The Vanilla Slice Cafe Sorrento

The vanilla cake was texture and extremely soft test a lot of custard cream ,but ,is not very sweet ,the size is huge can share with two people. The location is just near the beach from 5 mins walk ,we take away than sit in the beach enjoyed the view .

Vanilla slice is $10 each - serving is large enough to share between two people.

Plenty of outdoor seating with a mix of shade/sun. Perfect spot for morning/arvo tea.

Staff are friendly, service is prompt.

The place is not as big and it is exactly the same set up as 14 years ago when I tried the first time. It is still one of the best Vanilla Slice and I can pick not more than 2 places in Victoria 🏆 as good as this one. The view and the ambiance is nice as usual.

Recently a panel of judges sampled 590 baked goods from 143 Aussie bakeries over a two day event. Australia's best vanilla slice was awarded to Shepparton's North End Bakehouse. I strongly disagree with their decision and think this iconic Sorrento establishment should’ve won! 💛

Drove 1 1/2 hr here just for the Vanilla Slice. Didn’t disappoint us. Coffee is great too.

Still one of the best vanilla slice to date in Melbourne. Crispy pastry and not too sweet vanilla custard that all we've could asked for. We tried the spinach quiche as well which was delicious. Also had ordered a cup of Magic, it was perfect. Would be easy to recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Hubby had a lovely Birthday Treat with the famous Vanilla Slice. We have been here countless times and never disappointment. Great food and great service by the staffs👍 Vanilla Slice is nice, puff pastry is crispy (not soggy), custard/moose was not overly rich. Goes down well with tea or your fav cup of coffee ☕

I was cruising along the coast just outside Melbourne over the weekend, when I arrived in a cute village called Sorrento (I ❤ 🇮🇹).

Nestled in main street Sorrento with a limestone façade and old-fashioned charm, I found a café called The Vanilla Slice Café. It looked like it’s straight out of the Edwardian era. The vanilla slice is said to be completely out of this world: ”One taste and you’ll think your grandma was behind the counter.”

No doubt, I had to try this “world famous” vanilla slice. I find it very interesting that a café has its own “piece de resistance”. On top, I ordered an Aussie-style flat white and took both down to the beach 🏖(the coffee in my reusable Huskee cup).

Sitting in the warm sand 🏝 with my feet 👣 in the water 💦, I enjoyed both to the fullest. The vanilla slice was creamy, sweet, but not too sweet, rich, and smooth. The flat white was also super creamy, and the espresso ☕ cut well through the rich milk 🥛. It is very interesting for a Swiss 🧀, to drink and enjoy Australian milk. I have to say, Australia 🇦🇺 produces some of the tastiest milk I ever drank in my life.

They should forecast that the weekends are busier than normal and make extra vanilla slices.
I have made my way to the cafe on sunday and they were out of vanilla slices ! We were a family of 3 dissapointed cookies !

I can understand why other people feel over priced and gave poor score. The slice is too big for one person.
I wouldn't ordered it if I wasn't here with my friend and have one piece to share.
The taste actually very good. Rich cream texture but light in fat. Not over sweet but just the nature Vanilla flavour.
My recommendation to the business is to cut the size and the price in half so people can at lease willing to taste the first bite and fall in live with it.
It would be also nice if you can bundle the slice with a coffee for $9.6(4.8 + 4.95 separatly)

I've been a patron for decades.

Drove there from Ascot Vale, twice in a week, specially for their vanilla slice. It was heaven! I would rate this easily the best vanilla slice I had in Melbourne (my other favourites are: Bedford Coffee Co. Ringwood and Elwood Patisserie & Bakery). Its creamy vanilla custer is second to none - not too sweet, smooth and don't weight you down. You won't regret having it.

One of the best in sorrento, we visited the place last week and had our brunch/ brekky and i must say the food was great. Relish the relish, they make very tasty relish sauce and the avo was delicious with a touch of mint. Everything was good. Would definitely come back guys.
