you. You will have missed a gem in Guanacaste.

It’s one of the most unique and beautiful places I’ve ever been!!! We came from Tamarindo, the road was pretty difficult, but it worth it 10000%
Food and cocktails were amazing, the best that we tried in Costa Rica, trust me! Service was also great 👌🏻

Our favorite special dinner. Booked a 5pm reservation for a honeymoon dinner. This was the most special spot with a spectacular sunset. We got the eggplant appetizer, short ribs and burger along with the mezcal margarita and Negroni. Everything, especially the service, was 5 stars. The staff was kind and friendly and fun. The food was incredible! Two tips: book a sunset reservation as far in advance as you can and book a driver (NOT A TUK TUK) with 30-60 extra minutes to get up the mountain. It’s not a drive you’ll want to make yourself unless you’re used to the roads. There are no lights and it’s SUPER steep. All that said, this was our favorite evening together.

This was our last night in Costa Rica after 2 weeks. The view was amazing watching the sunset. Drinks, food was good, service was quick. My buddy got my plate which was the baby back ribs and he did enjoy them, Jonnie did say the ribs were very good. My short ribs were ok but I would have liked the Baby Back Ribs. My girlfriend had the steak. I had a small piece and it was absolutely amazing. I have to say it was the best steak I ever had in my life. It melted in your mouth. It was so good and the taste, the flavor was incredible.

Magical restaurant. The ambiance is awesome from the walk in past the open fire grills with crates full of fresh veggies to the amazing view out back.

We came around 3 in the afternoon and the view was magnificent. The service was great and the food was better.

The fresh bread with the trio of homemade dips was awesome.

WOW, where do I start?! We came to Coyol during our stay in Nosara and it was by far our favorite restaurant we ate at during our entire trip in Costa Rica. The road leading up to the restaurant was a bit rough but was certainly worth the trek! The food, cocktails and view are unmatched. We ordered the cheese plate, tomahawk steak, beef short rib and cookie sandwich for dessert and they were all delicious!! I'd recommend going at sunset, the view is breathtaking! We will definitely be back next time we're in Nosara!

Fantastic value for money. Same owners and chef as Bakery and La Luna. High standard, highly recommended. This is a great place for a date. I had the carpaccio and date had slow cooked ribs. Both were perfect! View is incredible too.

Great restaurant off the beaten path. Worth the 15 minute drive from Guiones beach/Nosara. The food and service was exceptional but still casual in a very unique location. Complete bar and scratch kitchen with super local fresh food. This is high end dining in a casual mountain top setting. Truly one of a kind that won’t be experienced any where else.

I am so grateful I made reservations at Coyol for our trip to Nosara. It was the highlight of our dining experiences in all of Costa Rica. My husband and I arrived just before sunset (4:30 in early December), and our waiter encouraged us to sip our cocktails on the mountainside while watching the sunset. See pics :) After sunset, we walked back to our table, and enjoyed multiple courses from Coyol’s fantastic menu. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. We had the house made bread (I can’t remember the name but it was similar to pita/flatbread, but better). I enjoyed a delicious vegetarian entree (butternut squash), while my husband devoured the “best steak he’s ever had”. 10/10 will go back again when we return to Nosara. Can’t recommend enough!! Family friendly too, if you have kids with you. :)

Having read a number of the middling reviews of the restaurant we arrived ready for anything and were very pleasantly impressed by both the food and the totality of the experience. From the enjoyable hard-scrabble drive up the mountainside, to the pleasant almost individualized greeting upon arrival, the friendliness of the wait staff, the very upscale but comfortable “farm-to-table” ambiance, the ability to amble about the groomed but rustic property while waiting for your meal, beverage in hand, while taking in the mountain-top panoramic ocean-view sunset from a tree-swing, lounging under a tree in comfortable plush seating… the occasional check-ins, too-ups, friendly banter - everything - perfect. As for the food - delicious, though I suspect (taking the negative/middling reviews into account) as with everything, some of it has to do with what you order. I had the Tomohawk steak, replete with garlic rosemary hand cut French fries, roasted tahini cauliflower crusted with roasted pistachios, homemade chimmichuri, and a delightful spring salad with a touch of balsamic, while other members of my party had the pasta, chicken and fresh fish of the day. Outstanding, each and every one. The menu is not extensive, but they do what they do extraordinarily well. Given that they are famed for their meat dishes, there are a surprising number of vegetarian/vegan options. And with fair pricing too boot. We will definitely eat there again, and look forward to it becoming a regular part of our dining rotation. Reservations are a must, and ask for the outside tables.
