Very nice location for a walk along the sea shore and visit to the museum. Has wonderful views of the Copacabana beach, you can go there for the restaurants only, if you'd rather. Also has areas where you can sit and enjoy the views.

It's for sure the most underrated, unknown place to visit in Rio: between Copacabana and Ipanema; even if you don't care about the historical importance of the site; just the cafes, the restaurant; the table with best view to Copacabana worth to drop down. 2 USD entrance fee. Just Perfect !

If you're looking for a unique and historical experience, this Fort is a great place to spend an evening. While it's a bit too commercialized for my taste, there's something undeniably romantic about dining along the wall while taking in the stunning sunset and breathtaking views.

Although the Museum is self-guided and only in Portuguese, I found that Google Translate made it easy to understand and appreciate the exhibits. From the fort's vantage point, you'll be treated to a panoramic view of the beach and surrounding mountains. Standing on an attraction that played a significant role in history is truly an awe-inspiring experience.

Overall, if you're a history buff or just looking for a unique evening out, this Fort is worth a visit. The views alone are worth it.

Ft Copacabana is a little-known Rio attraction with lots of history. Located at the tip of Copacabana, the former fort that once protected the bay is now a military museum which also hosts cafes on its site. You can walk through and on top the fort and witness the massive cannons. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon.

A nice place to visit for a view of Copacabana beach, some lunch, and a visit to the historic fort. I recommend to go during the week as it was very very busy on the weekend.

Great walk around the Fort. You can learn a little history and military work.
There are a few museums, cafes, and great view points for Ipanema and Copacabana. It's safe to walk around alone. There is a ticket that you must purchase at the entrance but I can't remember how much it was. I think only a couple of dollars.

A place worth visiting!

There is a pavilion with a history museum (permanent and temporary exhibitions), a restaurant, a cafe, a souvenir shop and an original fortification on top of which there are defensive cannons and ... beautiful views of Copacabana.

Price 6 reais. Free on Tuesdays.

Sightseeing from 1 hour to 2 hours - depending on your curiosity.

This is 1 of 6 forts.

(Review from December 2022, but reappeared as new after removing some photos)

A great historical fort to visit during your trip to Copacabana… A stroll down to the end of the beach. You can buy the tickets at the window and walk inside the halls for a walk down to the historical importance of this place. Has amazing views of the beach and some great eateries. At the end of the fort, you get to go on top of the canons for a beautiful view of the south Atlantic Ocean.

I had a free couple of hours one of our days here so I made sure to stop here. I am so glad I did. The grounds are beautiful and it has some of the most beautiful views and best views of Copacabana. The museum is also really nice and cool to walk around. Plan for a little line to get in but it moves very quickly. The grounds were packed with people and tons of people eating and drinking with a great view.

Although there is a line up in front and I was told the line up is for breakfast... But actually going into the Fort needs lining up too! After the waiting, I took out my card (and subsequently USD) to pay for entrance fee, but only local currency is allowed! The friendly staff (army force) saw my situation and gave me a free pass ❤❤🥰! Thank you for being flexible and understanding.

The Fort is very clean and well kept! Grateful to learn the location's history (thanks for Google translate).

A morning well spent!

There are 2 heavy guns cupolas: 305 and 190 mm. They are the only remaining heavy fortress Krupp-made cupolas in the world.
The fort was completed in 1914. You can walk inside and observe the magazines and the gun-loading machinery.
The fort also hosts an artillery park where you can find late XIX and early XX artillery pieces.
Fort terrace hosts an outdoor cafe from where you can take decent pictures of Rio's coastal line.
Don't miss: well worth the fee collected.

Such a beautiful place to sit with friends, have tea and watch the sunset. If you’re looking to find a seat at the Colombo Cafe I’d definitely place your name down because it does fill up quickly.

There's a fee of about $2 but its wirth it. Theres restaurants inside, the fort has plenty of exhibits that will tell the history of Brazil. There are some areas where you can just sit, relax and enjoy the breeze from the sea.

Cool Fort. Amazing views of Copacabana. The real reason to come here is to go to Cafe 18 do Forte and have breakfast sat outside under the trees overlooking Copacabana beach. It’s a fun thought to explore but won’t take you that long. A star is definitely the breakfast outside.

It is a great place to visit if you are a tourist and an even better place to chill if you are a local. Great views of Copacabana and Leme. Good food options. What's not to like! You will be a hero among your friends if you lead them here and show them around.
