Dark Magician Games

First met Shaun when I was just a kid getting into playing 40k with my Dad and brothers. We'd heard of a little store in Ipswich selling what we were after, so off to the old Underworld Games we went and were met with a big smile and even though we'd never met before he treated us all like he'd known us for a lifetime. We spent a lot of time just hanging out at Underworld playing Warhammer and MTG and just chatting and we all thought you were one of the nicest and coolest guys out there, and coming up on 20 years later, with all of the crazy things that go on in the world it's good to know some things never change. As much as I wish I could have dropped by more often over the years it's good to know that you're still there despite all the hurdles, and still the friendliest guy.

One of the most relaxed hobby stores I've been too. If you are after friendly, knowledgeable staff and a good selection of products then this is the store for you. Convinent parking (free on weekends) just across the road and a lovely diner just a few shops away makes this retail gem worth visiting.

This store is amazing. I've read through the reviews and cannot even fathom the bad reviews. I stop by every now and again and every time I am greeted with nothing but kindness and care. The stores owner is always ready to show me new things that I am interested in. Even if I come by just to stop in and say hi I never feel pressured to by anything, in-fact it makes me feel like I'm talking to a friend about new releases. Has great and reasonable prices for things that are stocked. As a woman it's also very comforting to know that all genders are equally represented there. The store is very hearty and has plenty of character and personality. Definitely recommend talking to the store owner and learning about the different campaign that run on Tuesday nights.

Dark Magician Games in Ipswich is an absolute gem! I've been a loyal customer for years, and I can't say enough about this fantastic family-owned establishment. They offer a wide range of products, and if they don't have something in stock, they'll go above and beyond to get it for you.

What truly sets them apart is their incredible staff: Sean, Cassy, Alex, and other staff. They are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly generous with their time. They're always willing to explain things and walk you through any questions you might have. I've participated in both Yugioh tournaments and DND campaigns here, and they were patient, helpful, and genuinely welcoming.

Fantastic store ! I had a great experience coming to the store for the first time to play Yu-Gi-Oh - The owner and staff were more than willing to help and advise me when I had questions about the store/products and were very encouraging toward the players ! I even saw some youngsters getting (proper) help learning the game from the more experienced players. Incredible community and kind people 🙏

The place is amazing, Owner (Shaun) has been nothing but welcoming and has offered amazing amounts of advice and support for Magic the Gathering. The community is amazing and the store is cheaper than most stores in the Ipswich area and outer area. Will definitely return.

If you’re looking for a friendly and welcoming place to spend your time, then this is it. After recently getting into some new hobbies such as YuGiOh, Warhammer and Magic, I went to this store to purchase some stock and both Shaun and Cassie were very helpful. The overall atmosphere of the place is super comforting and nice to be in. They both are very patient and informative. They took their time to explain to me and teach me different aspects of the hobbies I was getting into, and helped me to buy the correct things so that I could join in on the fun. I wish I could give you guys 10 starts, you rock!

I come here at least once a fortnight to play different games with other like-minded people. They offer mostly Warhammer (AOS, 40k, Kill teams, Heresy), DnD, Magic of the Gathering & Yugioh. Absolutely friendly store with 10/10 service and friendly regulars who are always looking for a game!

Dark magician is an amazing place, it has a friendly atmosphere. All the players are welcoming to new people and it was what really got me into yugioh and D and D. Shoutout to Shaun and Cassie, they have a lot of stories to tell and are very friendly. They feel like real people not just a host. The parking is very convenient and being able to order food and have it delivered to you at the store is really cool. Overall a brilliant shop or veterans and beginners alike.

Shaun is an amazing and friendly store owner. Family buisness where most of your wargame needs can be met. Many collectables in store to purchase. Regular games and card nights and competitions with prizes. Your never a stranger in this store.

Shaun's an awesome owner. I've been going for years and, while I stopped a bit through covid, still have fond memories of getting into warhammer through the Only War RPG hosted at the old Ipswich store. I hope to come back again and get back into some tabletop games! Great for all your 40k, MTG, hobbyist needs. You will love the friendly and inviting community!

Owner clearly cares about his player base. Very casual. But it works for the players there.

Some of these reviews seem a bit harsh and personal.
The first time I visited, the restrictions were taking place and everybody had to use the queensland app to sign in, but I didn't have it yet.
Shaun and his partner helped me find and download the app I needed, and I am still using the app.
On another occasion, I visited just to browse some cards, and while I did that, I noticed that Shaun had his lunch un-eaten on a nearby table, the reason: customers kept walking in to talk to him and he wouldn't leave them unattended!
The man is trying to run a small business, does anyone even understand how difficult it is to do something like this, and during a pandemic to boot?
Shaun is an interesting man who likes to talk about the games he runs in the store almost as much as the players themselves, and I can see that he is very much a player at heart, so the passion he has for this job is uncommon if not rare!
Compared to other magic stores I have visited in the last 15 years (goodgames brisbane, Acecomics and Games, Wicked Games, Magic realm), i have had nothing but good impressions!
