Bar Lagoa

A classic restaurant in Rio, opened since the 30’s at least, when it was called the German Bar - has to change its name during the World War II. Serves good steaks. We had the Oswaldo Aranha, it was very good and tasty. The portion was good for two - R$105. The tap beer was R$9. Loved the uniform of the waiters, very classy and the service was very good. Most customers were over 50yo, which also shows how classic this space is. Overall a great experience, but not for the budget traveler.

Great place to drink draft beers (chopp) and eat a Milanesa à Figueiredo ( Beef Milanesa with potato salad), the portion has a good size, enough for a two persons sharing plus an entrance. Excellent service and the prices are ok.

Great classic lunch spot in Rio. Old fashioned and unassuming, but with great service, good food and a traditional vibe to it.

Here’s what you should order: file Figueiredo (milenesa), arroz pimontese and Romeu Julieta for dessert. The meals serves 2-3 people. You will not regret it.

Great potato salad and filet aperitivo. The bolinho de bacalhau was nice. The chopp os a classic at this classic bar.

The food and service is good. Beef was a bit overcooked, but still nice. However, be aware, they do not accept international cards. Bring a Brazilian payment card or cash.

It is a very traditional place full of beauty and good things. Once upon a time they were famous for their architectural beauty (art deco) and good food but the grumpiness of their staff. My latest visits proved it is wrong: staff was brilliant - friendly and efficient whilst all remain the same: beautiful and delicious. Last visit in August I went alone and I ordered a chopp (garoto size) without food and no problem! I was served by an excellent "garcon" (sorry, I didn't get his name). This is unfortunately rare in Rio. Some establishments demand consumption. Viva Bar Lagoa!

Bar Lagoa is a Rio de Janeiro tradition. Very pleasant atmosphere, laid back place, located in one of the city's nicest areas. Great snacks, good draught beer and good food, too.

One of the best places in Rio to eat with a view of the Cristo Redentor through the Lagoa de Freitas. Food is excellent with a German influence. Must eat the Milanesa with potato salad. No pricey compared to most of the places in Ipanema. The old waiters sometimes moody are an institution of Rio.

Bar Lagoa is one of the most traditional bars in Rio. Bar Lagoa's original name was Bar Adolf, but during World War 2 they changed the name to Bar Lagoa.

Famous for the chopp (draft beer), steak and cheese sandwich, german food, family atmosphere and the bad mood of the waiters. Their mood is only bad if one is neither a regular customer nor a friend of a regular customer.

If you go there (you should), ask to sit on one of Gomes' tables and tell him that I (Marcos Colagrossi) suggested you to go there and look for him. Gomes will take good care of you. If it is Gomes' day off, you will be welcomed anyway.

Go during the evening, they open for lunch but you don't wanna have lunch there. Prices are moderate and food is good if you know what not to order. Never order pizza, for example. My favorites are the steak and cheese sandwich and white or red sausages with potato and mayo salad.

It's as traditional as it can get. Bar Lagoa is the only remaining German bar opened in Ipanema. Opened it's doors before Ipanema was a trendy place.

Built in the 30's in art-deco style, has some old pictures of Ipanema from yesteryears... Probably they serve one of the best draft 🍺 in town.

Considerate one of the most trendy places in Rio. You find local artists and writers there regularly....

Excellent food, great service, breathtaking views of the Sugar Loaf hill and of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

It's an old, almost historical (circa 1940) pub that looks as good as new. Has a typical "carioca" atmosphere.
