Restaurante e Bar Garota de Ipanema

Visited for lunch since it was nearby, and we discovered it's the place that inspired the iconic "Girl from Ipanema" song. The service had a friendly vibe, and the food was satisfying. My favorite was the crab claws.

At this place the song “Garota de Ipanema” was written. The bar used to be called as “Bar Veloso” but was named after the song composed by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes became famous. It is a very nice place in the Ipanema neighbourhood and the staff (despite to seems not friendly) were very professional and attentive. We’ve ordered a chicken with cheese, which was huge with a lot of cheese on top of it, very delicious. We only missed the rice in the portion. Also a portion of “frango a passarinho” (fried chicken in small pieces) also great. Chopp was amazing. Price good, easy access and well located. Worth for the history, for the moment and for the food.

We stopped in for a quick Picanha lunch with some beer. Food, the meat was outstanding. Perfect portion size. It wasn't busy at all. We came with Portuguese speakers, not sure how well the staff knows English. Clean bathrooms. Good price.

Third visit here, been when busy and when quiet. Exceptional food, fantastic service and at great prices.
Combine that with the history of the place and 'the girl from Ipanema' and it is the place to visit for a nice meal and drink.

Legendary restaurant, where the classic song "Girl From Ipanema" was composed. Of course that was my main reason for going there, but the restaurant was very good. They serve typical Brazilian delicacies. I thought with it being a tourist trap, it would be very expensive but the prices were good. It's in a great location in the heart of Ipanema, about 1 block from the beach. Waitstaff did not speak any English but they try their best to accomodate you. A must visit if you're a music fan.

The service was really good even as we had trouble understanding Portuguese. We had a fried fish, filet mignon and grilled chicken. They were all good. Portions were big enough to share.

Amazing food, the feijoada is so well served. Cold beer and incredible service. The waiters do make the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend it!

An absolute classic. I'm from Brazil, but not from Rio. I've come to the city close to 20 years and always find a way to get the 'Picanha no Rechaud' whenever I can. Oh, and you gotta get the draft beer (choppe), as with any of these spots.

Service isn't bad and not necessarily the best, but it's almost part of the charm as many have been there for many years. You still feel attended to and food arrives fairly quickly. Just don't expect it to feel super fancy, it's not.

Sure, you might find cheaper options other places, although it's not always easy to find those spots around the neighborhood.

But this is a must visit because of its history within Ipanema and Rio. You'll understand what I mean when you get there.

We repeated this restaurant many times. My husband loved picaña and I always take the Moqueca with coconut milk. The caipirinhas are amazing! The service great.

Fantastic place to have lunch or dinner. Picanha is awesome, a must if it's the first time there. Good price, around 200 reais per each picanha for two people. It's said that Vinicius de Moraes composed The girl from Ipanema.

Excellent place with a lot of history. Food was very good. We had the Brazilian steak is delicious and for 2 persons. The house speciality fish is an excellent choice and very tasty as well. We had the papaya cream as desert and guava with cheese. Definilty worth a visit while your there. Only thing I suggest to change is the side dish with the Brazilian steak, very mediocre rice and fries.

UPDATE: we came back on Sunday for late lunch; the Caipirinha Magnífica is truly the best ever…. The empanadas appetizer, the Filet Mignon was truly special and the Service super proper, truly professional and Caring. This is the Temple of Bossa Nova

Saturday evening: Visiting from Miami; went for drinks. Truly the BEST Caipirinha ever. Get the Magnifica Caipirinha. They serve it at the table and shake it there. The grilled parilla Picanha is also yummy. Very professional staff and it’s the actual place where Tom Jobin and Vinicious de Moraes wrote The Girl from Ipanema. The photos are fantastic.

There was a lineup when we got there but the wait was not tooo long. Like a few tables before us and we got a table in 10 mins. The steak platter was amazing and its good for 2 people. The service is also very quick. I had their sangria and it was literally like drinking apple juice. Was disappointed but their food made up for it. If you are in rio deff check out this place. Its worth it!!

100% loved this place will go again before leaving Brasíl. They are so attentive and servicing. A+++

Fantastic food, atmosphere and service, outstanding quality grilled Picanha, cold refreshing beer, reasonable prices, year after year this restaurant is still our favourite place to go after a morning on the beach!

Update: We came here for the second time to try fish - sea bass with shrimp sauce. It was average. Better to stay with picanha.

What's not to love about this new restaurant other than that its not closer to me. The staff if courteous. The food is tasty and the drinks are well balanced. I cant wait for this spot to open up their upstairs and extend hours of operation. They have the potential to be the new it spot.

Big portions so share different dishes with people great local flavors!
