HANDS DOWN BEST OPAL SHOP OUT! We went to every shop in Lightning Ridge and honestly the only shop I'll ever return to is this one! I highly recommend going to this shop if your the Ridge. Best customer service, a range to suite all budgets, and honestly just the best experience, quality & company! Worth a visit for your opal shopping. Has high-end pieces, as well as smaller ones if you're just looking for a small souvenir.

This is the only place we've seen with rough-cut opals in town, which are an inexpensive way to have a gorgeous bit of opal.

Also has Indigenous artwork. Helpful staff. Ample street parking.

There are some amazing jewellery in this place. The service was very friendly and they were happy to show you everything and help you try on the jewellery. Great Dane and there is something for everyone.

Thank you Vicki for your patience as I was trying to choose my perfect opal ring. I don’t know how many I tried on and every ring was as beautiful as the next. As much as I loved the high end valued ring (you know which one) 😂 the one I chose is absolutely perfect 😍 Thanks also goes to Andrew for the sneaky little cut and polish of a rock my daughter found that had a little bit of colour. This shop is a must see when visiting Lightning Ridge.

Myself and my family visited Lightening Ridge and this place was simply amazing. Lou, one of the staff members was awesome. She spent so much time with us and talked about opals to the kids and explained what we should be looking for. The kids raved about it and even came in a few days later to show them the stones they had gathered. Totally awesome place.

Lovely store with a great selection to cater for various styles and budgets and great staff. Kristi was very patient with helping me to find a loose stone. I wasn't able to decide on the day and had to leave town but when the stone I was deliberating about continued to come to mind I knew I should buy it. Kristi assisted me with the remote purchase and postage and Fiona assisted with a slight recutting to suit the setting I had in mind. I have now had the stone set by a local jeweller and couldn't be happier with the result. Down to earth opals made it possible. Going to lightning ridge, learning about opal and the miners then coming away with a beautiful piece of jewelry to treasure forever is an amazing experience.

super friendly staff with a really gorgeous range of opals, and some super unique ones that you'd probably never get your hands on. seems quite authentic and also very nice and air conditioned, which is good since i spent a bit too long here waiting for my parents to decide which pieces of jewellery to get

After visiting all the opal shops in lightning ridge we returned for the third time and walked out with a gorgeous opal ring my husband got me for my 50th. The staff are all very friendly and very knowledgeable. Thank you so much

Spur of the moment decision to attend an opal cutting demonstration last Friday afternoon turned out to be the perfect introduction to opals and Lightning Ridge. The owner, Andrew was a fantastic and very funny educator, who also went above and beyond on Sunday morning to polish a few of my daughter’s pieces that she had found noodling. Lou and all the staff were so helpful and generous, and made my daughter’s trip! We would highly recommend you make this a key destination on your Lightning Ridge itinerary. The free demonstrations and talks run from April to October on Wednesdays and Fridays only - don’t miss out!

Visited today and spent the most amazing time with Andrew and Vicky.
Vicky looked at our little collection of Opal, fossicked around Lightening Ridge. Andrew then polished a few bits for us. He then offered to show Michael how to do the polishing.

The best shop in town. Has the least expensive & the most expensive, catering to everyone. They do a polishing demonstration every Wednesday & Friday 3 to 5 pm free, the best demo I has ever seen, a must see. I can really recommend this shop.

What a fantastic store. Not just a jewelry store but an opal experience 🤩 Brett spent SO much time with us sharing the process of cutting, polishing and carving the stones, it was so informative. Very friendly staff, not pushy, with beautiful opals for all budgets, and even welcoming to our toddler and pup! Don’t miss checking them out when you visit Lightning Ridge.

So many beautiful opals and opal jewellery including stunning carved opals that follow the nature shape of the opal. Amazing explanations from Lou about how the opals are formed, how they get their colour and how they are valued. We were even lucky enough for Brett to show us how he shapes and polishes the opals.
My 13 year old son said "I never thought a jewellery shop could be so much fun."

We had been to all the opal shops in Lightning Ridge and all we can say is don’t waste your time just go straight to Down to Earth Opals. The staff are truly amazing. Love this shop!!!!
