We stayed here over Christmas and the building was absolutely STUNNING! There was so much character in each of the common areas, and our room. Out room had everything we needed and the location was perfect.

We spent two nights at this location and were pleasantly impressed. The decor is absolutely fabulous and there are gorgeous sitting rooms and a solarium if you'd like to sit down for a while. It was very clean. The owners/proprietors are very good at keeping in touch. Very close to downtown and within walking distance of lots of restaurants and shops. Would definitely stay here again!

This was much better than I anticipated. It's not your typical hotel as they operate rooms in various scattered locations in Saint John so I wasn't sure of the quality. I stayed at the Sydney St location and the building itself is historic and has a sense of old time grandeur. My room was clean, unique, and well appointed. It's close to everything you need including restaurants. When I left, I also forgot something in my room and they actually emailed me about it so their honesty and service is duly noted.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Chipman Hill Sydney location. Beautiful Victorian Mansion in all its splendour. Wonderful place! I will most certainly stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and comfortable, and the entire building was so fun to look around. Even though the building is not staffed, we were happy with the level of communication we received before and during our stay. Great location for exploring St. John. Thanks for a great visit!

Very spacious upscale rooms with conveinences, outstanding customer service and a very convenient location a few minutes indoor (except about 30m) walk from the conference centre. Highly recommend! Will definitely stay here again if back in Saint John!

We got off to a bit of a bad start after a tiring journey when our booking confirmation sent us to a wrong address. But mistakes happen. It's how they are addressed that is important and the mistake was addressed promptly and fully. We have been here before. The establishment is a magnificent old mansion in downtown historic Saint John. It is within easy walking distance of the many shops and restaurants/pubs, a few parks and the waterfront. The room is elegant, functional and well equipped. We will be back.

This was an interesting and fun place to stay. We stayed there twice, and had good experiences both times, though I liked the second floor room better (security, street noise, water pressure and a weird layout in unit 1). The property is beautifully restored and the sitting rooms and solarium are lovely. The rooms have a small refrigerator and 2 burner stove, as well as cable television. More outlets near the beds would be an improvement, but this is an old house, and there were plenty of outlets around the room. Both rooms had nice beds and furnishings, lots of room, and an eclectic selection of books to read. I liked this lodging arrangement much better than a standard (generic) hotel room. A very pleasant stay!

This place is amazing, especially for the price! My husband and I stayed in one of their rooms for three nights. The building is very cute and old, a bit scary at first when you walk it because it's so hot, but the individual air conditioner in our room worked perfectly - it was even on when we arrived so our room was nice and cool. It's not often hotels give that level of service. The room is cute, sure the decor is a bit dated, oven is a little old, but honestly, it has such a nice feel to it (I think they're aiming to maintain the historic feel of the town/building - so great)! The process of waiting to hear where we would be staying was off-putting at first, but it turned out to be great! This location is fantastic, nice and close to the market and restaurants. Highly recommend Chipman Hill Suites for anyone visiting Saint John!!

We stayed at the 71 Sydney St. location the first week of July 2018. This was the perfect spot for us. The location was exceptional for the activities we had planned. The room itself was lovely, very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Having access to the living areas of the house, including the solarium where we had our morning coffee, was a real bonus. In addition, the Chipman Hill personnel we had dealings with were extremely helpful and friendly, making us feel like our comfort was their prime consideration. Our entire experience with this company was exceptional and I would highly recommend this location for those visiting St John.

It was a very interesting stay, beautiful old building. We stayed in the suite #1 which is downstairs since we were traveling with our 7 months daughter and it was convenient not to walk up the stairs. If you want peace and quietness that hotel is not for you because you can hear when people walk in the house. I personally don’t mind, for me it’s part of the old building vibe. Everything was very clean and the housekeepers are sooo nice!!

What a wonderful stay. Comfortable beds, pillows, very clean, and a beautiful historic building with a sun room, common rooms to sit, converse, play piano, and play chess. Shannon, the housekeeper, left a note on our bed to let us know if we needed her, we could find her in the building from 9-5, and a phone number to get in touch with her on off duty hours. We came to St John to see a dear family member in a time of need, and Chipman hill suites couldn't have made things easier or more comfortable. Thanks a million!

We spent two nights at the Chipman Hill Suites when we stayed in Saint John for a family wedding. The staff were exceptionally helpful and went above and beyond to make our trip amazing. Our room was clean and very comfortable, exactly what we needed for a busy weekend. The location cannot be beat - we were a ten minute walk from everything we wanted to see and do in Uptown Saint John. I highly recommend staying in the Chipman Hill Suites.

A unique experience in travel lodging

I have traveled all over the world and our experience at Chipman Hills Suites – 71 Sidney St property was unique. Our ground floor suite, located in the 1890 former mayor of Saint John home, was like nothing else I have ever experienced. We were there only four days, but I could easily imagine staying for months. The kitchen area of our two-room suite had everything you could want to cook and serve meals for two or more. Each room was finely decorated. Most importantly the bed was very comfortable.

I can’t leave out the common areas. There are several common areas that can be used by the guest. There was a Parlor, a sitting room, dining room and a sunroom. All finely decorated in the period of the building. On occasion when I encounter other guest there was a community feeling as we all experienced the common areas. It was as if we were guest of a family friend.

On a practical note, there is a free laundry complete with laundry detergent provided on the second floor. It was adjacent to a comfortable sitting area complete with a small book shelf with books for the guest to share. Also, there is a building wide WIFI system.

The cost is competitive with any hotel in Saint John. With something like this available, why would you stay any place else.

Chipman Hill Suites…This is where you want to stay when visiting Saint John.

I know ‘Hilton’ and ‘Delta’ and ‘Château’ look tempting but you’re not going to have anywhere near as memorable an experience as you will with Chipman Hill Suites in the heart of one of Canada’s most charming cities. Here’s why:

Firstly, my suite was far cheaper than any of the big-name hotels I mentioned above. Secondly, the service I received, both from Shayrha by telephone (with whom I booked my stay), and from Amanda, who welcomed me warmly upon my arrival showing me around the common areas of the 1895 mansion at 71 Sydney Street. And thirdly the proximity to the city (5 minute walk) allows you to be more than just a ‘guest in a hotel in an unfamiliar city’. You will feel just like the fine citizens who reside here in the oldest incorporated city in Canada.

The hotel, is a stunning Victorian-era mansion and it, as well as the surrounding neighbourhood is as quiet as you could want (So much so, in fact, that that the ticking of my wall clock became disruptive to me and I was compelled to remove the batteries to silence it haha). My king-size bed was the most comfortable I’ve lain in at any time in my life and the linens and comforters were more than sufficient for the snowy nights in Port City. It was a nice touch having a separate sitting room in my suite. I used this for morning coffee, afternoon naps, and putting my feet up in the evenings.

Reviews and feedback are very important to Chipman Hill and you are politely reminded of this from time to time during your stay. First, on the phone with reservations, I was made aware that I would be asked to write a small review. Then when I checked in, I was presented with a small, clean envelope containing a sheet with a short paragraph requesting feedback, and another sheet with directions describing how to post to Trip Advisor. The owners and managers make it very clear that they want to be judged, and moreover they’ve worked hard to create a level of professionalism, service, and hospitality which makes them confident that you’ll be pleased.

Chipman Hill Suites is not just another hotel. You can basically go anywhere to be called ‘sir’ or ‘madam’ and have your bags carried down a long, boring, taupe-coloured hallway to a cold, just-like-the-rest room, where you lay on the bed watching bad tv, ordering-in franchise food, and wishing you weren’t staying so far away from city-culture. Chipman Hill Suites is on a whole other level and just minutes from lovely restaurants, friendly pubs, and amiable, real people.

Come here to relax. Come here to visit a gorgeous city. Come here to recharge. Come here to be inspired, enchanted, impressed, and earnestly connected. You will feel more welcome than you expect.

My favorite place to stay in Saint John - beautiful, comfortable, and spacious rooms. The historic buildings make it seem very special and the furthest thing from a cookie cutter hotel room. Convenient location; the building was within walking distance to everything we needed. The staff was very friendly.

We had an emergency trip to St John NB and Chipman Hill at 76 Union Street in St John NB was so accommodating for 3 couples from Nova Scotia ---family. We couldn't have found a finer accommodation for a
short stay . The two ladies making sure we were personally looked after---Josie and Amanda---were kind and helpful. This Victorian style building
was so awesome in that although it is modernized for a short or longer stay , the era of the time was beautifully maintained . Thanks!!!!

I’ve stayed at the Sydney street location I think 4 times now. I love it there, I always make a point to stay there at least one night when I visit home. If you’re into really neat old buildings this is for you! One of my favourite spots in the city.

I've stayed here multiple times and it's been fantastic each time. I love how much character the rooms and buildings have and it's very obvious the tremendous amount of care and thought that goes into the rooms. Great value and locations.

From what i have experience with the staff and the people who have stayed there in the past say that this is a very cozy place and the service is great. You can certainly say that you can feel at home in here. Myself personally have never stayed overnight but i have been in a few of their facilities and the places is very clean and well kept. The prices are very good and its well worth the star in my opinion
