This is a great little attraction in Lightning Ridge. The whole place has a lovely, down to earth feel about it and it’s very informative at the same time. I liked it so much I bought an opal ring - there was no hard sell or hovering & the stone kind of spoke to me so I bought it 😊

What a fanastic experience. So much to see before you even get in the front door. Amazing a shop is there at the start rather than the end! Walk in mine a great experience with a lot of knowledge displayed. And you can fossick on your way out if your choose.

Very interesting and not too expensive to take a wander through a previously operational mine. Suggest watching the movie afterwards as it is very informative and they have lots of different types of opal in the shop, also some quirky photo opportunities. The people here are really friendly.

What a wonderful experience for families to understand the early years of opal mining. And the beauty of the opal. Great service experience and beautifully landscaped.

Once we signed our life away walking underground and seeing how they mine us incredible . The way they do this is hard and I commend them.

Super friendly country service. If you want to learn about opals and opal mining, definitely drop in.
Have a bit of a fun digging for your own opals as well. You may get lucky. I found a great little chunk. Or you can buy a bag to take home. Maybe a finished opal or jewellery.

The most exciting activity to do in lightning ridge by far, as it was probably the only thing open most of the day. The venue was decorated very fittingly and also served as a space for little animals and birds to rest and hang around. The amount of native birds ive managed to see here was amazing and they were all very vocal and pretty.

There were also many spots to take photos at, as if you were in a mine. The service here was great, and the man had provided us with a plethora of information about opals, how they make the jewellery and the type of opal jewellery, about the town, about this place as well as bits and pieces of his life. There were sales going in at the time fir jewellery and some of the opal pieces and he provided us with a further discount. There was also complimentary tea and biscuits.

The walk in mine itself was a very cool experienece as it was the exact same mine that miners in the past had used to discover opal. It recreated or at least tried to display the lengths miners went to digging and the methods they would use. There were a several information panels and a video to watch at the end that further expanded on the miners tale in lightning ridge.

100% a must visit if you ever come to this tiny suburb.

The walk in mine was awesome to see with helpful, polite and great staff willing answer any opal mining and prospecting questions with spectacular opals for sale on display. The walk in mine is a must see to become and understand opal mining. Great movies, reading information and a free coffee or tea for the small $20 great value fee. I showed my opals i found and they informed that I had 1 valuable specimen.

Great place to stop and have a look at a real underground opal mine. A cool 22 degrees in the mine (with no flies too) makes it a good place to cool down for awhile. I found 6 bits of potch in the mullock heap there. I was there one a quite day and the owner even let me take my dogs down with me. I don't know who was more fascinated me or them. They even had water there for pooches.

Very good experience. The owners are very friendly. It was a bit claustrophobic at first going down the mine but afterwards it felt ok. Nearly 30 steps down into the mine and very educational. I never knew the working conditions they had to endure. The general outside place has a nice little garden decor and you can observe some of the local avian wildlife. A must see. If you go with the local tour groups this place is included in the price and u can come back to it again without extra charge during your stay in Lightning ridge

This place is awesome! You can go underground and read/see/here all about the historical opal mining industry in Lightning Ridge. The place has a fab opal gift shop, gorgeous outlook you can enjoy with free coffee! And a pile of rocks to find potential opals!! Best place! Thank you!

Brad is super friendly and goes ot of his way to make you feel welcome. The self guided tour is great. For $20 you can take as long as you want to wander through the coolness of this disused mine, and gaze into the life of an opal miner. There's free tea or coffee to finish your adventure underground, or a fridge with cold drinks and an honesty box for payment.

After you've finished the underground tour, you can choose to purchase anything from the extensive selection of opal pieces in the shop, or you can hit the dirt outside and try your luck at some noodling for cast offs.

Excellent experience. I went as part of an afternoon tour by Outback Opal tours so Nat (great guide) explained it all. Good fun and recommended.
