Can not rate Mutton Bird Island Beach high enough. It's the perfect place for little kids and big kids. I've been taking my kids there since they were toddlers. We Albany visit from elsewhere, but always make room for a trip to Muttom Bird. I had 1 child that loves water and 1 that hated it. Mutton Bird has an extended sand bar thing into the water, so it's shallow for around 20m before a decent drop off. My water loving child can frollick and play in the shallow, while the dry land child builds sand castles in pristine sand, or climbs the rocks around the base of the hill. And as they get older they can head out into the drop off, or even around the bend to the rest of the beach where some amount of swell comes in. There's a lot of stairs to make it down to the beach, so do consider that. I've been told there's a drop loo somewhere, but I don't remember it. The car park is gravel, but well kept. And the road out there is all bitumen.

A must for those who love to catch salmon, surf, camp and four wheel drive. Be cautious and let your tyres down to 18-20psi as THE BEACH IS EXCEPTIONALLY SOFT so take a friend or recovery gear. There are usually a few locals around, like me ✌, who will offer to help out if you do get stuck. In winter the river mouth opens and the area floods, it's known as flood gates you get a great sucky barrel up here. Camping at floodgates is still available and one of the only camp grounds near muttonbird apart from the cosy corner campground. Always show respect to others, the ocean and the beach and have fun peace's y'all ✌☮😎

The city of Albany have really improved the area for visitors, functional toilets, easy access to the beach, great for fishing , swimming , surfing and meets the Bibbulmun track so handy for hikers as well.
The beach is super soft and regularly strands 4x4's.

Mutton Bird island is an amazing place to visit in the great Southern. The beach is beautiful for a walk or a swim and if you are really game - you can swim to the Island. It's a short, steep dirt track from the carpark down to the beach. It is highly recommended to visit

Piękne miejsce tylko trzeba bardzo uważać na rekiny. Szczególnie jesienią i zimą kiedy podążają za łososiami. Przesmyk przy samej wyspie miejscowi nazywają Aleją Rekinów.
