I didn't realize that you could get free entry with a National Parks pass!
It was a lovely place to visit. So many neat exhibits and artifacts to see. The staff actors who played the roles of the inhabitants did a fabulous job explaining things to us. Would definitely go again!
I only wished they had marked the washrooms more clearly on the map! (There is one in the SE corner of the fort!)

I was a little unsure if I would be allowed in, the fort was built to keep out American's, but I was able to bribe the gate keeper enough I could get in with my Canadian friend LOL. The fort is a really nice historical area, well kept and very informative. The staff working there dress in period clothing and talk as if they work and live there, that part is more for the kids but I still enjoyed it. However I did ask some questions that the staff did not know, but being a retired archaeologist, I get that at a lot of places LOL. You have to check out the graffiti on the front gate, it was placed there by the soldiers that was stationed there in the mid 1800's. I really enjoyed my visit

A must to visit. 1.5hr guided tours available or go alone. Many original items on display for you to touch and smell a piece of Manitoba history. Multiple buildings that have been marvelously restored.

My family and I had a wonderful day here! We participated in the blacksmithing and bannock making activities and the instructors were so friendly and knowledgeable. We got to use a hammer and an anvil to create something from soft metal and stamp a medallion! The bannock is made in a cast iron pan over coals. It tasted so good with butter and jam. There are lots of things to see and do. My kids also liked playing croquet, touching the furs, and playing roles. They also just enjoyed running in the open grass which is well maintained. My eldest did the 'scavenger hunt' in the explorer booklet and at the end of the visit, went to the treasure chest to enter the code he deciphered and got a prize! He was so happy. I had many memories going to LFG as a kid (field trips and family outings) and I hope my kids have good memories too!

We had the most amazing time during my recent visit to Lower Fort Garry! The staff members were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, adding a personal touch to the entire experience. The historic houses were beautifully maintained, offering a glimpse into the past that was both fascinating and captivating. The meticulous upkeep of the grounds highlighted the dedication and care that goes into preserving this historical gem.

The on-site restaurant was a delightful surprise, with reasonable prices & tasted great. We had smiles on our faces the entire day. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Lower Fort Garry to all!!

Love taking our kiddos here to explore the well-preserved site of Lower Fort Garry. This is a national historic site that has just reopened with live interpreters dressed in mid-19th century costume. Currently, you are unable to go into any of the historical buildings but many of the contents are on display outside. Treaty One is 150 years old this year and there is a special activity set up around this. It's a beautiful way to spend 2-3 hours. Restrooms are open.

Cool place. Nice to spend some time with your kids.
We went there thinking it was going to be small like Fort Gibraltar and spent 2.5 hours learning story.

The last time I had been here was when I was a kid in the early 1980s. Had we not been affected by the pandemic, the buildings would have been open to the public. The main building, though, would have been closed anyway due to a water leak.

I really appreciated the great demeanor of the actors who were present to give us glimpses into the lives of the people who worked and resided in and around the fort.

My favourite part was hearing the cook tell us what drinks he made there (tea, hot chocolate and even coffee though that wasn't typical in the late 1800s). There's more but I suggest you visit the Fort to find out.

Went during the middle of the week in the summer so not many people around, which was okay by us. Always a great experience when we come here! The staff are informative and explained many things. The blacksmith made a nail for our out of town guests and pictures are welcomed! Love the history of Lower Fort Garry.

Plan to spend some time here. Take a picnic. Hang out on the grounds. It's dog-friendly, even in the buildings. Interpretive guides adopt characters. Play along. Many would do well in improv!

Highlights are the Blacksmith and the Bake House. Demos are frequent.

Obviously, a superb place to take kids. In 2017, admission is free. It will still be worth it when they charge again.

I love our national parks. They're always very well maintained and lower fort Garry was no different. Cheap entrance fees and the staff go out of their way to answer your questions and show you how something worked in the mid 1800s. They play the part as best as they can.

Despite not being able to enter buildings during Covid, Parks Canada has set up outdoor stations to share historical story and fact...actors are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The emphasis this year on Treaty 1 really helped me to want to learn more about our complicated history and the reality of the Indigenous experience from the time of the Treaties, and how it has affected their people. A beautiful spot, well worth the visit.

You can go on your own or have a Gide in each building that comes with a story. Very nice to go back in history.
