We were lucky to find the church open after we had walked from the very historic Richmond Bridge. This church and cemetery are all part of the history of the Richmond area and well worth extending the walk from the bridge to see the cemetery and at least the exterior of the church.

Visiting Australia's oldest Catholic church is an AMAZING experience! And no visit to Tasmania is complete without a trip to Richmond to visit the St John the Evangelist church. It is an exquisite and sacred space, and you can really feel the presence of God when you walk into it. And in a personal aside: I proposed to my fiancée here on January 5th, 2018, so that's how much the place moved me!!!

Edit: We also got married in this self same church on 19.10.19 with the wonderful Father Terry doing the honours. LOVE THIS CHURCH!
