What a great little restaurant. Friendly service, cosy and seriously good food. The Crispy Duck is deliciously tender, juicy and has a mild chilli bite and the Spicy Poached chicken leaves your mouth beautifully numb from the Sichuan pepper oil. Loved the Egg Custard Buns, too.

It was really pleasant experience, my mum and I enjoyed and loved the food. They serve a variety of dishes and the restaurant is well located. We also had some gelato from the shop across the street after lunch.

It was one of those Thursday’s where I had a dumpling itch that needed to be scratched. Mr. Rice hit the spot! I had a mixture of dumplings and dim sum - all were served piping hot and you could tell they were fresh based on the quality of the fillings. Friendly service and decently priced

Decent Chinese food in the heart of Darby street.
The menu is extensive however not every option is available at any one time.
There are a few standout dishes which I will keep coming back for as they are unlike any that I’ve had before; specifically the crispy duck. It’s sweet, savoy, crispy and tender all at the same time. It’s worth a visit to Mr, rice just to try it.

We came from Melbourne for the week & just had to come here because of the great reviews & it didn't disappoint. The crispy duck is amazing & even the spring rolls are the best & freshest I have ever tasted. Service was fast, warm & friendly. Highly recommended.

What a delightful restaurant! We walked along Darby street which is very nice, and found this restaurant looking so inviting. We ordered dumpling, sweet and sour pork, vegetable and Szechuan chicken. All of them were so nice and in particular we ordered Szechuan chicken by this lovely serving lady's recommendation and I am glad we did. I can confidently say that this was the best Szechuan chicken I have had a very long time. The serving was very helpful and engaging. She also told us that the dumplings we ordered were made by her own hands. And she learned from her mother which reminded me of my own family.
We live near Nelson bay, when we come back to Newcastle, we will visit again. Thank you

Nice little restaurant that could easily be walked past but so glad we didn’t! We had pork & chive dumplings, vege dumplings, fried vege noodles and black pepper beef, we demolished the lot! Very good food, will definitely return when we’re back that way

Exactly what we needed. Running late pre theatre called and were welcomed to come in. Checked the reviews and ordered a couple of recommended dishes. Eggplant and tofu, duck spring rolls and pork and garlic chive housemade dumplings. All extremely tasty, great friendly quick service on a Sat afternoon, able to be enjoyed with an Ashgrove Rose. Made the theatre on time . Thank you, we were recommended this as the best in Newcastle and we will be back and look forward to trying more tasty dishes.

Amazing Chinese cuisine! The special Sha pot makes the food much more flavor which let you want to try it again and again. If you like really spicy Chinese food, the restaurant definitely is the best place you should go. Recommend the hotpot rice noodle or with rice, the pickled chilli ,the stewed pork feet and deep fried pork ribs !, Everything is worth for trying. And they're also selling alcohol drink.

We ordered 3 dishes as we stopped in for a light bite to eat. They were all fabulous. The shredded duck was a stand out as the wrappers were home made. We had never been before and we'll definitely be back very soon. Thank you to the team.

It is rare to have such a delicious rice noodle in Newcastle. Mr.Rice provides us with a comfortable environment. The waiters are also very friendly, patient, and with good music, especially JJ Lin's songs. It is a pleasure. The food is also full of flavors and smells, offering different tastes for people with different tastes. It’s great.

Popped in for lunch @MrRiceDarby for some Szechuan cuisine which means spicy even if there isn't a chilli next to the menu item! There's an extensive al a carte menu and there's also lunch specials which I opted for.

Braised Beef and Bamboo with rice and soup - this is certainly spicy, flavoursome sauce, succulent beef, tender bamboo and rice to balance the heat and flavours. The sweetcorn soup is yum and the meal is very filling and excellent value.

Of course I can't leave without dessert and got the deep fried rice cakes in a molasses like deep brown syrup for takeaway. These are slightly crunchy on the outside, chewy in the middle a bit like mochi. The syrup adds just a touch of sweetness. Very tasty. Lovely warm inviting ambience and friendly service.

Can't speak highly enough of Mr Rice. I'm vegetarian, and the selection is excellent. We are regulars. Yan Bing and Pung Jun run a great menu and service.

The food was delicious! We had the deep fried pork belly and mr rice crispy eggplant and tofu with a fried rice. All of it was great but the eggplant and tofu was my favourite. It was crispy with a sweet glaze.

Mr Rice serves excellent Chinese Cuisine at fair prices. The inside of the store has a great atmosphere and the staff are very kind.

I recommend Mr Rice to anyone in the area, I'll definitely be returning there myself!

The best Asian cuisine we have had in Newcastle and wonderful quality of food and service! Great for families and couples.

The best we've experienced nice fresh handmade, we've seen them do the dumplings, great variety of dishes so delicious. Very affordable, also they have a good knowledge of the area and good advices on where to go and what to try. Highly recommended.

Food was great and friendly staff 😆 so give 5stars. Will be back eating again😋
