Excellent overnight stay, shame amenities out of order. Nice spot overlooking the river with people camped on the other side.
The Historical Village n Cafe an extra bonus.

This is a lovely one or two (max) night stopover. We stopped on the higher northern which overlooks the lower side. The northern side is preferred if there's a chance of rain and it is grassier and less dusty. The toilet block was closed but there is a temporary one in it's place.

One of the best ever free camps.
Oh - and I lost my Covid mullet due to a travelling hairdresser.
But honestly a free camp with toilets be the river only a few km from town.
On Sunday some local kids driven by mum drove around selling bags of firewood (I have an electric chainsaw) but we purchased two bags - support the community but best ever Wood for $10 a large bag.
Free camping both sides of the river. Maybe 120 vans here- 60 each side of river but heaps of space so no one is close.
Just a fantastic camp!

Amazing place to stop up for a couple of days. Large areas, plenty for all rigs etc. Toilets, campfire, pets, fishing, waking..... swimming apparently when there's no crocs....

Will be back

Lovely free grassy camping spot on the North Side. Right on the river. Get in early if you want river views.Temporary toilets where clean. Did not really hear the road noise.

Great stopover for 1 night, would definitely use it again. Walking up to the museum the next morning to be greeted by very friendly volunteer staff for a nice coffee. The museum was definitely worth browsing through too

Have stayed in this camp spot 3 times now, and everytime it has been such a great quiet place to pull up and settle for a day or 2 and break up the long drives and relax. Camping on both north and south side of the river with toilets on both sides, nice calm river, dog on leash allowed, mobile reception, small town 5 Kcs south for topping up essentials, train museum on the north side, just a really nice place, I will always stop at either heading north or back south.

Beautiful kept rest stop. Quiet and stunning opportunity to sleep the night next to the river. Toilets are clean and regular checks by the police.

How good is this, your choice, up high on North side, or river level on south side both crackn spots. Must be self contained and get in early, cause it fills up.

Absolutely a beautiful place to relax. It's a pity that the drop toilets weren't a little cleaner but it's a nice walk to the other ones. Not crowded this weekend and what great weather for it.

One of my favourite free camps. I'm incouraged by the fact that the council no longer sends a security person around to take photos of number plates in an attempt to ensure you only stayed 48 hours. On the upper level (Bruce Highway side) of the river, there are toilets and t the area is well maintained however, unless you get there early you won't get a spot. The lower level on the other side of the river is very basic but it also gives the opportunity to get close to the water. Calloipe township is a growing little community with good shopping facilities. Gladstone is less than 20 kms away and has everything. A very popular free camp which I highly recommend.

Love this free campsite, although south side is a bit dusty lately with the strong winds blowing straight up the river
