Calliope South Campsite

Spent a couple of nights on the river. Off grid set-up. Managed to catch a few fish. Toilets on site and bins.

We camped and stayed for two nights. Locals supplied the firewood, which was wonderful. We had campoven dinners both nights. The bridge was great to fish off, and it was nice to have a paddle out in my kayak, but I was still mindful of crocodiles. We met a lot people here from all walks of life, and the only thing we had in common was travelling Australia's backyard.

Spacious clean manicured free rest stop. Pulled up just after dark and managed to easily find a spot to set up the swag for the night. No lighting in the area though. Cicadas were very noisy about 450am enough to make you up.

River was a great sight to wake up to the following morning. Has all the makings of a paid camp ground except its free :)

2nd time here, amazing place to rest up and relax. Plenty of people fishing on the old road. Pity the toilets are no longer open. Great spot 👍

Right on the river fishing, canoeing, paddle borders, pets aloud. Toilets are far away but flushable. You can get drinking water in calliope at the caravan dump point. At night insects can be bad. Locals come done to river and are always happy for a chat. Thankyou calliope council great place.

Really good free camp site ! Loads of open ground right next to the river with a small boat ramp toilets and benches for picnics, good over night spot

A top spot accessible for all setups. Felt safe and loved the views.

When travelling north which is at least 4 x times a year, we always stop hear. The bird songs in the morning is amazing, pity that there is crocodiles in the River. The toilets are flush toilets, and there is a fresh water tap on the outside of the toilet block to fill up your water supplies, all this is free. And mobile reception. What's not to love.

Free and great location. Perfect for overnight camping, both tent and camper van

Top little stopover on your travels, throw a line, set a pot or take a swim.
Free temporary campsite with toilet block, a bit of a walk from from the river areas but at least they are their and maintained.
Family friendly, dog friendly on old Bruce hwy at River Ranch.

Beautiful spot for free camping the public toilets were working, unfortunately the north sides were out of action due to vandalism. Very well maintained grounds.

My go to stop over when driving along the Qld east coast ... great place to unwind...swimming and fishing great water way 👌

Nice and quiet it's free 48hrs good fishing on the south side north side you got the weekend markets you can work from south side to north side
