Ghost Lake Recreations

This is another very cool place near Calgary (One hour drive) where families or friends can enjoy boating, fishing, bone fire, camping and swimming. Pits are also pre-installed for BBQ. Parking facilities available on site. You can find some woods around for bone fire. Restrooms are also there. Natural environment and in summer motor-houses are also available to stay overnight.

Ghost Lake Reservoir is one of many recreational opportunities near Calgary. It's less than 1 hour drive 59 km. / 37 miles to the west of the city. It's a man-made lake formed in 1929 for power generation. The water level fluctuates somewhat due to the power station. It has strong winds which makes it good for sailing and ice boating. The lake freezes in December and is used for both summer and winter recreation. There is a campground with pit toilet facilities. I visited friends in Calgary, and they drove me out there for a day trip with the family, including grandma and two young children. My beautiful day experience was 5-star, but you should read other reviews mentioning loud campground parties with maybe too much booze. To me, it all looked very nice, and everyone was having fun on a nice breezy June afternoon.

Awesome place!there's no water when we we're there, but we enjoyed the place regardless, a short hike and a little bit of fishing and some waterfun, plus the wonderful stargazing at night and fireworks is allowed 🎉

One of the nicest lakes in Alberta. Gets super busy and it’s also filled with boaters, paddle boarders, and kayaks. Super fun and for all ages. The water is pretty cold year round so not the best swimming lake but it’s clean and is good for a quick plunge.

What a marvellous place! We have launched the houseboat. Once we got out on the reservoir we found a great place to for the night. Stunning!

Beautiful lake and campsite across the lake.

You can't have much more fun than putting your vehicle on the lake in the winter. There are a couple of tracks set up if you want to try sliding your car around a n ice track. Or ice fish the weekend away. A truly great way to spend a day or weekend.

Recreation is the best word for this place. Overnight camping with fire pits, beautiful lake for boating or fishing, and a nice place to enjoy the sun and have some fun. Quite popular though so that could be a drawback.

Got to do some drifting on the frozen lake and was absolutely the best time ever

Great for paddleboarding and close to the city, crisp blue waters.

Best lake experience close to Calgary. Great for boats or kayaks and paddleboards. Not too cold these days.
